Official Gigabyte DS3 Owners Thread

Just a suggestion, would it help others if a list of ram thats compatible (thus far) with the DS3 be listed too?

Nice overclocking guide btw
Good idea. I'll look into that. I'm also going to add a OC results table too.

Hey Duke.
First of all the link for the bios is linked back the this thread? Can't find it in your first post tho.
Also struggling with my rig and oc'ing. Followed your guide for the basics for this board but am finding getting above 320fsb a real bitch. +3v on the dims and set to 5,5,5,13 when i should be running at 4,4,4,13 on 1:1 ratio.
+1 on chipset (mch or something), any more and the nb heatsink gets so hot. System is 50 deg.
I have stock cooling atm with a ninja sat in it's box on the floor. I think i need to fit active cooling to the nb but worried it won't fit if i fit the BIG NINJA. Cpu under load is 51 deg.
Any thoughts apperciated.
Hi there,

I've changed the link for the bios, my mistake.

What VCore voltage are you running?

Jobe said:
sorry mate misread it a bit. :o
Core at 1.45v, under load 51deg.
Going to fit the ninja tonight and will up it to 1.5v to see if that does the trick.
If i set it to stock (cpu) and up the ratio on the mem to get me to 4,4,4,13 at about 800, this will tell me if it's the ram i believe?
If it benches the mem is fine and if it doesn't it should mean the ram won't run at stock default settings (2.1v, poss up to 2.2v)
Thanks for looking.

Regards

Jobe

edit: +0.5v? that's a tad high isn't it? Bout 1.8v
Hi there,

Yeah if you run the RAM out of sync it will tell you if it's a problem with the cpu or the mobo/ram. I've done the same thing.. my RAM is fine at 440 (stock is 400), so I'm swapping my E6600 with a m8 who has the DS3 as well, which he knows can go over 400-450 FSB. If he can't get my 6600 over 3.5 then I know it is a cpu itself and my mobo is ok.

Sorry I meant +0.1v on the cpu. You got me confused as well now :p

Hey Duke just a couple of things.

1 In your oc thread you say up the cpu volts to 1.45. Then in a reply to my previous thread you say up it by +1v. Just to clarify, the 1.45v is correct for air yes?

2 the f4e bios. I have the official f3c download. Do i just swap the file with the f3c bios, so leaving the two app files and the new bios file.
Hi there,

Default voltage is around 1.35 so I would recommend running 1.45v when overclocking to begin with. This can be increase to 1.50 and 1.55v with performance air cooling or water cooling.

With the new BIOS; just download it to your desktop and run @BIOS (found on the driver CD) and point it to the new BIOS file. Update as normal :)

I'm probably going to look stupid here but shouldn't the Precharge delay (tRAS) be set to 15 and the ACT to ACT delay be Auto? I thought 5-5-5-15 timings referred to CAS Latency - RAS to CAS delay - RAS Precharge - Precharge delay?
I think you're right.. I'll check :)

edit: Yep well spotted, ta. Edited opening thread

So I might be able to buy a pci-express sound card to go in one of those slots?

But not a graphics crad?
Yep basically anything which is PCI now (soundcards, network/wireless cards, firewire etc) will be replaced by this. I don't see it happening for a good couple of years though.

There maybe graphics cards for 1x slots, used for workstations for motherboards that don't have onboard, but I expect most will just design 16x slot cards.

evening all currently running at 2.8ghz with fsb at 400,(400x7), not altered voltages or ram settings yet as new to o/cing running sp2004 temps hold out at 50degrees, my ram shows in cpu-z as frq 400,ratio of 1:1,5,6,6,18. delving into the bios should i alter these settings and up the voltage? or do i just keep upping the fsb till i hit a brick wall or stability issues.
running 3dmark 2001 as well as sp2004 getting score of 28013 is this about right or do i wanna start altering setting in bios? thanks in advance for your opinions and thoughts new to the forums so be gentle with me :)
Welcome to the forums :)

You can just keep going until you hit a wall before needing to increase the volts, which maybe quite soon.. you might as well increase them a touch anyway by 0.25v on the cpu and 0.1v on the ram.

How many people are using the on-board sound for gaming?

I heard onboard sound lowers frame rate.
There are varied reports.. it basically only matters if you use any additional audio effects in game.. for most things it won't make much difference.

I picked up an Audigy 4 cheap so am using that anyway.

Is the "CPU Smart Fan Control" feature the same as asus's qfan technology?
meaning does the motherboard adjust the fan speed according the the cpu/mobo temps.

.. and how many fans can it support, thanx
Yep they are all the same basically. I think it only supports the CPU fan header?

I've got a silent 80mm case fan which blows right into the centre of the board. This dropped the temps a lot and keeps the memory area cool as well :)
