***Official Formula One 2011 Thread***

Geoff Crammond GP4 is still a far better simulation with much superior AI, F1 201x is just a pig with makeup on (nice graphics).

LOL

well go and play gp4 then, I've still got a copy somewhere and no it wasn't that good, in fact there were a lot of issues with it.

Mmmm...

Gp4 is a great F1 game as is Grand Prix Legends (Safe to class that as F1 right?)

What issues did you have as the game last I played fully modded was almost perfect taking into account the limitations of the era it was designed in.

F1 2010 and likely 2011 will also have a lot of issues so I do not see your point?

well my point is that GP4 had a lot of issues when it came out and needed a patch or two.

Don't get me wrong, I played all the GPX games and loved them all, but we had the same haters around.

I think some people are asking a bit much fron Codemasters here, they were never going to produce a simulation, only a game. But I do agree 2010 was a botch up and a lot of the criticisms are correct but possible to ignore. I still enjoy a short GP weekend though.

For a long time, while playing GPX, I let myself think it was a simulation, but in reality it's not and no game can ever be, the main reason being that F1 is very physical, environmental and real.

Tried GP Legends once, bonkers game.

£19.85 ... I said I wouldn't buy it until I saw some feedback about it but dammit that is tempting. I think it was Tefal who said "Gamers are like beaten housewives. They say that they won't get beaten again, their husband has changed, blah blah blah, 2 weeks later, back in hospital." Time and time again gamers have gone back to a dev after they have said the right words and time and time again we have been beaten. :( why won't we stop going back.

Hovering over the preorder button as I type this :( What's wrong with us?

Too true - I ended up preordering :(

Pre-ordering is a mugs game anyway, and why you end up with disappointing games.

What's the point in making sure a game is actually good when half the bloody market will hand over their money before you've even finished making it on the strength of some cool looking youtube videos.

It sends completely the wrong message to developers.

GPL is one of the best racing games EVER made, no mistakes allowed, much like real race driving, especially in those cars.

I do not think we are asking too much.

They are making rookie mistakes and in some ways, the game is inferior to the Geoff Crammond titles which they should not be.

Using Tefal's analogie, I refuse to be slapped around and pimped out to mates for a cheap thrill.

Codies, I am leaving and I am taking the dog.

:(:( I feel dirty.

I feel dirty, but am looking forward to it.

Even with all its flaws, I still enjoy F1 2010 simply because it is F1 and I love the sport. We haven't had an F1 game in a long time, so I am happy to support it. Just wish Codies were equally as keep to provide support :p

I think you are hoping for too much if you think Codemasters of today are going to seriously try as hard as Geof Cramond to achieve a simulation.

Kids (and grown ups) on playstations and xboxs don't want simulation, they want a blast.
The 'simulation' approach will never happen again as the market is too small.

I was bored this afternoon so i orderd this. 19.95 from shopto not bad i say.

Also orderd the g27 wheel for quite a nice price also. I thought why not lol.

I will buy rFactor 2 instead then.

I am not saying I want an all out Sim.

Look at the original TOCA games. Far from simulations HOWEVER.. they had SOMETHING about them.

F1 2010 had no soul in my opinion.

One bitten, twice shy...

2 player co-op season... big woop.

I played that with a friend on GP2 on dial up modems.... they only just manage that in their second attempt... FIFTEEN years later.

I've not bought a physical copy of a non-Steam game in ages so I've one question: do games usually still require you to have the disc in your drive while playing? Specifically did F1 2010 require the disc while playing? That Shopto deal is awesome but I really don't want to swap discs everytime I start the game, not in this day and age.
