Has anyone else encountered any very strange teams while trying the Trophy Titans Cup?

I went into it and saw the restrictions and fully expected to be playing absolute God-like teams but instead 3 of my 5 games this evening have been against teams ranging from mediocre (bang average all-gold teams) to downright poor (including silver and even bronze players)!?!?

Anyway, 5 out of 5 for me so I'm (hopefully) half-way to completing the objective!

I think some of it might be down to people not having that many good players rated 87 or lower, i.e. they've put them all in SBCs for higher rated players so they end up filling the spots with whatever random cards they have. Then because there is the Trophy upgrade SBC that needs all gold cards and associated objective to do 100 of the SBCs (plus recently 82+ player pick with 11x Gold Rares) they may not even have many Gold cards laying around. So they kick off with a bunch of naff cards and then sub on their normal players. What I'm tending to see is a mixed bag of mostly good card but then sometimes some filler Gold cards in the low 80s at GK or defence, I think it's just they've ditched all their keepers in the mid-high 80s already. Gold Lloris seems common, I reckon some players in this situation have literally just gone out and bought him to play in this cup, on the basis they can then just sell or use him as fodder when it's over, he's right on the 87 limit and has decent links, maybe the best of any 87 keeper (FR/ENG1).

Also there could be an element of people already having 10 wins so they don't need any more for the objective, so they might just be using it to play games to tick off some random Silver/Bronze objective if it's one that includes friendlies (friendlies are often over quicker than Squad Battles and doesn't impact on Rivals position).

The fact you are allowed to use 5 loan players means that like you I was expecting to face pretty good teams, personally I start with 96 Ronaldo, 98 Pele and 97 Zidane, with 98 Messi and 97 Benzema as subs as they don't fit in my formation (can't bring myself to use position modifier on a loan player).

One thing I noticed this weekend that happened a LOT was people quitting FUT Champs Finals games before it even kicked off?!? It's really annoying, because the game doesn't count as a win then but it still reduces contracts, including loans. So like I have 97 Zidane on loan, and I save my high rated loan players for the Finals, but it wastes a couple of his games just because the opponent quit before kickoff. I'm wondering if this is some thing where they quickly check my team and if it looks good they quit and it doesn't count as a loss if the game hasn't kicked off? i.e. they are just constantly quitting before kickoff until they face a weak team? EA really need to sort this out, if an opponent quitting doesn't count as a win, then it shouldn't reduce contracts IMO.

Bit of a problem scenario with my team / formation.
In terms of maximising rating/chem, the best formation for my players is 4-1-2-1-2. However, I tend to struggle in that formation and find my midfield just don't get involved enough in the game. Basically everything goes through the fullbacks and strikers most of the time.
If I use 4-2-3-1 instead, I tend to get better outcomes and the midfield is more involved. This however means I have a player on 2chem (Ozil) and have to play a 91 rated CAM instead of a 93 rated ST. Ozil does well for me generally despite the low chem, and I think Hummels is better than Vidic due to the pace (especially considering they are alongside Puyol who isn't rapid either). In the FUT Champs finals this weekend I started off playing matches with 4-1-2-1-2 but changed it for later games because I was really struggling.

Any tips on custom tactics to get the most of a 4-1-2-1-2 or should I just suck up the suboptimal ratings and stick with the formation that suits me better?
For comparison, the two teams are as follows, the differences in bold:

4-1-2-1-2:
GK: 93 Casillas
RB: 93 Carlos Alberto
LB: 92 Lahm
CB: 91 Puyol
CB: 90 Vidic
CDM: 92 Gattuso
CM: 93 Keane
CM: 92 Veron

CAM: 93 Bergkamp
ST: 93 Sanchez
ST: 95 Van Basten

4-2-3-1
GK: 93 Casillas
RB: 93 Carlos Alberto
LB: 92 Lahm
CB: 91 Puyol
CB: 90 Hummels
CDM: 92 Gattuso
CDM: 92 Alonso
CAM: 93 Ozil

CAM: 93 Bergkamp
CAM: 91 Muller
ST: 95 Van Basten

2 chem is fine m8 honestly. Stick to what suits your play style the best. Only thing i will say Puyol and vidic / puyol and hummels aint the best pace wise for top tier but don't know what division you are in and what depth you use. 4321 / 4231 / 4222, 442 are most common 4321 seems meta at the moment it works well for me along side 4231 and 4222 they are my go to. 4321 with the st lw rw set to stay central get in behind and your st on stay forward is a killer especially 70 mins on searching for a goal.

