Official Gigabyte DS3 Owners Thread

Apparently, it's supposed to be OK. Or you can actually get 20-pin to 24-pin adaptors.

Personally, it didn't work for me so I bought a new PSU.
It did work!
Wont boot into my old windows install though :(
And not enough space on the drive to back up so i may have to do a fresh install.

Im still on F7 BIOS.

Rocksteady stable at 480FSB on 4x512MB Geil 6400

Funny thing really cos 4x512MB sticks are supposed to be less stable and clockable than 2x1GB, yet here I am holding well at 480

Only issues I do have are that NFS range of games kept crashing.
So does HL2:e1 yet HL2 vanilla plays fine?

Hi
Just putting my build together and have hit a snag
I have just connected the lead from my power supply,Hiper modular 580,and it fits BUT its 2 rows too short for the connector on the ds3.Is this ok? Or do i need to replace the psu  ??
Cheers

I've never seen an ATX 1.x Hiper Modular PSU. On the 20-pin cable - isn't there a detatchable 4-pin bit as well to make up the full 24 pins? There should be.

I can't overclock with the F9 bios. I turn all of the intel gunk off and set my voltages, then ram to 400mhz. It just won't stick. If I get into windows and reboot it does a reboot cycle 4 times then comes on - or it does a turn on - off cycle 5 times and comes on without overclock.

I WAS running at 2.8ghz (400*7). The thing is the bios fixes my Xfi issue and I don't know if I should risk changing to F8/F10 and having more problems OR it totally screwing my system.

Did you change the RAM:CPU speed setting as by default it would overclock your RAM too much I think.

Has anyone else noticed at 400 + the northbride heatsink is very hot i was a 430 and burnt my finger on it so backed it down to 400

My ram and CPU is running 1:1 and my ram's DDR6400 (geil 800mhz). I'm running at 380 now. When I reboot it goes into a reboot cycle, when I turn it of it goes into a on - off cycle then comes on with CPU at stock but other changes are left in tact.

I would recommend a case fan blowing over the motherboard to help keep the NB, ram etc cool :)

Yeah, I have had this weird 2x60mm cooler thingy that mounts with the SLOTs and blows onto the cards... Not the type that takes up a PCI slot, but one that mounts sideways.

I have mounted it to it blows onto both the top of the GFX Card, but also the NB too!

Glad I did, cos the NB even after thrashing the system, is stone cold.

Probably goes along way to explain how I am able to clock as well as I am doing.

Hi there is a 4 pin bit on a connecting cable which i have plugged into the 12 v{?} connector beside the cpu.It all works but fails to boot into xp.

After a clean install or have you swapped the board and using an older install of XP?

On both my hipers, the main ATX connector is a 20Pin job. The extra 4 pins kind of slot in along with the 20Pin connector, there is also a standard 4Pin connector as well.

Make sure these are not mixed up... There is a small notch on the side of the 4 pin connector that fits in with the 20 pin one, and the other 4 pin connector clips into the motherboard - different connections different clicky bits on them.

Not a clean install. Was hoping to get by without it.

Fatrakoon
So i should connect the 4 pin plug alongside the power connector? And then another 4 pin plug in the 12v socket on the motherboard to the right of the cpu?

On mine I do yes.
You should have one of the 4-pin connectors on its own, while the one that makes the 20 into a 24 should be on the same bunch of wires coming from the PSU, and only splits from it a few inches from the connectors.

I dare say each PSU is different but thats how it is on my 480 and 520

Same as mine.
Thanks for the advice

You know thats my story.... Would love to know how to fix it

Might have to downgrade to F7. Having to reboot the computer twice per reboot (to fix x-fi) is better than losing 1.4ghz of speed
