maybe the multiplayer system will give more control to the community, server bans, warnings etc, or maybe even some tracker number of deliberate incidents caused leading to a global ban from any "secured"/league/whatever race server.

Or they take the cheap route out and have a server option for no collisions :(

rfactor online worked well, they should take a note from them.Just think they should stop away from the grid style games and keep it a true simulator, but then again its all about the money these days.£££:(

well they have talked a good game and it looks pretty good, cannot wait !

This is a very similar marketing campaign as they had with OF : DR, and look how that massive pile of guano turned out.

Id love a good F1 game, but im worried that Codemasters are gonna fudge it like most of their tripe they've released over the last few years....fingers crossed

What's the legendary Geoff Crammond doing these days as this looks great and I haven't played a F1 game since the Microprose days.

Geoff Crammond took his GP source code from Microprose (infogrammes) and was meant to be working on Stunt Car Racer 2, however he’s pretty much missing in action and no one has heard from him since Grand Prix 4 was released way back in 2001.

Incidentally – Grand Prix 4 with the 2007 modpack and updated high res car textures and new tracks etc is about as good as a full F1 game you’ll get at the moment. A game released back in 2001 modded to the 2007 season can still own any other Formula one game released today.

Grand Prix 4 has never been removed from my PC since I purchased it, and it still runs on Windows 7 64bit and provides me with my F1 fix like it has done for so many years…

I’m really hoping this’ll be over with codemasters F1 2010, however I’m remaining sceptical.

I’ve been an avid Formula one gamer since the days of Amiga Microprose F1GP and played Geoff Crammonds F1GP2, F1GP3 every year until F1GP4 came along and since then had to rely on community mods to keep the game up to date.

We’ll see.

Do you visit gpg?

Yes, I tend to pop my head over to Grandprix Games from time to time, good place to read up about latest mods and updates to GP4, with exception to Gran Tourismo on the Playstation , GP4 is about the only game I’ve put some serious hours into.

GP4 has, and will always be the pinnacle of game design and sheer all out pure real as it gets for me at least, Formula one racing. Its amazing after all this time the game is so actively updated.

I’m currently racing a whole championship as Lewis Hamilton, the game is, once modded with the 2006 /2007 modpack very close to the real season, and I can hear Alonso gritting his teeth each time I out qualify or beat him on the track.. lol

Graphically, GP4 is starting to show its age, still looks good with the texture mods etc. Codemasters might have got GP4 licked in this arena, but its gameplay that matters…

To be honest, I’ve just read the Geoff Crammond article and my hopes for GP5 aren’t totally dead, it’d be fantastic to see ‘sir Geoff’ at work creating a whole new Grand Prix game. The legacy of his work is amazing, Grand Prix 5 would be amazing, but I’m somehow doubtful it’ll ever be released.

I’m concerned codemasters aren’t releasing a Demo of their F1 efforts. I’ve got a pre-order in for the game, but I’m somehow thinking this’ll be dirt or Grid openwheel – not that this’ll be bad, sure it’ll be blast to play, but GP4 is still as real as it gets f1 racing, doubt codemasters will topple that..

I can't tell you how many hours i've poured into that game, but i can tell you that every pc upgrade i've done in the last 8 years, has had GP4 in mind.

I love that game and just wish GP5 would come out some time.

Are you you using gpxpatch?

You need to make sure you're running the gp4.exe and gpxpatch in compatability mode, windows xp service pack 2.

If you're gonna do a fresh install, make sure you patch to 9.6, then add all the little utilities.

If you need help, just give me a shout or visit the site.

@iv-techman

Here is an unedited pic of a filter i made, tried to give it a Gran Turismo / Top Gear vignette style

There is a W.I.P plugin for GP4, it uses the ENB series to add motion blur, ambient occlusion and bloom to the game.

It's still rough but needs a lot of tweaking.

Grand Prix 4 isn't fully compatible with windows 7 but as mentioned if you fresh install and then patch to 9.6 and run GPxPatch - latest version, google search for it then you should be able to set the GP4.exe to either windows 98 or XP comp mode.

ravl585 - See you've also started to update your F1GP4 to the 2010 season, or at least got a version running some of the 2010 mods etc.... I considered it, however still running with the 2006/2007 modpack at the moment.

Still find it amazing that the game is so actively updated, proves just how fantastic the game engine really is.

I wonder if codemasters F1 2010 will be so fondly remembered in 8 years time?

GP4 is still for sale, I'm sure you can buy it somewhere. Tried ebay maybe? I've still got the box and manual for mine.... Collectors item soon..:D

Are you using CSM, or upgrade your game manually?

I'm old school, so i like to mess around with the wads themselves :)

There is a performance file set from 2001-2010, when i've got time i'm going to create seperate installations for all those seasons.

I've already got 2005-2010, just need to fine tune them, get the perf files and set everything in tweaker.

You already probably know this, but the sounds in GP4 have never been great, but coming soon are some really great sounds, someone has finally managed to figure out the how to properly configure the sounds.

I doubt F1 2010 will be as loved as GP4, as codemaster games are really hard to mod, and that's what keeps these games alive.

iv-tecman are you talking about the GP4Italia and Tony mod ? because that's the one i run with.

If not point me in the direction please :D

I’m using CSM with GP4Italia and Tony mod – its easier to install and get up and running.

I was interested in the 2010 season however I’m really holding out hoping a full CSM package or something is going to be released, as for GP4 sounds – yeah they aren’t all that good. Gpxpatch introduced some 3D engine sounds.

The ENB mod is good btw, however I find the motion blur to intense and it also blurs the timings means I can’t read them if I’m belting it down a straight. ENB does give however make the games lighting just pop a bit more.

I wouldn’t think codemasters would be happy to allow their F1 game to be modded, I think they’ll milk the license, and we’ll see for the next few years F1 2010, 2011, 2012 – much like the Fifa EA sports series. Change the livery and tracks each year and charge full price for a new game….
