***** Official Football Manager 13 Thread *****

There's a couple of decent strikers for within that amount, but I'm about 3 months in and have missed out on both of these two: Leonard Kweuke and Nicklas Helenius

I'd hit 11pm last night, and was thinking about calling it a night when Mr. Chairman whacks £6.75m into the transfer budget!? Twice what my initial budget was, and I think I'm actually outside of the play-offs at the moment. Crazy! My reserve was severely tested but I played the adult and went to bed - despite currently remortgaging and having a tough time at work, the decision to go to bed or spend a good 3 hours spending that transfer budget was the most difficult decision I've made so far this week! haha :)

You massively have the FM bug, but just about have it under control... For now :p

My Bishops Sortford save went nuts, I spent everything possible getting Matthew Patterson in for 5K, its been worth it. Just have to play through the second half of the season and maybe win the FA trophy and should be able to afford the BSP!

Couple of things - what's the difference between a regen and a newgen? And also has anyone had the bug of sponsorship money not working properly? One of the teams I subscribe to has had a record sponsorship deal signed for £1...

Regen = old name for new players (originally a real player retired and their stats were just given to a kid)

Newgen = the newly generated players in modern fm.

They mean pretty much the same thing now as regen = newgen in modern fm, just historic different names for the different ways new players came in :)

Haven't seen the sponsorship one yet, though I haven't played enough to see it come up

Only think I have found is transfer deadline day takes AGES to process if you are not involved (aka non-league)

Right, so if Giggs retires one year his attributes (actual attributes plus CA and PA get given to a kid with a new name - or just is PA?). I must have been playing this game blind to have completely missed all of this :D

After leaving Blackpool in 15th (they finished 21st! but are now 3rd) I was offered jobs by just-relegated Barnet, Bishops Stortford, Welling, Woking and Northampton, but I knew I had some League One in me and was finally given the job by Notts. Co. Bit annoyed I missed the close season, but I always feel the game gets good after the first season finishes. Got in to work and realised I felt my laptop lead at the girlfriends... no FM for a few days :(

edit - also, how do you know if they're regens or newgens, or is it obvious/playing by memory?

Lol didn't explain that quite right, old FM (pre 07 I think) new players were regens, so Giggs was reborn as some 16 year old.

Modern FM doesn't do that (mostly because it's lazy) so you only get newgens, but because its been ages both names are now used for the newly generated players (takes a lot for people to let go of something like that).

How did you break Blackpool? Thought you had everything?!?!

Notts co. should be good though, decent squad this season that should do alright in L1, no idea on the money from though. I'm still Bishops Stortford in the semifinal of the FA Vase :D (need to win it really as I have never bothered before, like the jpt)

Ah right, I see. Got it now. Blackpool I'd signed the three minimum fee release players (Doria, Adryan and Wellington Nem) as well as Ince and Matty Phillips and I was being dominated.

The Notts. Co. route seems just as tricky - most of the decent players have gone and their previous manager was blown the wage budget on some awful players.

B Stortford in the BS Prem?

Ah shame, looks like you made them into an attacking force with a paper thin back line...

Pretty much all teams in FM after a few years end up like that, squads full of odd dross with there being a real lack of amazing AI managers not to break decent squads. Fun challenge trying to fix other people's messes, last year had to unbreak Everton that got Redknapped for about 4 seasons (took 3 seasons to build a decent core and turn that mess around).

B Stortford start in the BS North so if they are in the BS Prem now it could be worth building with.

Didn't they use to ask for names and pictures of people wanting to be in the game to become the regens?

Haha probably! Sounds a hilarious feature, would love to suddenly been the new Shearer by random accident.

Sensible question here, can coaches fail their coaching qualifications??? I signed Edgar Davids to my backroom staff at Bishops Stortford in the second season and the little "he's doing a coaching qualification" leaves it ambiguous if he'll pass...

Thought it would be funny to fire him if he fails :D

I've had some bloke report back twice saying "he's not doing very well and needs more time to take the exams"

anyone had the tax issue come up or have they fixed this?

Ahahaha! That's not going to be good if half my staff fail the 1.5k exams! (need that money)

What's the tax issue? Haven't seem many stupid problems so far...

Sheffield Wednesday are ****ing terrible on FM13, if anyone wants an almost certainly doomed job have a go.

I'm going to give them a go this weekend as I have Sunday free :)

:( they got relegated after a season on my save, then again so did saints which was just sad (saw almost the whole team ripped apart over the summer and ruined by dave jones, then mcinns).

Hoping saints get relegated again, making them a better prospect to manage in a few more seasons!

In Bishops Stortford news we are 4th in the BSP couple of points off top and the best team left in the fa trophy :D (after loosing out in the semi final the previous season). It's on my list of cups I have never bothered to win with the jpt. Think it'll be ours after a mad fa cup run that got us to Leeds away in the 3rd round (then thrashed).

Well iv done it! Bishops Stortford won the BSP :D

And the Fa Trophy!! :D

Nail biting couple of weeks towards the end of the season where I didn't think it would come off...

