PC version all the way.

Without a doubt. There is no way I would play a racing game on a console. Console is for footy and a few platform games...

I downloaded GRID for the PS3 to compare it to my PC.... well there is nothing to compare, one is absolutely excellent, the other...meh!!

Think I will upgrade to a 30 inch monitor for this game, get an ergotron wall mount and have that bad boy 3 inches from my face... get the ambx lights on in the background and Im away... I dont think I'll go the whole hog and get a stig outfit and helmet yet, but who knows :p

Just get the T-shirt, "I'm the Stigs fat cousin" is hilarious. :D

So what's the main difference then from a racing game on the PC from a console. Does the 360 controller work perfectly with racing games on the PC or is there some jiggery pokery you need to do to get it to work. I imagine the graphics are far beyond a console ?.

Give the DiRT 2 demo a go, should be a fairly good benchmark for F1 2010 performance.

Oh well thats good to know, as I've got DiRT 2 and that runs on my i5 540M 5650 1GB 4GB laptop at 1600 x 900 with ultra details, v sync on at average 45fps.

PC version should be fine then. Means I can run it on my laptop and enjoy some large screen (42" plasma) F1 racing....

Actually, should work out nicely, nearing the end of my Grand Prix 4 2007 season - driving as Hamilton my results so far have been solid, so by the time I wrap up the 2007 championship I can get on and battle it out for 2010.

Question, do you select an existing driver, and race under their name, ie as Lewis Hamilton, or when you sign in, like say DiRT 2 will it use this, which team member gets dumped in favour of you? If you understand...

McLaren has two drivers, Hamilton and Button, if you decide to race for McLaren, and it uses your name, say joe bloggs, who gets dropped? You can't have three in the team, meaning a real named driver has to go, or do you just select an existing driver, with the option to rename? Just wondering thats all...

lol - race as rubins and have a T Shirt saying - I BEAT THE STIG, or race as Jenson and wear a T Shirt that says - I DIDN'T BEAT THE STIG.. .lol

Grid on the PS3 had awful sceen tearing, lower res (720p) and slightly lower textures, or it looked a little more fuzzy - actually jaggy. AA isn't as good.

Gird on the PC at 1920 x 1080, 4 x AA and not locked to 30fps is miles better. Also, PC Grid as opposed to xbox360 has free online gaming.

PC racing is better. If only due to higher res, better AA support, no screen tearing as you can lock the v sync and can run quicker if you've got the kit..

As for control, well you can use a 360 pad, or use a PC wheel..

Dirt 2 on the PS3 suffers the same as Grid does, PC version just runs a little better, so I suspect if you've got the hardware the PC verison of F1 2010 will as well..

Remember, a games console has a much less powerful GPU then most gaming rigs, so even if you run the game at 720p, same res as the PS3 or xbox360, you can up the AA to something silly and it'll look well sweet, and no screen tearing... No locking the v sync on video games really irks me. Reason I hardly play my PS3, the triple buffer trick works to a degree, but locking the v sync to the screen refresh rate is the only way, and sometimes the PS3 just hasn't got the grunt to push the game along when locked...

Downloaded Dirt 2 demo, used the preset ultra for graphics setting and done a benchmark. Average 61 fps Minimum 44Fps. the game looks lovely, not a fan of rally games but this looks promising. And it recognises the 360 controller straight off the bat.

Xbox pad is plug and play pretty much. You wont even need to calibrate.

A lot of games (generally console ports) have the support perfect, as well as the buttons being iterated with the hud properly.

In career mode you play as yourself and not a pre-existing driver, same as the time trail mode and online.

Then there is Grand Prix mode, which closely follows that of Career; however, instead of playing as yourself you will be given the opportunity to race as your favourite driver. It allows you to play a single race, run a full season, or set up a mini-championship consisting of your favourite tracks whilst driving your favourite car.

When you select the team you want to start off your career at, you will take the place of the driver who has been calculated to be the 2nd driver in that particular team. If you switch teams during your career the game decides which driver needs to be bumped from your new team based on results of the 2 existing drivers in seasons gone by in the game.[/

Ooo so there is a career mode, but also a Grand Prix mode where you battle it out as your favourite driver.

Now, I’m intrigued. So in Career mode, you race as whatever name you give, join a team and whoever the game decides is no 2 driver, gets dumped from the team. Lol hmmm so Massa gets dumped each time then, so you race up against Alonso as your team mate – no way would he be no 2 – his eyebrows will never allow that, but erm Mclaren don’t have number 2 drivers.. lol I could replace Hamilton..!!

I quite fancy both modes to be honest, so in Grand Prix mode, you replicate the current season and race 19 races, once you’ve raced the last race, that it is, game over. You’ve either won the championship or not, so try again.

Career mode, you select either 3, 5 or 7 years and if you select a midfielder team, such as Renault or even sauber, you take a seat in that team, and drive the first year after which you’ll be offered a better drive if you’ve done well, or better yet been able to develop the car, and drive the second year with hopefully a win or more..!! By the last year if racing 7 years you’ll be champ and got a mid team up to champs as well? Or if racing with Mclaren from the off, been champ 7 times…!! lol

Is this right?

Sounds like this game has some serious longevity.. I’m really looking forward to getting this, if you’ve got the handling and physics as good as Grand Prix4 then I’m going to be hooked on this.

I’m going to get the PC version, if its no good, then I’ll get the xbox360 version as well, but I think my PC or very least my Laptop can run this… 24th September can’t get here quick enough. I’m booking a day off work.

Thanks rotter023 - BTW, thats an awful name for a product publicity manager. lol

Yep, you've pretty much nailed it. In career mode you can build up one of the lower teams if you are good enough to be championship contenders or move up through the teams if you are that way inclined. Your choice :)

Yeah, I would like to change it but I don't know if that's possible on these boards? I only decided to keep it as I had a few posts on it, plus I didn't think I'd post as much CM related stuff answering questions etc as I have been on these forums.

just watched part one of the youtube video. It was in the wet and it looks lovely. They really have put work into the wet racing. And the driver was half throttle on the exits of corners too. Looks great :) just a tad less bloom for me.

Totally agree the bloom effect with Dirt was a huge turn off for me and if this has the same with no turn off mode I will not be buying for sure I dislike the effect so much.
