Official Gigabyte DS3 Owners Thread

Right started the overclock but I am a bit concerned with my temps.

I have only done 15 minute tests so far using SP2004 to get the first self test and using Small FFTs - Stress CPU on both cores at the same time.

Core Temp Beta 0.93 under full load shows the Core temp as 70c for both and never changes and 52 Idle.

Speedfan 4.31 shows Temp 1 as 34c and never changes and Temp 2 as 64-67 under load and 42-44 idle.

I tried the overclock at 300FSB (2.7) to start and then changed to 333FSB (2.99) and the temps were exactly the same.

I'm thinking this is way too high so is there anyway to lower the temps using just the air fans I have in the rig. - There are 5 case fans plus the PSU, CPU and Graphics card fans.

Just had a look at EasyTune5 and the PCHealth hardware monitor has a red/yellow triangle with an ! in it flashing by both the CPU and System in the fans section - I'm guessing this is a warning and could be my problem.

Components installed:

Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775)
G.Skill 2GB DDR2 GA PC2-5400 (2x1GB) CAS3 Dual Channel Kit (F2-5400CL3D-2GBGA)
OcUK MSI GeForce 7900 GTO SILENT 512MB GDDR3 VIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
OCZ GameXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply

Anyone have an idea what I can do?

Many Thanks

I don't have a proper thermometer at hand but I do have one on my watch which normally is pretty accurate and that says 22.7c

From just me sitting in this room I can tell you it's not that warm :)

is the cpu fan on full speed?
what tim did you use?
maybe reinstall the h/s(pain in the butt i know :( )
the easy tunes warning can be set to lower/higher so check what setting it is at and adjust accordingly
core temp will be more accurate than easy tunes too

CPU Fan at full speed I dont know and I think the fan speeds are my problem.

Speedfan says idle between 6400 - 7100 RPM and under 100% load 2500 - 2800 RPM if that helps.

As for timings I used the guide thats on page 1 of this thread and the guide in the sticky of this forum.

Everything that they state I did.

in easy tunes set the fan speed warnings to above whatever they are now, this will get rid of any warnings due to too low /high fan speed warning settings.
as for the actual temps ,i can only suggest reseating the heatsink
what tim did you use then?(tim=Thermal Interface Material)
AS 5 or some cheepy stuff?

The MX-1 (I think thats the name) stuff that came with it.

Fan speeds are: Speedfan says idle between 6400 - 7100 RPM and under 100% load 2500 - 2800 RPM if that helps.

i think you get yellow triangle and a siren in easytunes if the fan warning is set at too low a speed
as to the temps issue all i can suggest is to take off the heat sink and re-apply the compound(maybe get some AS 5)
i would have thought that with that cooler you should get a lot lower temps
possibly it isn`t sitting properly on the top of the die(CPU top)
apparently some dies are either concave or convex
those speed fan readings look reversed too

Thanks and yes I agree I would have assumed the speed increased under load but they are definitely what it says.

How do I change the fan speed or rather which way would you suggest and at what setting?

Thanks again

well i would try using either easytunes OR speed fan not both in case they are conflicting
i `think` the fan settings in speed fan are on the first tab (not sure as i am not using it ATM)
double check the settings for temps and fans in the bios(is the fan a 3pin with 3 wires?or a 4 wire intel ref version?)if it has 4 wires i believe you want to set the fan to PWM fan control in the bios

Just went back into the Bios and had a look around.

In the PC Health status section, Current SYSTEM Fan Speed is at 0 RPM, now I'm assuming System Fan is the tower fans? and if so they are all running so I dont understand why it's being reported as 0 RPM unless of course I'm completely wrong about what System Fan means.

Just had a look inside the case and found the 4 pin for SYS_Fan but I haven't connected anything to it as I dont see anywhere a 4 pin connector.

The only 4 pin connector I can see is the CPU fan which is connected to CPU_FAN.

Is this normal or have I made a mistake?

Thanks again.

so long as you have the cpu fan connected to the cpu header it should work ok.what have you got the fans speed setting on in the bios?
i would set this to disable then the cpu fan will run @ 100% all the time

after you have tried tis i think it is time to re-install the heatsink,if you are worried about the temps still being too high :)

My new cooler (Titan Vanessa-L) has brought my temps down by 19c under load.

3.36ghz 1.36v - 74c under load with stock heatsink/fan
3.36ghz 1.36v - 55c under load with Titan Vanessa-L Cooler

can try for 3.5/6ghz now!:)

Nah mate, you'll never get it to run at 6GHz ;) :D

How do you get the easytune utility to work? It seems to install fine but when I try to open it it just shows the eggtimer and then does nothing
