Official Gigabyte DS3 Owners Thread

You'll need to set the ram to a 3x multi in the BIOS MIT page adn whilst you'r in the bios hit ctrl-f1 on the main page to unlock the advanced options and set you ram manually to either 4,4,4,12 or 5,5,5,15 depending on your ram specs.

cpuz has been known to report things incorrectly on the new platforms.

The best way to set it up correctly is to set it up correctly

are you overclocking? What components have you got?

I dont think i'll be over clocking for the moment.
I have an E6600, 8800GTS, GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400...

How do i know, which of the two timings to use?
4,4,4,12 or 5,5,5,15?

If it's the GEIL UUL use 4,4,4,12 and a 3x ram multi.

See what cpuz says then

Ben, your not overclocking at the moment so set you RAM timings to 4-4-4-12 in the bios, i have a 6300 and my ram multi is 2.0, and you should be set.

Then.....

START OVERCLOCKING!!! Its a sin to leave that 6600 at stock! ;) :D

Hey guys.
Just built the new computer and was having a poke around.
My ram is the GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400 800MHz, but CPU-Z shows 400?

Am i being stupid or is somethig wrong?
Cheers.

Sorry, I'm being a blithering idiot.

You rams running at 400x2, hence ddr2-800 :D

You just need to change those timings to 4,4,4,12 to be properly optimised at stock speeds. It't won't make much difference but hey it's free, guarunteed speed :D

It's true, but overclocking does opena whole new can of worms. TBH OC'ing these boards is pretty easy.

As tony says just set your ram multi to 2 and I personally would leave your timings at 5,5,5,15 for the time being.

Make sure you know where the CMOS reset jumper is (near the cmos battery on mobo) and have a flat blade screwdriver handy just incase. You shouldn't need it.

The set you fsb to 300, test with Orthos (google it) for 20-30 mins. Then try 320, 340, 360. Testing with Orthos each time. After that I'd make the incriments smaller, like only 5-10MHz. This will still bump the core speed by 45-90MHz each time.

You might want to up the core voltage to 1.4v to start with but I prefer to wait until I get errors in Orthos as it lets me know when the cpu is starting to struggle.

Hope this helps

The DS3 has a fail safe where if you try to push too much it will reboot, each time reducing the overclock until its happy. It may then boot but still not be stable. But its true, you may still need the cmos reset! Used it once already! ;)

The best advice is to read the first post in this thread, print it off and away you go!

This is absolutly true. I would especially agree with printing off the first post in this thread. It's wouldn't hurt to try and read the first few pages just to familiarise yourself with some of the issues people have been having.

Don't let the horror stories put you off though. Most of the issues have been corrected with the newer bios's.

I would update if you using f5 or earlier, before you start oc'ing. This can be done easily in windows with bg's @BIOS utility :)

Just think of it this way; your ram is out of sync with the cpu.. you need to OC the cpu to get it back to 1:1 ;)

:D

Hey guys - the new f8 bios is out here

Just says updates cpu id - why do they never do proper release notes with these things????

Leave it. It's a dog. The boot issues of the f8 betas are still there.

Unless you don't overclock ofcourse...

Which Vista drivers? Vista's running fine on my DS3.

But they are all beta... but you're right, they are ok... i really should moan about the Nvidia drivers! Now they need to pull their fingers out!

What do you mean by boot issues? My DS3 with F8i is working just fine. One time I had this strange decrease in fsb but other than that no problems. I have to use F8i because F7 don't work with my x-fi.
