Hey guys ,

Being a big F1 fan for many years I really can't wait. I just cant decided between the PS3 version (hooked up to a 40" Bravia) or the PC version(already on pre-order with amazon)

Could someone please answer a few questions:

1.Does the retail PC version require steam to be played (I hate when retail titles are locked to steam) or will it just be a disc check and work like many other retail games.

2.Will the PC version support Anti-aliasing and higher frame rates or is it a crappy console port?

Thanks all

1. Not sure.

2. Yes and the frames aren't capped like on the consoles.

not great reading for GTX260 users. 33fps at 1680x1050 in DX9. And that's on a 4GHz i7 as well!!

Retail version will be tied to GFWL, not Steam but its a game you can add to steam manually it just doesn't need to be registered with Steam to play.

PC version supports uncapped fps and AA etc.. Only consoles are locked to 30fps.

The PS3 version works with PC Steering wheels for information, I'm getting the PS3 version for some large screen 42" f1 gaming, but I've got a steam pre-load now completed..... So I'm all set, and I'm going to have some fun with this one...

That better not be true. Framerates seem pretty low though even on a GTX 480 /ATI 5870 . You would expect more at 1680x1050 in DX9 surely

hmm, most keen pc users will be looking to play at 1920x1080+ with some AA so it suggests that some sacrifices may be necessary on all but uber rigs.

How do you mean "exclusion"? They are providing DX11 via a patch and on the link above, the body work looks more shiny in DX11 mode though whether there will be a performance hit or not is not shown. DX9 looks a bit more blurry and flat but DX11 looks more pixellated and shiny. Which is best I'm not sure.

Lots of cars, detailed scenery, advanced weahter effects...maybe not? Might explain the exclusion of DX11.

True. It looks good but not THAT good. For a console game to only eek out 60fps at 1680x1050 on the fastest single GPU you can buy is not good in my opinion.

We think there will be a patch. But none of the devs have confirmed anything about the status of DX11 - not that I know of anyway. Was a long unanswered thread on the official forums about it.

bear in mind it suggests that consoles will be running at a capped 30fps presumably at 1280x720 with no AA and with lower detail textures and a reduced draw distance.........

If it's a constant 40+ with everything on high or ultra at 1920, I'll be happy. Thing is racing games tend to need quite a bit of AA and AF to look good and that may hammer performance

Agreed, seems the additonal cars on track, extra weather etc took its toll and looking at the charts provided you'll need a rather decent rig to max this one out.

It'll still be excellent on even a 5770 with a Q6600 etc... just might need to drop the res a tad and maybe reduce AA, which isn't uncommon for most PC gamers. We've all been there, and doubt this'll be another Metro 2033, now that was a system killer.

If anyone is concerned about their rigs not running this, just buy the console version lol
