Official Gigabyte DS3 Owners Thread

Hmmm...

The most played game in my house at this time, if NFS-U2

It wont run at all well on the DS3, and I am struggling to fix this.

During the install it crashed with the EREG.EXE program, but the game itself seemed to go in fairly well...

Now, it crashes within 5-10 minutes every time... Its so frequent that we cannot even get to a stage where we can save a game, so every time we try to play it, we have to start a whole new career.

This is not good enough.

Also runn FAH on both cores, its now runnign at 51c !!!

Wow... Cool if its doing nowt, shoots up if its working.

Anyway, has anyone else had any problems playing NFS on this board?

If you are not interested in RAID, then just using the OnBoard is just fine.

There are 6 ports... 4 Orange and 2 Purple.

The 2 purple ones are using the same controler as the IDE Port.

So, the PC sees the 4 orange ones first, then the IDE Port, and then the Purple ones.

If you are to use them as just normal HD ports, they are fine.

How many people here can get to 500fsb with their DS3. I want to get a 6300 (watercooled) to 3.5GHz with some GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2.

What are my chances?

Second Opinion eh?

Ok, He's told you already.

That will pretty much sum it up mate. The chances are VERY GOOD INDEED

Oh, I got to ask...

WTF are you doing bothering with Water?

This CPU runs colder than a penguins nadders on air!!!! - I doubt you will find any improvement with Water thats worth all the effort.

Well I already have watercooling in place, so it's only a case of changing the cpu block - plus my pc is lovely and quiet too. ;)

also you can put more volts just incase you wanna.

Rubbish mate,

Case temps go down because the heat is taken out of the case to the rad.
Meaning slower case fans meaning less noise etc...

meaning cooler components meaning better clocking ram meaing betting clocking GPUs.

Meaning slower PSU fans etc..

The list goes on and on and on.

I know what you are all saying, and as he already has the kit and its all in place etc etc then thats fine and great... I thought he wasplanning on buying the kit just to overclock, and I feel that to be a waste of time a lot of the time as many many people are hitting the max of the CPU on Air and still getting stone cold CPUs

As for system temps this too is not really the problem as such.

I have a couple of WCed kits, and for the Socket A systems that are pushed beyond, then sure, Water does help, and indeed it also keep the temps down, but for my A64 and the Conroe setup ( Not the P4 - thats a whole different temperature level altogether ) but these PCs are all overclocked to a silly level and they are all silent, and I do mean silent - you cannot hear them unless you listen carefully and they are all overclocked like hell as I said and on air, and as for the temps, they are all well below any kind of danger levels... None of the AMDs are above 45, most hovering at 32 in fact... The conroe unfortunately is a bit warmer, currenty at 48c but its running 24/7 @ 3.3 on 1.32v and both folding and encoding video with both cores.

The Conroe is a little overhyped for encoding and folding at the same time by the way

I will admit one thing however, and that is that my CPU Block has 6 lugs to clamp it to a Mobo... One of the top ( or bottom ) lugs has broken off... ( The center one ) and so it can now only be used on Socket A... I have never had the chance to try it out on 754/939 system, so I may be wrong there, but as I said, the systems are all overclocked and are all silent anyway, so I realyl dont think that I would be getting any true benefit from using it on a recent CPU anyway.

And as for reducing the life of a CPU... What a pile of crud. Seriously guys come on... A CPU will last for years and years... Far longer than any of us will realistically need it to.

Reduce the life? - You will have sold it on long before you need to worry about its TBF even comes close. Hell I still have an XP17 thats clocked to hell and I seriously cannot think of time that I had not been clocking its t1ts off in the last few years ,and even if it blew up today, I would not moan cos its not my main system and its done more than I would have ever hoped it would... If I am using my current CPUs in the same number of years to come, I would be VERY surprised.

Sorry mate... I thought that you were going to buy a WC kit just to clock it.

If you already got it, then use it.

No worries mate, its good to know that the C2D's run cold anyway as I will probably have my 8800GTX card in the loop too. :D

big thanks

Just wanted to say a big thanks for all the info on the DS3 everyone.

I bought mine on the strength of all the comments and information about setup here and after two installs its now running properly. I also went for the recommended GeIL 2GB low latency ram that was on offer and this has been superb.

All the advice on memtest and the orthos tool certainly got things stable for me.

I'm running raid 1 mirror using the Jmicron purple sata ports which are now running good. I think it's been said before but incase anyone missed it like me :o get the ds4 if you want good intel based raid. My first install ran rubbish with the mouse fractionaly pausing while it wrote to the hard disk. Its hard to describe this but if you move the mouse repeatedly from one side to the other really fast it would very slightly pause then work normally. So second install I did using latest drivers 1.17.3.2 and used latest drivers for everything. Runs great now!

Also to the guy who was having probs running NFSU2 I'm running this aswell and also got that install error but the game runs great so I would persist with this board.

Thanks again

Good to hear :)

Yeah, I am doing...

I have now got my AMD back as my main board, but I am still running the conroe for sure.

Funny really but I am running FAH on both cores, and on the AMD, if I do any video encoding, the FAH cores drop to 0% CPU useage, and on the Conroe they still keep to about 25% ( 50% of each core that is ) and so, I am finding that apart from SuperPI, the conroe isnt really that much faster than the AMD after all... Not really... It gets worse if I am running a load of programs at ocne, so, even though I now have a conroe thats many times quicker than even my fastest AMD, I have seen that the AMD is much more powerful at multiple apps and so, I am still sticking to AMD as my main CPU.

So, I am perfectly happy to go back to the AMD for now.

It could be that I sitll need to tweak here and there, but Im not convinced.

NFSU2 now runs a million times better... I am running XP64 and finding this many many times more stable than XP32, giving me the ability to play many races instead of it dying in a few minutes as I had it previously.

Hey Lmeister..
What RAM have you got and what Volts?
