***** Official Football Manager 13 Thread *****

Well have worked out a fun challenge for new FM (after a long car journey back from football yesterday).

This season we are making Baulkland alter-egos and trying to win lots of tiny leagues in the former Yugoslavia, then take our power across Europe! (in some sort of weird eastern european domination). Should be fun as England isn't fun till later in the game...

Oh and they ****ing better sort out the cross it at the keeper = goal bug, nauseating how much it happens with little or no balance or keeper interaction.

What? I'm up for any challenge.

Can't seem to find motivation to start a proper game knowing I won't continue it on the full game. I need my 'no scouting needed' option, and many nations available.

Basically we are making our manager names into made up relatives of mad people to do with the history of Yugoslavia then taking teams like Red Star Belgrade as far as we can go, though I am modding it a little to take smaller teams far.

General aim is to be the king of Yugoslavia and win all the in game leagues in the area before we can go to clubs we like/leagues that are fun later in the game. This means a league win in Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia to start with, but after winning those got to near by (and just as small) leagues of Belarus, Bulgaria, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia and Romania (without picking the big teams there).

That covers most of the leagues we haven't bothered to play in FM before and should be a decent kicking off point to getting a decent set of regens in the rest of the game. Plus it'll be fun trying to get any of these teams challenging in the champions league (though a one attempt only at that probably should be in force to stop us getting horribly addicted to a team in the middle of nowhere).

It seems like a fun attempt at something a little different and a good way to get though a bulk of seasons to get the mls playable (I really want to do the mls in the future where more current players can end up as washed up stars as there aren't enough at the start of this one).

I understand. Sound good, but not fun. I feel I will get bored after a few seasons :P Still no idea which challenge I will do.

Lol yeah I think the same thing will happen to us really, alter-egos of Radovan Petrovic will start applying for jobs in leagues I enjoy after a couple of infuriating seasons with the likes of NK Inter Zaprešić and FK Donji Srem...

I am liking the idea of winning the different champions leagues but it does seem quite time consuming if you try to do it from teams/leagues that aren't dominant forces already.

Yeah, tried everything.

Decided I will go with Truro City in the Blue Square South. They are in admission, with a transfer embargo, and not enough players to fill the substitute bench. Predicted 22nd obviously. This should be fun :D:D

 good luck! :p real life isn't going well for them...

This! School :(

Could do what a mate of mine did, he spent somewhere close to 6 years of secondary school (that he lived round the corner from) running home every lunch and just hammering FM/champ manager.

Got bad in 6th form where he was in about 30% less so just wasn't there, instead he was home, in the dark eating cold dominos.

Glorious way to live the teen years!

How many leagues are people going to play with? I'm tempted to load them all

@Azza, my update on my Macbook Pro was 1.6GB but same as you on my PC. Although I didn't update to the 'new' patch on my Macbook Pro :)

I did it with all leagues in Europe plus Mexico, MLS, Brazil and Argentina.

Regretted that as it's dog slow and I didn't think of a good name for my Serbian alter-ego last night so I am going to start that again later on.

I'm feeling;

  • Belgium
  • Croatia
  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark
  • England
  • France
  • Germany
  • Holland
  • Italy
  • Poland
  • Portugal
  • Russia
  • Serbia
  • Spain
  • Argentina
  • Brasil
  • Mexico
  • MLS
  • Ireland
  • Northern Ireland

You need Scotland on that list :p

Especially if you have the Republic and NI which are horrific leagues to play in (after dominating the republics league and shouting a lot at NI 2nd division you won't put them on again...)

Plus play Belgium division 2! That was strangely fun

So I'm assuming by the fact you aren't answering my question that there is no multiplayer/community features? :D

Im more than happy to buy btw.

There are some new multiplayer modes, you can now take your fm teams head to head online and other stuff. It's all in this video from page 1/2

:)

They update the engine every other year, so last year was just an improvement of they year before and this year is the rewrite like 11 was.

Not really enjoying this one yet, can't seem to get a game where I am excited about my team.

Doesnt matter how good your tactics are the scores are just random. Played my first game this morning lost 5-0 to the bummies, thought id reload and play again, i didnt change anything but i won 5-0... ME is broken.

Not really, the deal with the match engine (and has been for the last few) is that each time you load it is a completely new event, regardless of what you change. So if you reload a save and replay the game the AI can (and in all probability will) do something different even if you don't.

It's not broken as such, just different from how it used to be as it used to auto save before a game to stop you rage quitting a game and replaying it. At least it's not like civ where you can set the "reserve random seed" option that forces the game down one set path regardless of reloads, i.e. events (and in FM's case results) are almost predetermined.

The only thing I think that's broken in the match engine is penalties that are awarded in game, far too many nothing penalties are given and more often than not the "on a hat trick" rule overrides the designated penalty taker, which is stupid when they end up missing 2 in a game

Even then it's not a proper break, just an annoying oddity that a player screaming I'm on for a hat trick overrides the we need to score this to win.

Finally got the double hattrick, from Matthew Patterson on loan from Burton at Bishops Stortford!

The video is needed because our 2nd and their second was just stupid defending that needs laughing at.

Bottom end leagues in England are pretty easy if you know what you are doing. I'm top of the BSN with Bishops Stortford and have just bought Matthew Patterson for 5k :D

It's mostly down to having a decent selection of players that can just play the position you need from them in the formation they are all good at.

I am getting achievements though, not sure why you aren't.

Yay Pentagon Challenge :D
