Official FIFA 23 Thread

I'm tempted to pick this up now it's cheap. What's the general consensus this year compared to last?

Can get the game for like £17.

I really hope Mbappe drops in price when TOTY drops, he suits my team perfectly but I'm poor in coins and have terrible pack luck :D

I would say the gameplay is better than previous years on the whole, but all the usual FIFA caveats apply, it's frustrating, inconsistent, etc.

FUT content is pretty standard too.

Where would you guys invest 250k coins and on who? If that even gets me anyone worth spending it on, should I just wait for TOTY and prices to drop?

I’m thinking left back or centre mid replacing Thiago as he’s so slow. My left and right mids aren’t great but have awesome pace which for how often I go wide, works well

After years of PES I've finally converted to FIFA22 because it was on Gamepass.

I'll probably buy 23 when I can get it cheap. But is there a go to resource for learning the tips and tricks of FUT. All your talk about players and versions and upgrades go right over my head.

Is it just me or are "Managerial Masterpiece" games just ******* awful!?!?

I swear, no matter what team or formation I play the opposition just seem to be able to walk through every one of my players!

I'm not too bad on Rivals and even FUT Champions etc but this mode just makes it seem like all of my players are utter garbage - I must have played 20+ games trying to get the 84-rated Pukki and have barely won any!

I'd estimate that in around 90% of the games I've conceded a goal within the first 3 or 4 minutes - even if it's been my kick off!

There was a video posted further up with a deep dive on FUT. I suggest watching that

Is the FUT mobile app working for anyone?
I've just tried to log in and have got a message saying that "Early web and mobile access has expired"?!?!

Same for me, does this occasionally, you just need to log in on the console and usually fixes it.

I'm gutted I can't get my terrible rewards for rivals :(

There was on going maintenance, 2 lots of downtime with the second one running over by a few hours. Came back up at about 3-4pm UK

Any advice on the FUT Moments "Castle Wall" challenge? It's a very annoying combination of being very hard, obscure and seemingly luck based.
If you haven't seen it, you have to play for 6mins plus injury time without gaining possession (or conceding a goal effectively, since you are 1 goal ahead and need to win). This is a nightmare because it's very hard to avoid one of the following scenarios:
  • Opponent shoots at the goal and misses resulting in gaining possession via a goal kick
  • Opponent shoots at the goal and the keeper catches it
  • Opponent shoots at the goal and it goes in resulting in gaining possession via a kick off
  • Your player intercepts the ball by accident
  • Your clearance (which seem to be allowed most of the time if a one-touch header/volley) goes to a teammate
Now you might be saying "lol n00b why are you letting them get shots on your goal, git gud innit bruv" but because you aren't allowed to gain possession it's not that simple, like you tackle them and it's game over unless the ball immediately flies off away from your players.

I kind of figured it would make sense to field an all-bronze team because then the keeper should spill more shots and the outfield players should be worse at gaining possession, but it's still ultra hard to the extent it feels less like a challenge and more like some torture chamber lottery.

Given I never have time to complete all the objectives/milestones before they expire, my conclusion is it's probably a waste of my time given the rewards aren't huge (1 star plus 1 star for completing the group).

edit: May as well put some other thoughts here:
  • The 81+ Upgrade seems really good for generating low-mid tier SBC fodder, frequently has 83-84 rated players and I've had several higher. It's WAY better than the Gold Upgrade, I just chuck all my low rated Golds into it and you get 2 (decent rated) cards instead of 1.
  • I just started doing the Silver Friendly cup thingy (because I actually have a kind of OK silver team now that I've built out to do the EFL Championship Foundations milestone), and I feel like unlike most cups this is one you needed to be in on from the start, in order to earn the special silver cards that come as rewards which in turn makes you stronger for next time around. I feel like I'll perpetually be playing catchup, the only special card I have is Flashback Young and now the Centurion I just unlocked, but other players have like half a dozen specials they will have earned in prior iterations. This is more of a problem in a Silver tourney, it's not like the less resticted ones where it doesn't matter so much that they have played the game longer, because the overall player ratings go up over time meaning that the players they unlocked months ago probably aren't that overpowered any more compared with what I can pack today. With Silver, an elite 74 rated card is going to remain useful.
