Official Gigabyte DS3 Owners Thread

That's a great overclock. I went to the F9 BIOS and got all the problems you guys have had with the resetting. Whenever I switch it on I never know if it will be going through the cycle of on and off's or whether it will boot.

I'm off to find BIOS v10.

Updated: Installed F10 BIOS, much smoother booting up process! Going to try and get past 2.9Ghz now!

I noticed there is a new option for memory faster than 1000Mhz, two options that you can switch between - I guess I don't need this though.

Updated: Well trying to go above an FSB of 420 just won't work for me even with F10 BIOS. The system just won't boot with an FSB of 425 or 430, but works fine at 420x7=[email protected].

At 401+ you are overclocking the RAM, have you put the RAM voltage up as well...it might be that thats crapping out. Mines set at +0.3v (2.1v)

My DS3 board won't work at all if I fasten my Tuniq Tower to it all the way, I have to loosen it to the extent where I get higher temperatures, anyone else ever gotten this? Does it mean I have a faulty board or am I just not supposed to fasten the Tuniq Tower all the way...

Did not realise there was a F10 bios out. Are there any gains to be had with the F10 bios?

This is my view of events...

F4 - Came with motherboard, had graphics problems, try to update bios
F7 - Still graphics problem, swap graphics...Put 3.22Ghz overclock in....Get X-Fi sound card, incompatible as it wont detect it half the time. update bios again
F9 - Fixes X-Fi, week later my overclock resets, cant get it back....at all
F10 - Overclock back...up to 3.3Ghz now

(edit) 3.3ghz fail orthis after 10 mins

The CPU cooler can only cool the CPU down to a few degrees above ambient, so if you have turned the heating off or the weather has changed it can have a marked effect on CPU temperature. Also - if you have *** CPU fan set to PWM it may be letting it fluctuate a bit more depending on load.

Doesn't matter so long as it's not a monster fan. Big, powerful fans should only be driven off the PSU directly.

Thanks, i have another question :(.

I have a tuniq tower cooling my e6300, my idle temps are 44/35 and my load temps when stressed are 46/54. Fans are on Legacy and PVM and i have a thermaltake kandalf case. The e6300 is clocked to 2.94 ghz @ 420 fsb & 1.45 V. I'm thinking i applied the thermal paste wrong or something ? Thanks again

how tight you fastened your tuniq tower? are the notches on the screws still visible or do they go below the motherboard

think they are just slightly visible by like a mm, i guess i should tighten fully, will do it now thanks.

Got it here, looks like I have to take the side off :(

Anyone know how to do this through software?

Does it have firewire? No? - it's a Rev 1.0 board. I'm almost certain that the Rev 2.0 boards are not out yet.

i was wondering because if i try to fasten mine all the way the motherboard just wont boot

Oops. I just ordered a GA-965G-DS3. I wasnt looking properly. Apparently these ones are rubbish overclockers :o

Well phone/e-mail and change/cancel the order then. Don't take a second rate board when you can have a good one!
