First impressions 100% career - FANTASTIC - And NO bugs so far

Really enjoying this so far.

100% career started, with Toro Rosso (professional level, NO assists).

Melbourne is dry so I cannot comment on any tyre changes by AI.

My first engine started smoking after a lap or two, but I discovered I was causing this by changing down too soon and too fast.

Restarted session, changed driving style slightly, and car sailed through qualifying, but only in 14th place - still getting used to my change in gear selection & over-protecting the engine slightly.

NOTE - I would hate to see this changed, it makes it important to take care of the gearbox, and fast times can still be achieved. No more thoughtless dropping through the gears and using the engine to brake.

Race is the full 58 laps so I don't know why someone else is reporting theirs at only 15, so no problem there.

Good start, but only up into 13th, and bits of realistic shrapnel flying off some cars during first lap - by end of lap one, I had inherited 10th place, and it was EXCELLENT to pass one or two cars limping a bit more slowly, & seemed to be heading for the pits.

Sorry, don't care what anyone says, the handling is superb as far as I am concerned. Possibly a touch too generous on the grip, certainly easier to go through the chicane at Melbourne in 5th now, but overall, I am very impressed, and the feel of speed and race battle has definitely improved..

Then came my first real overtake -on Vettel, lap15, and he seemed to be struggling on his tyres, so eventually I got cleanly past and felt very smug about it in my Toro Rosso. Same thing with Webber, who suddenly seemed to slow, and then peeled into pits behind me.

By now I have got used to the gears and I am feeling more confident that the engine will be fine with my slightly changed driving style (and it feels like an improvement I must admit)

Currently lying in 7th, but some have obviously pitted, time will tell whether tyres, weather etc are improved from 2011, but at the moment, everything I have read on here about bugs & failings of CM, has NOT shown itself on my screen.

So final note from me CM - please DO NOT CHANGE things just because a minority cannot adjust their braking and gear changing - REMEMBER, this year if you make a patch, we are ALL subjected to it because of Steam.

(Although I have just taken the precaution of turning my auto updates off for the moment - not sure if it's possible to permanently avoid updates).

As stated, still a long way to go before I am convinced China isn't going to crash on me for instance, but credit where it's due, and I felt I should balance the books a bit with an honest, POSITIVE experience.

Back to the race :smileyhappy:

p.s. cannot comment on the flashback / engine blow problem as I do not use them.

In the end of day don't look to much into what other people has to say, it's only £20 try it for yourself :)

But there are lots complaining about online races getting disconnected like last years. And for those that have short memories when it comes to Codemasters, things haven't been changing when it's the multiplayer bugs.

(Although I have just taken the precaution of turning my auto updates off for the moment - not sure if it's possible to permanently avoid updates).

Sadly it doesn't work like that. Once the update goes out, Steam deletes the original exe, then you can't play until you allow it to update.

They said they will be changing quite a number of things. And Codemasters track history with patches never goes down well. They botched things in 2010 and 2011. So third times a charm?

after spending a few hours i cans safely say i love it,

you cant drive it like F1 2011 chucking it into a corner doesnt work anymore, its about smooth driving and getting the correct entry into the corner,

oh and V.F just like last year its getting tiresome cutting and pasting bad stuff about the game, you hated last years and you will hate this years too, its pobably easier to just let it drop and move on

You make it sound like I make it up. You seemed to have quickly forgotten about the past problems with their games. Corrupt saves, disconnecting amongst other things. Which seems to be following through as more people report these issues.

Actually, no. I didn't hate it. I detested the endless bugs and faffing about in lobbies trying to get a game going and when a game did start 5 minutes in or whatever duration, people started dropping off with very few people left at the end of the race. It was totally sporadic. Sometimes some races did complete but too few with a full grid. Then if it wasn't that it was the endless corrupt saves since you seemed to ignore what I had said. You too complained about it last year. That and the cheaters.

I don't see why it matters as long as people are enjoying what they have bought (which it seems most here are).

Stop playing if it's that's bad then

Agreed, this forum is for people's experiences on the game not finding various negative comments on the game around the net which could be true on any game. VF out of interest did you get it? If you did then what are your actual experiences of the game (not the demo) and if you didn't then not sure why you are still posting.

I didn't get it - not because I thought it was bad, it was a big improvement on 2010 (though the braking seemed strange) but because I realised from the demo that I like hearing about racing games more than playing them :)