I play in div5. I'm aware the CBs are slow but don't have many better options, looking at the 88+ rated CBs I have, Hummels/Bonucci/Stones/Foyth/Umtiti/Smalling/Fernandez are all in the 82-86 range and most of the damage the team in terms of chem. I could maybe convert 88 Maldini to a CB, he as 87 pace and I quite liked using him before I got Lahm?

Yes 100% convert that maldini to CB hes very strong at CB good pace and stamina

What a disaster!
So I was playing Fut Champs a couple of days ago, won first 3 matches (actual wins not free wins), started thinking "OK, I can probably tick off the objective to win 5 FUT Champs matches without waiting for the finals" and was already planning ahead my squads to use in the finals - ENG1 squad, ITA1 squad etc.
....then lost the remaining 7 so didn't qualify. A couple of those games I should have won, blown leads or had someone quit at 0-0 because I was dominating. Fine margins between getting in the finals and dumped back to Rivals, but I guess ultimately I wasn't quite good enough to get the 4 wins this time.
This was annoying, but recoverable I thought. I started playing again Rivals yesterday and got to about 700pts, would then look to get qualified for playoffs this evening.
However, I think all that quali points progress has been lost overnight because the season has ended? So I'm facing many more games just to get in to the FUT Champs playoffs again :( It will take even longer because I've been relegated and get less points per win too.
It's absolutely essential I get in the FUT Champs Finals this week due to the objectives, I did see an announcement that they've shifted the timing slightly so it will end 48hrs later, so hopefully I can get qualified at some point over the weekend and then play the finals on Mon/Tue, but if I fail in the playoffs again it will be a long way back up that mountain.

The really annoying this is normally I would have played a couple of hours last night, but as I'd been drinking and feeling tired I just went to bed after the football. Had I known I was going to lose my progress, I'd have just ground out the qualification last night.

I guess I'm learning all the time how these mechanics works, stuff most veterans probably take for granted like when it's a bad time to open packs, what deadlines/transitions you need to be aware of etc.

Do you play on xb or ps? Try crossplay off if your struggling. Games are found a lot quicker with crossplay off on ps I don't do it often only when I've lost to a pc hacker I'll leave it off for a week

Xbox. I don't think I'm getting beaten by hackers, main reason is I'm not very good :)
I'd say it's probably something like:
~25% of players are way beyond my level, very good at using skill moves to cut through me, great timing on their passes and just seem to have incredible pace with and without the ball, pre-empt my tackles etc, keep me penned in my own half a lot and I'm relying on counter-attacks. I'll be 3 goals down in the first half against these guys. These are the sort of games I know within 15mins that I'm done for. I had that sinking feeling in teh final game of playoffs, I knew straight away I'd lose and stay on 3 wins, so frustrating having previously had someone quit at 0-0, I wouldn't have needed anything from the final match had I won that.
~20% of players are better than me by a smaller margin and sometimes have better players, I might score a few goals and win the odd game but lose most of the time
~35% of players are similar skill to me, these are the games that are the most enjoyable (6-5 or whatever), the outcome usually determined by how well each of us is playing in that given match and/or if there's lucky saves/rebounds etc
~20% of players are worse than me and often ragequit (some of them prematurely, I might be 2-0 up but if they played the full 90mins they'd find I'm not that good. One game recently I was 3-0 up and drew 6-6!).

