Official Gigabyte DS3 Owners Thread

Thats a bios option I'd like to see, I can't get me geil past 430mhz. any higher and its probsville. I'd like a memory divider below "x2" , say x1.6-x1.8ish, to lower the ram speed and allow a bigger overclock of the cpu.

Yeah, just imagine it.

E6300 @ 6Ghz coming up!!! LOL

Saying that... With my Socket A Systems, I was ocked out due to the RAM. I bought some seriously quick ram and then upped to A64, which didnt need the stuff... Thats annoying.

Saying that, I still got my Socket A system, and they are tuned like hell and are running every bit as quick as my A64 PCs so I aint moaning.

You just watch... As soon as we have all spent up on getting serious RAM, Intel will come up with a new plan that only needs PC133 again

So with any luck it could be a BIOS update???

Yeah, that would be most handy. My cpu has plenty in it, it's prime stable @3.32 with only 1.375v (might prime on even lower volts) but im sure my Geil is holding me back. I have sent back my Geil due to a dodgy stick (Windows would not even load with one stick @stock speed with 5-5-5-15 timings! ) so fingers crossed I'll get a better set that will do higher fsb (500fsb me hopes!) :D

noob alert

want to get overclocking my system. but after reading all the guides i'm still unsure of a few of the settings.

so i want someone to give me some settings that wi get me between 2.5ghz-3.0ghz :D

my system:
ds3 (Obviously) f7bios
e6300
geil ultra pc6400 2GB
arctic pro7 cooler
500w fsp psu

please help the noob out :D

i tried the base settings on the front page but it didn't work(wouldn't save)

Best thing to do is to just up the basic voltages a touch and increase the FSB in stages... :)

Yeah that would be loverly, but TBH I would have thought that if they were going to impliment that they would have done so by now.

I don't think it would help me though as I think my board runs out at about 470.

I really shouldnt complain with a 75% overclock

Try the following:
hit CTRL+F1 on bios front page.
Drop your cpu multi to 6, RAM to x2 @ 5,5,5,15 and set the ram voltage to +.3 (2.1v) or +.5 (2.3v) if you have some active cooling as I noticed my ram was getting burning hot on just 2.1. Actually prompted me to buy a new case and better cooling.

Set the Vcore to 1.35v, +0.1 on the other voltages and just keep upping your fsb by 5MHz.You could try bigger incriments while your still under 400 fsb. Run Orthos for 10mins each time. Max stable FSB

Then set you RAM timings back to 4,4,4,12 and fsb back to 400. Test with Orthos for 10 mins or so and up by 5 MHz, repeat. Max stable RAM

Then whack your CPU multi upto max and set your RAM to 5,5,5,15 again. Drop your fsb down to about 400MHz. Test. Max stable CPU

I hope that makes sense :D

Hey dont worry. Im chuffed with the extra 800mhz! I will in the near future hopefully get some geil 6400 and get over 3ghz. Then ill be very happy :D

DS3 / E6300 results.

Must start clocking mine a bit more now after reading this thread.
Im currnetly running my DS3 with F4 bios, using Geil PC6400 ram
Vcore is @ 1.28 volts
Multy = 7
FSB = 428
FSB:DRAM = 1:1
Timings are 5:6:6:20
AF7 Pro cooler rig runs at around 35-37deg Celcius on idle and 50 ish full load.
Temps taken using Intel TAT

Should i be able to get my ram timings tighter.?

Thanks all

Checked Ram on Geil

Just check ram specs and theyre stated as 4:4:4:12 1.9v - 2.3.
Im still running 1.9v on mine, would altering my timings make much difference to my overall performance.?

Also quickly what kind of scores should i hope to see in 3dmark05 with my rig please?

Got my Geil now and Im at 3.3ghz! Just doing an 8 hour prime to verify it.

Temps at 49 deg c :D

I would up the voltage to the rated 2.3v - it will help with overclocking & running better (lower) timings. You could go up a bit further but it could then shorten the life of the ram etc.

Yeah I had found that they were flesh burning hot at 2.1 so I got a case with a big 250mm on the side - Plenty of positive pressure

I had a quick try to see if 2.3 helped but didn't appear to. I only dropped the cpu multi to eliminate that. I didn't have time to drop the fsb and up the ram multi in order to eliminate posible mobo weakness but thats what I guessing the problem is.

Thats why I'm so curious to find out what mobo volts people are running.

Oh, one other thing. I have tried the ram at 6,6,6,18 to see if that made any difference but the machine wouldn't post whatever I did

Why would you increase the CAS? (the first number on the timing). This is the one which makes the most difference. It would be better to run 4.0-5-5-10 then 5.0-4-4-10 for example :)

My Conroe is at stock at the moment and the ram is running @ 333mhz (4:5), 4.0-4-4-12 :)

Currently running 5,5,5,15 as 4,4,4,12 won't go over about 430MHz.

I tried 6,6,6,18 just to see if it would allow me a higher fsb, proving that it was the ram rather than the mobo which was struggling.

I'm not sure if this a conventional school of thought when OC'ing but it seemed to make sense to me

Thats what i found with my geil. Had to slacken the timings to get stable overclocks. Shame it wont boot now!!!

omg, why why why, even my 820 is overclocked Duke!
Its good to see that the DS3 is going strong, had a lot of help from this thread. keep it up guys.
