***Official Final Fantasy XIV Thead***

I really liked FFXI but the fact you were forced to group to level put me off massively to the point of quitting.

Some days I'd be LFG for up to 4 hours and not get a group, then to finally get a group and have it fall apart after only a few pulls, was pretty demoralising to be honest. I hope they made changes in FFXIV.

well with the armoury system in 14 it seems that you'll be able to change character class out in the field, even in the midst of battle. equip a sword and you'll become a warrior, staff and you'll become mage etc

interesting to see how they implement that

If they could match the class system from either FFV, or if needed FFX-2 then I'd be very happy. I loved both of those systems, the ability to change your character to suit what you were going up against. Also meant you could be careful, leveling a couple of classes per character so that you had a team that could take on anything.

I hope they made changes in FFXIV.

yeah now with the guildleve questing system you can gain levels through solo work. 30-40 minute quests
i hope they have the balance right - the ability to solo but most endgame stuff being intense HNM/sky/dynamis style multi-party fights

if you choose to be a crafter apparently you can reach endgame without partying/killing mobs at all so they say...

Good!

I know it's silly being a massively multiplayer game, but I'm more of a solo player. I don't really like grouping and prefer to just go at my own pace so I can read quest information and take in the game. So if this game will be solo-friendly then I'm very happy with that.

I love grouping in MMO's just in FFXI you basically grouped or had no way to advance your character, solo play stopped at about level 10 and the first group level up zone was pretty unforgiving.

i know its early days but do any of you fancy enlisting in the same server and joining an UK/EU linkshell when the game is released?

theres a few UK guys on the ffxivcore forums that want to team up too

Yup sign me up ;)

My first char will probably be Elvaan (or whatever FFXIV calls them) and fighter based. I hope there is a technical based fighter (like Samurai) because I loved to specialize and learn all of the skill-chains depending on the party members and the situation.

Second char will probably be a red-mage type.

So is it true the servers are all in Japan?
Well I believe FFXI's where all based in Japan, however I can't remember having any problems at all playing FFXI. That includes the different stages I played the game: the JP import, then the US import, and finally the EU version.

I was a huge fan of ff11 (and all ff's) and truly can't wait til this comes out. Not that I touch mmo's with a barge pole anymore, this might just be an exception :D

yeah tef all servers are in japan. wonder what that'll mean for us lag wise...
i honestly dont remember ffxi being that bad except when some mobs popped the japanese would have the advantage in claiming them because of the ping difference. I wasnt even on 1mb back then

but id rather have it that way and have all servers international than have a server just for each continent. i think most ffxi players would agree the community was something special and i think playing with JP/EU/NA rest of world players was a big factor to that.

i will probably go support character on my main. most likely mage, but im gonna focus on crafting a lot. its good that its not the race now that counts towards stat bonuses but the subrace... so the roegadyn (galka) can be mages and the lalafell (taru) can be good DD.

UK/EU linkshell 'Knights Of The Round' is up and taking applications.

It's gonna be a friendly, social linkshell. And being a large GMT +0 shell, i'm sure at a time there will be an endgame shell born out of it. And hopefully a good number of the shell will have access to beta!

looking forward to news of beta, i reckon late feb/early march will be the first round of closed beta.

I think I am getting too excited about this, especially as it will probably not be out until Autumn. Still I live in hope that I get into the beta.

MidnightLamp, I have just applied to your linkshell. I am also a member of the core forums (I should be easy to spot as I have the same username) but typically I has to use a different one to join the linkshell.

Really looking forward to this. WoW has been the only MMO I've cared for since L2 and now looks terribly dated. Let's hope they nail it - this setting has great potential.

It's strange, though, how the stunningly handsome guy in the trailers appears to be the protagonist even though this is an MMO. It'll be interesting to find out who he is.

great stuff andrew, welcome to the shell. i too am waiting for that beta email.... i reckon sometime in feb they'll release the first wave of beta.
