Official Gigabyte DS3 Owners Thread

Well i'm happy so far, not done intel in about 6 years (or more) and my stuff arrived yesterday, still installing stuff etc but on an initial boot + a few tweaks i'm as you see in the link below.... check that Voltage ^_^

Clicky

Not ran orthos or anything yet so would probably fall over on that, when i first booted at this and checked CPU-Z my ram was running at 5-8-8-23 .

not sure which temp is reading right, core temp beta gives individual core temps of 30 - 32 at idle and Speedfan reads 38, what confuses me even more is in Easy tune AND in the bios my system temp is 38 and my CPU temp is 19... surely thats reading back to front..

Im going to give this overclocking malarky a bash next week once i back up all my important documents :) lol....

So at present my cpu temp is at 18 at stock...

When overclocking what should the ideal temp should be? because im a little weary as my cpu fan speed is not displaying correctly... its displaying at 400rpm

and my system fan is at 1200rpm, but the temps are generally cool...

So what temps should be the limits when overclocking with these mboards?

Im currently running my CPU @ between 48 and 52 ( Goes up and down like crazy between those every few seconds ) - Temps read out by SpeedFan v4.27
So far, I am not too worried abotu the temps as they are, because the original Fuji PC I robbed the CPU from was running 68c stock anyway, so hopefully I am ok to about 70 perhaps?

I am running a very good and nice 4.5Ghz ( 250x18 ) @ 1.50v - fairly rock solid so far... This is in my LAN room, and its friggin cold in there, allowing such nice clocks on air

Whats the theoretical max of this CPU? ( Temps / Volts / Speed etc )

Oh yeah, its a prescot 660 3.6GHz by the way... Still not got RAM for the conroe so thats not doing anythign right now.

well i'm holding stable at 3.2Ghz using 458 x 7, Geil 4-4-4-12.

Dont think i'll get anymore out of this ram but i'm no expert, does this amount seem about right? I dont want to start throwing loads on voltage through anything to get a small amount so i'm pretty happy with the result.

Ok, anyone want to give me some info here?

I have currently got 2 DS3 Mobos.

In one, I am running theconroe at stock, in the other a P4 Prescott.

I only have a pair of sticks of DDR2 RAM, so I only use one at a time, the P4 actually, otherwise the conroe is stock.

The P4 I have managed to get up to some silly speeds with very little effort which has been a pleasant surprise.

At this time, I am running it 260x18 which is english money is not a million miles off 4.7Ghz, and its actually stable too... If a little warm.

I have now got myself ( Not yet come ) some 5300 RAM for the Conroe.

In real terms, what speeds will I need to be looking at in order for my conroe to beat the P4?

From the little testing I have done, I am thinking that clock-for-clock, the conroe is twice that of the P4... Ok, the Conroe is dual core and the P4 pretends to be, and the RAM I am using is naff RAM, but thats what I seemed to be looking at.

So, given that my P4 is running 4.7Ghz, in reality, what will I need to be clocking my Conroe ( 6300 ) at, to beat it?

The RAM I am getting is GEIL 5300

Oh sodding hell... No, I wont will I?

Ok, so even at 2.3 Whats that equivalent to then?

I have not even attempted any kind of overclock with my Conroe you see...

Listen...

Will the DS3 let me play with one stick of RAM?

At least that way I can put them together and have 512MB... Just to play for a bit.

got 2.5, 1:1 on the pc5300 at 4-4-4-12... good overclocking ram but you'll still want the better stuff probably to take it further.
Haven't tried clocking any higher than this but it's tempting.

Ok guys, I think I will do that then...

I do agree, its being silly getting the ultimate CPU to only go halves on the RAM and not actually being any better off is it?

2.3 on a conroe is equivalent to... What?

I have a few AMD64's floating happily at 2.5 and the P4 has managed 4.7 so... At best the Conroe will be about on par with the P4 ( give or take a few )

Its a right shame that Intels dont do what the AMDs now do... Annoyingly, I got DDR4400 on my Socket As only to go to A64 and find out that I can run pretty much any RAM I like and clock the nuts off it, and now Im back to this.

Ho hum eh?

Ok, pull back on the RAM then, get 6400 at least.. Right. TA!