Do you set up custom tactics and change formations within game? If you are getting pinned back on high press switch to 442 and play it wide with triggering those runs. If you use coop camera angle with full zoom out settings that can be beneficial as well. With skills moves tbh they don't tend to be a problem for me just jockey and don't dive into tackles. I'm a decent skiller myself but tbh the simple skill moves are often the ones that can be most effective i.e fake shot, ball roll, drag backs within the box are very effective or just tight close dribbling with R1 inside the box. Even when running down the wings let go of sprint tap L1 to slow down trigger sprint again gives you a boost. Easy skill moves like that can dominate. Well you could go a step up and fake drag back that rips at the moment again easy to do

I use custom tactics but 'never' change formation except going 4-2-4 if they are playing keepball in defence, it's more like if I'm losing I'll play with higher depth, more pressure and more players in the box.
I normally find at my level if I can get into the box I do OK with just a bit of patient passing to create the opportunity, cutbacks from the byline etc but I could definitely use fake shots more or tighter dribbling which is what good players do to me, just wriggling about back and forth until I overcommit and they get an opening to shoot. The bigger problem is versus these players that are a LOT better than me, just getting into the box is tough, I've had games with like 0.5 xG.

In better news I've just checked and I haven't actually lost my qualification points afterall, that's a relief!
Played 2 rivals games at lunchtime and the opponents were a lot worse than normal, although I somehow lost a game 11-6 despite both having the same number of shots and it being 3-3 at HT, no idea what Casillas is doing lately it's like he's falling over in a strait jacket with some shots that are just to the side of him, they literally scored from 4-5 attacks in a row despite being a bang average player with outdated cards like Smolarek. Other game I won 10-4, was 7-1 at HT so I brought Lampard off the bench as striker to try and get the goal and assist for the objective heh.

If you're chasing a game press on heavy touch is a good one with around 72 depth... If the opponent is using similar which most do, before passing the ball to your striker or a player out wide press R1 bring that player closer to the pass . A good move and it's simple in a wide formation against a high press player is with your RB or LB calling the winger closer with R1 to beat the high press, driven pass to his feet lay it off hold L1 pass to midfielder sends winger on run which has done his fullback now he got 2 options drag a CB over to cover the run in which case if he does through ball straight down middle. Easy little plays like that gets you out of div 5 and mopping up.

P.s you might already know this and by no means I'm a pro. You can tell me shut up haha

Thanks, I will try using RB I only really tell them to go long for through balls rather than coming short. I grew up playing FIFA in the 90s when the controls were very primitive so I'm gradually expanding my repertoire, the hard part I find is making use of the shoulder buttons and right stick intuitive rather than pre-meditated.

Some good seasonal objectives has got me playing a little again, I don't think I will get all that XP for the Rooney card though

Got my 83x15 pack instead of Caiceda...

Got TOTS Martinelli, TOTS Saka, and TOTS Ramsdale, as well as FUT Hero Cole. To say my jaw dropped is an understatement

I already had TOTS Saliba so my team has an uncomfortable number of Arsenal players in it now

I got a few 86's and most 84's, lucky me

I got TOTS Zinchenko - which to be fair I was quite pleased with!

I've had no PL TOTS at all, loads of them in opposing teams though. Power curve has definitely spiked this weekend, I only got 3 wins on FUT Champs qualifiers and don't think I've the energy to play another say 15+ Rivals then 10 qualifiers to try and get in the Finals. I got quite a few Community/Eredivisie TOTS but they aren't the same calibre really.
I'm not even getting much in the way of good fodder, got quite a few in the 84-87 range but I need 88 rated squads to complete a few icons. It doesn't help getting untradeable duplicates in the mid-80s because then I don't want to just quicksell them but it means I have to burn fodder on midrange SBCs.

One thing that annoys me a bit is Man United have 3 players rated 94+ yet Arsenal have none. I mean 94 Varane, seriously, what trees has he ripped up this season to deserve that?

Played the weekend league and my rewards have been very good I saved loads of packs for this promo to drop and I've done very well out of it! Done some SBCs and tbh the squad on ps is looking good now think it's on par with what I had on Xbox but haven't been on the Xbox in months after getting the ps5. But happy with how it is atm some grind misses is ****** off how much time I've played mind you but meh :)
