***Official Formula One 2012 Thread***

Figured I'd download the demo, been looking for a decent racing game to get into for a bit. I'm not talented enough for full blown sims and don't have a wheel, so this might work out alright.

Own 2010 just tried out 2012 for a while last night and it blew my socks off comparatively. I'm not passionate about F1 discipline but it hooked me in from the start. Much prefer the presentation here and the handling seems much more forgiving and tolerant than 2010; only the 360 pad mind, not tried it with my momo wheel yet (poor mans wheel :/)

Think I'll be buying this one. (lack of trust in codies after Dirt Showdown and the scandalous D3 DLC interference tripe)

Im really liking it, does seem a tad hard to go round some corners though, but I think thats down to my braking, I did a short race which was a single flying lap, finishing 14th without any practice in my force india, before finishing 5th in the 15 lap race.

What I did like about it was the ebb and flow of the race that I never found with previous versions, coming up to my pitstop, Jenson Button was behind me and he had a bit of damage according to my pit crew, I was losing him at a couple of seconds a lap, I dont know when he pitted but the last 3 laps he came right back on top of me without me making any big mistakes and got by me with a lap to go, it felt much more like a race than in previous versions and more variable as well.

Well I bought it. Really enjoying it to, have turned off some of the assists, the first one to go was the braking assist. You might as well just have autopilot on!

Started a Career and came 3rd form a 14th place start, so might need to up the difficulty slightly.

I think its better than 2011. The sensitivity of the steering whilst using an xbox pad will take some getting used to but it just works better. The menu system feels nicer to use and the physics of the car are a whole load better than 2011. There definitely is a big improvement from the previous F1.

Yep. The music is amazing too! :D Awesome! :)

After seeing many people ask for an 'online free practice' mode since last year's game... it's highly
frustrating to see that A, this hasn't been added.. and B, you can't even use the 15 minute quali as a practice
session to adjust setups now. As soon as you take to the track, the setups are locked...

This means you need to work out all of your setups in proving ground before hand and I really enjoyed doing
this online with another car to compare sectors/straight line speeds, etc.
Fair enough, lock the setups between quali and the race... but no adjustments at all in online quali
is very poor form. at least give us the practice session if you're going to do this.

The only 3 mode options for online are 'race 'one shot quali' and 'short quali'... it's admittedly short...
why not an option for long quali, or god forbid - ONLINE PRACTICE?... this is the main part of the game
that my friends and I enjoyed and now we can't even repeatedly run the 15 minute session as practice.

Secondly - the co-op championship... we take to this as a chance to run an hour long (still reduced) practice session.
And just like last year, there are too many AI cars on track at any given time.. and just like last year, they're slow into corners and block your laps. Why can't there be a game mode where we can just get online and drive/adjust the cars?!?!?!

As disconnects are a reasonably frequent occurance through steam (and online gaming in general)
plus the fact that the game crashes much more often than it should... once you re-connect to the co-op championship,
your custom setups are gone... you are stuck on a generic setup rendering the entire event pointless
and often skipping the session you were in.

On top of that, the removal of P2 and P3 now means that if there's a weather change between Practice and Quali, your setup will be terrible. back to proving ground again to work on setups... it would be so simple to allow this to happen online. why remove these basic game modes?

my friends and I are quite happy with the handling, sound, graphics and most other parts of the game... (except for the crashes) but the online is a mess. the AI at China are 6-8 seconds off the pace on 'Legend' and I can win from the back of the grid in a 5 lap race... so much for Hood's comments about qualifying mattering more now.

There is also a bug where the driver looks to the right garage wall and you have to press escape/enter a dozen times to be able to look at the in car monitor again... if you let it look full right, the game often crashes.

This game could be so good, but it's becoming more restricted and buggy every year.
I don't know how these simple things are overlooked and why basic game modes are removed
for the sake of single player scenarios with generic setups. Way too much catering to the half arsed player.
Next to zero concern for the online/PC player it would seem.

Back to seven year old sims with sterile graphics we go
