Official Gigabyte DS3 Owners Thread

Well Ive given up so far trying to go higher than 2.8mhz with the system below. no matter what I try, I cannot get past 425/430mhz. I've tried slackening timings, raising voltages (the usual, Vcore,Vdimm, MCH, pci-e bus, etc) and it still bombs out of prime95, orthos, etc. Currently on the F7 bios versh. Its rock solid at 400 x 7 though, so it seems like a wall I keep running into.
It seems to me to be this "430fsb" bug I've read about, can anyone shed any light on this prob please, I'd like to get to about 450 x 7 if possible.
Cheers. :)

tbh mines 450x7 at stock, ram at 5-5-5-18 iirc at +0.5 and thats on two systems (E6300 DS3, E6300 DS4). the DS4 will boot at 465x7 at uber volts, but the IDE controler becomes unstable.

Hi mate, what ram slots are you using? I had the 430 fsb bug before but managed to swap it for a 450fsb bug by switching my ram to the yellow slots.
Also, does that Geil ULL have micron d9 ic's?

Mine are in the yellow, not really had any problems so I guess I should probably leave them there. I'm just concerned that they are very close to the CPU heatsink and there's not much room for cooling.

Just one more thing, where's the case temp. sensor on the board? Speedfan is showing my case temp at nearly 60 degrees but the CPU temp at around 40 under load (in speedfan and TAT), perhaps I'm obscuring it with something to cause it to misreport.

I've tried the memory in both sets of dimm slots and in one set, the pc refused to boot, but in the other, no probs at all (except I can't get above 430 fsb).
Dunno if the Geil ULL uses the micron ic's, but I'll see if I can find out :)

I'm guessing they're not going to fix anymore memory issues anytime soon then. Was holding out for a bios update but now I think i'm just going to have to sell my NR sticks, but the RAM prices are still far too high and some have even risen more so I don't know what to do.

I'm sure they're still working on the memory issues, at least the anandtech article suggested they were

http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2854

I'm gonna try and get 450 x7 with all the DRAM settings in the bios set to "auto" rather than manually "forcing" the timings, but set the Vdimm to about 2.1v-2.2v, and see what happens, though I suspect the pc won't boot due to overly slack timings (I totally corrupted me windows installation a while back and had to do a re-instal), so I'm a bit cautious atm.
Wadya think of me chances?

I can't imagine using the auto settings would help matters, but it might be worth a shot. I know where you're coming from re corrupted windows, I had to reinstall about 2 days after my first install on this rig. Have you tried dropping the multi to 6x to remove the cpu from the equation, locking the pci-e freq @ 101 instead of auto, and adding +0.1v onto the GMCH and FSB? I find that 2.2vdimm (+0.4) makes my system unstable for some reason, as does +0.1v on the pci-e. might be worth bearing in mind.

I've tried all those voltage adjustments you mentioned and its still no go. I will however try dropping the multi to 6 to remove the cpu from the equation as it were. Its just that reading the probs ppl have been having with these components, it all points to the geil being the problem here.
I must admit, I'm tempted to get hold of some gskill or OCZ and try those.

Hi,

Has anyone managed to get Wake On Lan (WOL) via the internet to work with the DS3?

I'm wondering if its a LAN driver or a Belkin router issue because I have only managed to get it working once

Its a bit weird  help...

Hi guys

I've put PCI-E Freq to 105 and dimm volt +0.4 as you advised.
I also set Core Volt to 1,43125 and this spec, after changes runs quite well. Once orthos runs for 8 hours without error, and now i have stable 1 hour second test and still running.

But my question is about voltages.
Why when I've set core to 1,43125 in CPU-Z and Everest shows 1,38 ? and Dimm voltage I've set as I said +0,4 so it should be 2,2 but everest shows 2,08 ? It is something wrong ?

And question about temperatures
Processor temp in full stress is now 58*C-59*C it is normal or too high ?
Core temps are 60*C-62*C - what about that?
My hsf is Scythe Ninja. maybe it is wrong mounted ?

In idle tem is 38*C and I think that is quite good.

Thank you for your answers

cheers
mordim3r

EDIT: Orthos stops after 1h10m :/ what could be wrong ?
