Official Gigabyte DS3 Owners Thread

f8 isn't holding overclocks for a lot of ppl (myself included). If it happened to a system during the f8 betas, it seems to be still happening on f8 final.

Opening post updated with new BIOS release. If anyone has anything to add, links to reviews, tweak guides etc just let me know & I'll add it.

:)

i updated my s3 f4 to f7 it now says DS3 F7 lol.

my problems are still there.

it appears that rather than cycling on and off if the mainboard and bios detect errors, it just sits and wont post.

The S3 is the DS3 isnt it?

Very same board, just different components like the Caps?

And cheaper!

So, it would not actually matter anyway woud it?

Correct me on this anyone?

The DS3 clocks better

Hey.

Ive safely overclocked my 6300 to 2.8 Ghz (400fsb x7) with ram at 2x Multi = 800ddr

I want to make the cpu 3.2ghz tho (458fsb x7) but Im not sure what I am supposed to do with the ram.

Do I need to keep the ram at 800mhz ? or can i just do 458 x2 ? It will give a wierd number for the ram fsb, does this matter?

Any suggestions would be great.

Btw atm all the voltages are what are suggested in the first page by the OP, with the ram at +0.3 = 2.1v. Its Geil 2gb Dual Channel set running at 4-4-4-12 if that helps!

Im also running the Arctic Pro 7 Cooler and the temps atm are around 34 Idle. Unless I have my rooms fan heater on then it jumps to 36.

Cheers!

You will easy get 3.2ghz. The ram will overclock no problem. You may need to loosen the timings to 5-5-5-15 to get stable.

What are your load temps like? Using orthos?

Hmm Orthos :) ?

I used speedfan when I was testing my 2.8 Ghz. And using Sp2004 (2 of them, 1 on CPU 0 one on CPU 1) The temp was fluctuating at 49-51 even after about 2 hrs.

Ive just booted up in 3.21 ghz 458x7 mem x2

Stable so far,gonna test.

Temps are ok?

Ill try look for this orthos thing.

Cheers
Ok nvm im an idiot i think Orthos IS sp2004 lol

Im thinking...

I got

DS3 + P4 3.6 @ 4.3 - Been to 4.7 which is cool, or rather HOT in this case
DS3 + Conroe 6300 @ 3.0

Very soon Im planning on wasting a nice wad on either a top Conroe or more likely a Kentsfield, and that will go into a DS3 and the P4 I still want to keep at 4.3

So, would it be any cop for the P4 or shall I just forget about it and get another DS3?

I am considering another board actually... The DS3 is nice etc but Im having too many issues with both of mine and I am not 100% happy with them.

Played F.E.A.R for 10 mins and it crashed.

Fear has encountered an error and must be shut down.

:(

This most likely the ram?

Is 3.2ghz @ 5-5-5-15 better than

2.8ghz @ 4-4-4-12?

Cheers

Edit: Relaxed the timings to 5-5-5-15. Will see ig it helps.

If it does, Should i consider resetting to 4-4-4-12 and upping the Mem Voltage another +0.1? Currently its at 2.1 (+0.3)

Edit 2: Crashed again after 5 mins, same error message. Maybe the voltage needs changing on the ram, unless the CPU is the problem

Edit 3: SP2004 Immediately gives the error
"Test 1, 4000 Lucas-Lehmer iterations of M19922945 using 1024K FFT length.
FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file.
Torture Test ran 0 minutes 7 seconds - 1 errors, 0 warnings.
Execution halted."

Whats wrong :P ?

Edit 4. Well it definitely seems to be the ram. when i use SP2004 to test MAINLY the cpu, it doesnt not give any errors.
Ive tried the ram at 5-5-5-15 at 2.2v tho. Will 2.3 make a diff ? Seems a lil high

Yeah thats the RAM surely.

My 2 pairs of RAM are :-

2 x Corsair XMS6400
2 x Geil 6400 ULL

Both pairs ( Not in at the same time however In case your wondering... ) are rated at 4-4-4-12, the Geil at 2.1 and the Corsair was peachy at 1.8 but I also ran that at 2.1 too.

Anyway, My corair was giving me an 18 Second 1MB SuperPI, and I have not yet managed to hit this with the Geil... Best I have had is 19 Seconds and in fact, its usually 21-23 and this is all over the place too much to be "Just timing".

Im currently on 430FSB and its passing all tests Im throwing at it here, and I am going to take it a notch further tomorrow, and hopefully I will have a dual xmas pressie in that I want to get 3.2 and stable of course, but also the missus has got me another pair of GEIL ( I just hope its the very same as this stuff ), although I was really wishing that she got me Corsair.

I know I would rather have better results at 400FSB than Im getting now at 430 thats for sure.

To be honest, the difference is really not all that much anyway for me.

Well i think I am stable now at 415fps. Ill have a go taking it to 430, but I know 440 gives me errors on Orthos when the ram is being tested with the CPU.

new ds3 owner and overclocker

hello all,

im a proud owner of a ds3 board and e6300 and also a proud new member of ocuk :) . i have the revison 2 board that comes with f7 bios and i've had it for about 4 days since its arrival. i've read almost all of this thread and the beginners oc guide but i still have some questions and concerns. Here is my basic setup:

ds3 with f7 bios
e6300
2gb g.skill pc2-6400 (f2-6400cl5d-2gbnq)

so far i've oc'ed through the bios to 2002mhz with 286fsb. i've set my mem timings to 5,5,5,[email protected] and the processor at 1.352v, i thnk... My temperatures according to TAT are 56-58c(stock heatsinkfan) when i run orthos and seems to idle around 48ish afterwards. i was afraid of going any futher so i stopped there and decided to post. isnt this temp unusally high? do you think i should wait longer to see if temps lower because of the new paste curing? is my memory hindering my oc? i've seen people on here with gskill but i dont think it was the same type. thanks.

hmm i had more questions but i can't seem to remember them now.. doh

*i remembered one... my system mem multiplier is set to 2.66. should it be at 2? it used to be on auto before ocing. would this effect temps?

riiya, use memtest86 to test the ram, try 420, 425 etc etc until you find its breaking point. the geil 6400 isnt very good for a lot of ppl like myself, i got a refund and got this team ram. gskill is also very good:)

Maybe consider the Asus P5B. I've seen people hitting 500 on the FSB - not that that would matter if you're using a P4.

Yeah, just somethign cheap probably, but will let me take the P4 to 266.

Im really new to Intels you see, and all my AMDs have been NForce for the last... Well, since the NF2 chipset came out.

Ok thanks.

Tbh the stock cooler is pretty useless once you start to overclock. Try to keep it under 60c under load. You could try reseating the cooler to see if it helps, but I'd replace it if you're wanting to get the most out of your e6300.

Yes, the Artic Freezer is very popular, and with good reason too!

I got one on my P4 and the conroe, and again, with my AMD64's too!
