Is there a specific way to set up SATA? All I've done is install the sata drivers from my mobo cd.
Is the drive shown in the BIOS?

Build went ok a few probs mainly from the scythe ninja being so big.. A warning for people with the cooler master 810 stacker case, I had to remove the internal 120mm fans and mount them on the outside to allow the ninja to fit in.

Straight away shoved 1.45v thru it and went up to 3Ghz :) Such a sweet mobo and CPU... so whiling to be clocked! Im sure I can go further and will try soon.

One thing though the chipset heatsink on this DS3 is SO hot to touch when OC'ed.. Gonna have to get a fan for it as I can't see it liking that for very long.

Just loving this mobo and system.. been waiting ages to get the money together to buy, im not disappointed at all :)

Don't worry too much about the chipset temp.. several people who have put a fan on it or near it have reported no gain in overclocking, however it would certainly help the long term health of it :)

Gigabyte has certainly improved the overclocking ability of the GA-965P-DS3 motherboard with the F7 BIOS. We had similar overclocking results with our X6800 CPU but unfortunately could not verify any improvements with the E6300 or E6400 processors. The reason why? It is the current 450FSB limitation with the Micron D9 based memory modules and the BIOS implementation on this motherboard. We have not witnessed this issue on Gigabyte's other motherboards in this series to date. While we have one set of Micron D9 based memory that will allow us to hit the 500FSB mark with our E6300 at a 1:1 memory ratio, all other D9 based modules in our labs fail to even POST on this board past the 460FSB range. We sincerely hope that Gigabyte rectifies this issue in short order as this one flaw really detracts from an otherwise superb motherboard for the price. Of course, if you are not into reaching the higher overclocks then this should issue should not be a concern.

Overall, we were very pleased with performance results of the new BIOS. We were afraid the overclocking improvements would come at the expense of memory performance or stability. However, Gigabyte figured out a way to improve overclocking through BIOS optimizations and has if anything improved stability at the higher FSB speeds in our testing. This is impressive to us, and hopefully the users of this board will also be impressed with the F7 BIOS.

Just installed the new F7 bios and spotted they have updated some of the menus. I think there is one extra ram voltage option too?



 
SATA drives work the same way as IDE with Intel chipsets. I didn't need a disk or anything for my Raptor to install XP. You only need it for RAID.

AFAIK most Intel chipset boards do now only come with a single IDE channel, unless the motherboard manufacturer adds another somehow.

The stock voltage for DDR2 is 1.8v so you just add onto that.

The DS3 says that as well :confused: I think it's due to the rounding of memory or something? Neither have onboard video which would normally use 32-128MB of system memory, if you didn't have a dedicated card.
 
It should give a tidy boost :) Even things like Windows will be a touch quicker, mainly due to dual core etc.

Btw I've updated the opening post with some new info/links and started a FAQ section, now we have a lot more info about the board. If anyone wishes to add, just post here :p
 
I've just got an 80mm inside the case just hanging down which blows air over the memory and chipset.