On the plus the board are going to build me a new stadium!

^^ niceeee! That's pretty impressive.

Turns out the jump from BSP to L2 is HUGE and I am struggling to get players in, especially when I have 7k per week to play with :(

It turns out the team meeting feature has more influence over player form than I thought it did.

Had to run a test with playing the same fixture twice in a week (Plymouth away in l2 followed by it in the fa cup 2nd round). My results showed that putting out pretty much any combination of the team lost the second game if I didn't talk to them a few days before about how well they are playing. Do a team meeting though and I won every time (after beating them in the league game)

Sounds like an odd conditional moment to test things out but it was really bugging me how the game wanted me to manage the situation (and one of those things I have to know without finding out/reloading like a boss moments).

So yeah, come across a stupid fixture, hold a team meeting to improve player performances in the hidden moral section. Thought everyone sort of needed to know what FM13 wants from you some times in these sort of moments so you on't end up shouting at it a lot.

^^ Ah go on where are you now?!?! :p

Make sure you get 4 GOOD season long loans, with no cash towards his wages, there's many. It's the most important thing to do at that level, unless you spend a lot of time finding a diamond in the rough.

Yep! You can have 5 long term loans, 4 under 23 and one over 23 (works out something like that) so I managed to secure some decent midfielders this time to pack it out with a 4-3-3 sort of formation.

Worked a treat up until christmas, was 3rd as a high but now back down to 8th (just out side playoffs) but its 3 points difference back to 3rd which gives me hope.

Mathew Patterson is my top goalscorer so far (again) with 29 in all competitions! Have another ex saint of Lee Barnard as player coach for cover.

Either way L2 is mad, next season I should get over double the money with my bigger stadium which will be nice, just need another massive FA cup run. This year it ended in the 3rd round (again) away to Arsenal who beat us 5-1 :( nothing much you can do in those sorts of games but the money is very very useful.

- I rarely see bad passes or interceptions, especially with lower leagues. Sometimes the passing is way too fluid.
- A large number of goals scored when a player dribbles to the goal line in the area, and then dribbles towards the goal and scores at the near post. My striker has had about 10 goals this way.

My experience of the last two is for a while I have gotten to see lovely football but the way highlights are generated this year means you tend to see less rubbish interceptions. So I have seen games that only have 2/3 highlights in lower leagues because it is all rubbish. You do get probably a little to much nice fluid football in the lower leagues but it tends to be the thing you just see more of.

The dibble and smash it in at the near post just reflects the poor quality of keepers in lower leagues :p (should watch Kelvin Davis in real life more as this is the goal he concedes on a regular basis)

Soooo........

:eek::D:cool::D:cool::D:D:D:D:D

Nail biting last 4 games with 2 wins and 2 losses, sealed it with a 2-1 home win against Plymouth and Gillingham loosing it on the last day.

Probably didn't deserve promotion as I lost to a few teams around me but put in the performances against the dross in the league.

L1 is going to be hell, most of my team need replacing again and I think it will be a step too far considering my lack of players and staff...

I went on to apply to a few big teams, because there were literally NO VACANT PLACES in non-European teams.

Seems to be the running theme of this one, takes a lot to get a job at a top club this time. Haven't even been considered for another post in 3 seasons at Bishops Stortford...

Cheers! :D Dreading L1, going to risk the clubs future on a Wales u19's striker who has destroyed the BSP for 2 seasons (let down by Hereford being rubbish) though 500k is a huge amount...

12 eventually I got linked with good jobs after a few good runs and things (jumped from Burton in L1 to Blackburn in the champ then to Everton before in less than 3 full seasons), but this one not a sausage yet.

I see in game managers getting jobs more by leaving their posts and getting sacked, then applying for places without having to pay compensation, seems to be the new model now sadly.

^^ Team reputation kills this, you pretty much have to suffer BSP with some utter dross in the squad. Then loan some talent and hope for the best with some BSP standard signings.

Basically Borehamwood haven't played in high leagues ever (or for a very long time) so they are an unknown. Did you get anywhere with the FA cup or trophy? Those help your reputation a lot for getting more players in.

Also getting foreign staff helps in finding more free players...

The standard between the majority of the teams between the BSP and BSS/BSN isn't that different, apart from the old league teams that are relegated into it, so hanging onto some of the core of your BSS team isn't too bad an option.

Make sure you target a good set of cup runs and survival next season and that opens up the doors to better players coming in eventually.

Got Bebe to Bishops Stortford in L1 :D

I got Crewe into the Prem in 2 seasons, as I landed in the Championship I got an offer from Hearts and QPR...

Oooo! There is hope!

Sorry forgot too scroll up and double check :(

Humm that is odd, what sort of squad status are you offering? And is there a lot of competition for the places they want?

Would have gone for option 3 :p

I think I have broken Bishops Stortford. 25k per week in L1 isn't enough to put a squad together, look class going forward, BEBE and that regen 17 year old should be class along with a well stocked midfield. Only managed to get 1 cb in and a back up lb...

Going to be leaking goals past Jesse Joronen :(
