Well guys just built my conroe rig which consists of:

-E6600
-DS3
-2GB Gskill HZ

It booted perfectly fine but arrghhh... there's a real annoyance that i managed to miss when speccing the board.

*Only one IDDE slot... means I can connect my CD-ROM's and thats it. Oh wait I can only actually install one CD-ROM as the IDE port is located on the bottom of the mobo so that my cable doesn't actually reach the port if I use voth drives. This means my IDE HD drive is a no-go. Bugger, bugger and triple bugger.

Not only this but there is this REALLY weird loud buzzing noise coming from the front of the case... almost where my card reader is (which isn't plugged in) and I can't find what's causing it. It didn't seem to happen the first time I booted but after I set the BIOS settings and rebooted it began. It's driving me nuts, any idea what it is?

Okay, appears the horrible buzzing was due to the CPU fan alarms being enabled... I disabled them and its now quiet as a mouse... weird. I've now updated tot he F6 BIOS... what voltage settings do you reccommend in the BIOS for clocking the E6600? I love this, it's like feeling a noob all over again, a rare delight that i'm going to savour as long as possible. :D

EDIT - At 3ghz (9*330) now seems stable.

What should memory multiplier be set to? Ahh 2x.

EDIT EDIT - Now at 3.25ghz, PRIME'ing now. :D

nice one, Richdog.. keep us posted :)

lol will do, I just set mem to +0.2v and everything else to +0.1v. CPU is at 1.4. I have high hopes for 3.4-3.6ghz all going well, can't imagine how it'll scream in games at that speed. :D

Regarding the 1x IDE slot i'll just buy 2x SATA DVD drives later this month considering IDE is almost dead now and I may as well go all SATA, keeps things much neater.

Really looking forward to playing around with this, I haven't had a single hccup yet, and it will be even better when I get an RD600/Bad Axe 2 in a couple of months. :)

Just a cheap XSPC kit (XSPC block, 120.1 rad, 10/8mm tubing).

Just came home to find my E6600 had passed 10 hours 34 minutes 59 seconds of Orthos. Think it got a bit toasty though... need a Thermalright Si-128 asap. :D

The GEIL 6400 stuff is better for this mobo and its only 20 quid more and worth it.

So you are not running the G Skill memory in your rig? Funny i thought my post was clear enough in requesting owners of the G Skill memory to comment on its overclocking suitability. Thanks for the comment about the Geil memory - if you want to paypal me the extra £20 ill go for the Geil ram ;)

If you look just a tad closer at my sig I am running the G skill HZ not the NR modules.

The HZ Modules are entriely Different modules.The G.Skill 2GB DDR2 HZ PC2-6400 (2x1GB) CAS4 Dual Channel Kit (F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ) (MY-013-GS)

Cost £205 and I have clocked these to 1ghz on the DS3.

The NR that you ask about will not overclock to 1ghz the geil will however thats why I mentioned them.

The NR have slacker timings that will result in poorer perfromance than both the HZ and the Geil.

Thats why they cost less.False economy in my book. And 99% of people with the DS3 will agree with me. ;)

The 20 quid extra for the Geil will reap rewards!

Its a tenner per stick! nothing for a mssive gain in overclocking

Indeed :)

I expect more replies like this. :D

So why the GEIL and not the G Skill that you have? I dont understand?

EDIT: To clarify what i dont understand is why you would recommend memory you dont even own, plus you say not to buy memory you dont own either... seems a little odd. Like reviewing or raving about a car youve never driven.

The G skill HZ post 06 06 is fantastic memory but the price is higher than both the GEIL and the NR.

The Geil will clock to similar speeds and is cheaper.I went to conroe early and the GEIL ram was not available, however the G skill HZ was and as you can see from the listing is world record beating ram.

I reccomend the GEIL based on other forums members experience with it.

Gibbo benched the Geil on release and there is a thread devoted to the clocks that were achieved.

SEE HERE

I reccomend the G SKILL HZ if you have the money too. The NR will do the job but the slacker timings and lack of clocking ability make the 20 quid saving not much of a reason to buy over the modules I state. :)
