works a treat by Jing Ting. slient fan :D gonna pick one up myself soon

40 x 40 x 10 mm fan will fit, not perfect size , but it does cover 80% of the cooler. Akasa chipset cooler i used (just the fan, but on clockers u can just get the fan itself) . I have since taking this picture aligned the fan level, and its held in by 2 screws... does the job, dirt cheap solution. Fan running on a controller here to dampen the whine it makes.

I am now having a few issues with @BIOS. It downloads the F5 BIOS from the net but fails to install. Program just crashes. Also tryed it by downloading the F5 files myself and do it that way but the same thing.

Looks like its back to the normal way of BIOS updating, only need a floppy dis now

So I bought one of these bad boys to solve my hdd problem but it doesn't seem to work. Everythings plugged in as it states in the instructions, however, the hard drive doesn't appear in windows.

Is there a specific way to set up SATA? All I've done is install the sata drivers from my mobo cd.

This is perfectly normal behaviour; it's to allow the BIOS to check your hardware config and any overclocks before it actually boots up properly. :)

Arh thanks for the info :-D a, happy now.

gona start ocin soon just wanted to make sure everything is working good first.

Is the drive shown in the BIOS?

want to make sure am doing it right as this is my 1st o/c job

for some reason the RAM is running at 5400 speed, although it is 6400 spec GeiL

Check the Memory tab in CPU-Z. Does it say 1:1 there? All the Geil PC6400 says the same as yours in the SPD tab, but it really is PC6400.

its 1:1 so does the mean CPUz is reporting wrong and it is running at 6400 speeds?

The Geil pc6400 is pre-programmed to identify itself as pc5300 in order to make it more compatible out of the box ie- so that it will run at 1.8v rather than the 2.1v that it needs to run at pc6400 speeds. There should have been a slip of paper in the box saying that you need to set the pc6400 settings maually in your BIOS.

Make sure you put the cooler on properly

I was only getting up to 350 Mhz at 60 degrees under load, until I put my cooler on the right way round (to blow out the back of the case, and not into the PSU), and I followed the Arctic Silver instructions for applying the TIM in a line down the heatspreader, and allow the heatsink to spread it for you (don't use the credit card technique).

Now I get 400 Mhz at about 40 degrees (load).

Maybe I didn't have the cooler seated properly the first time round? Anyway, I'm very pleased with this. Overclocked by a full 1 Ghz to 2.8, for a chip that only costs £126. ;)

Is it safe to go higher?

Yes..!! keep on going mate!

I have my e6300 running at 500FSB - 3.5Ghz and it's loving it ;)

How fast should I be running the memory. Nominally it is 800; should I drop the multiplier down e.g., to 1.66, or can I run it over 800 (e.g., 2.00 multiplier)?

EDIT: now that I'm home I can see that the multiplier does not go below 2.00, so this means the RAM will be overclocked (over 800 Mhz).
