This is about as good Formula 1 game as we are ever going to get in the mainstream category (and that's the important part, this IS a mainstream game that is expected to sell millions). The driving model is somewhat forgiving but it's nowhere near the level of Dirt 2 or Grid. It's closer to iRacing than those two. That's not to say it's hard or at iRacing level, no, it's really quite easy to drive and more often than not you know when you are about to make a mistake. It's predictable as it should be, not random. One hour into the game I can clock pretty reliable laps improving my time tenth by tenth once I get used to the track. I already know my limits in quite a few tricky corners and I know if I push even a bit harder, I will end up with wheels on the grass or sand. I can honestly say that my GP4 days are over and F1 2010 is my new game of choice for offline F1 racing. (Although.. I do have to go back to GP4 at some point to drive those sweet cars from 1991 again. But F1 2010 for modern F1 racing anyway

Graphics are fantastic at least to me and my "iRacing is good enough" standards. For the hour or so I tested the game I had my graphics set to high, 1920x1200 but no AA and the fps hovered between 50 and 60. Solid at 60 most of the time. I didn't try wet races though. Tomorrow I'll try the ultra settings with 4x AA. Q9550@4GHz, non-overclocked ATI 5850.
They have also somehow managed to make it so that you can actually compete with the AI drivers. In iRacing, with my driving skills, if I try to compete with someone too much or too hard one of us ends up spinning or crashing at some point. It might take a lap or five laps but something bad will eventually happen. In F1 2010 you can lightly touch the opponent cars and really feel your opponent pushing hard ahead of you as well as behind you. You might think you have passed an opponent by braking late and using the whole corner but lo and behold, the opponent actually took the inside line while you were braking late and has now passed you again on the straight that followed up. Small mistakes you can correct but bigger mistakes will inevitably lead into spinning or even crashing. While the damage model isn't the best we've seen, you can definitely lose a wing quite easily. Just don't expect the car to break into million pieces as their license doesn't allow them to show that.
The one thing I have problem with is the audio. The engine sounds just aren't good enough although using headphones definitely improved the audio a bit compared to my Logitech Z-5500 speakers. Also do spend time adjusting your wheels. I think my sweet spot is 0% deadzone, 50% saturation, 50% linearity but if someone thinks they have found a better setup, do tell. I'm using Fanatec Porsche 911 S.
Anyway, I think this might be just the game I was hoping in my wildest dreams. I'm a pessimist by nature so I was expecting the worst and I pretty much knew the game would disappoint me but.. it just didn't. It's brilliant. It doesn't rival iRacing but we all knew that even before the release and these two games aren't even trying to compete with each other.
edit: I can't believe I wrote a positive comment about this game. I've been wanting to hate the game since the early screenshots and kept expecting the worst. Ah well, at least WRC 2010 still looks terrible
