Official Gigabyte DS3 Owners Thread

Had the board for about a week got a artic cooler freezer 7 today. For some reason with smart fan turned on the fan barely moves, often stopping entirely. I turned smart fan off in the bios going at 1750-1800 RPM now (Speedfan says its turning at anywhere between 80000-120000rpm lol). Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else?

*turned smart fan on again, seems to boot up at 380rpm. I hope thats alright*

It's normal - there's an explanation in the FAQ on the Gigabyte website, apparently.

super. running 34 idle 40 ish under load according to Intel TAT. That is of course only 2 hrs after putting it on.

another quick one hopefully :p

in the "PC Health Status" page, its saying DDR18V FAIL

when its a brand new PSU and i'm sure its got plenty of power :)

anything to be concerned about?

EDIT - - -

did a little search *shoulda done it before really, duh* and found its not a problem at all, its just becasue i'm running at +0.4

Hi all, sad to say my second DS3 has died after only six hours of use :(

My first DS3 was dead as a dodo, took it back to OCUK yesterday and got a replacement. That worked.. so I built my nice new C2D rig with 2gb of Geil 6400 ram, 8800GTS and Tuniq Tower but after six hours my screen blurred and died.. now the PC wont boot properly. Fans and disks spin up and theres and the keyboard leds are on even after the PC is powered off.

Now, as I have a Tuniq Tower Im royally screwed as you have to stick the mounting plate onto the back of the motherboard to install it.. I had to buy a second Tower to use with my replacement mobo as OCUK said Gigabyte would refuse to take back the first DS3 if we removed the plate.

So now Im onto my second RMA.. I have two Tuniq towers that are now useless without the mounting plates and no faith whatsoever in Gigabyte and their DS3... can anyone tell me what problem I have or is it just bad karma??

Surely you could request replacement mounting plates from Tuniq and explain the situation? The worst case is they charge you a small fee...but at least you would have two complete coolers then?

2 DS3's dying is quite frightening really. You either have buggered them both up yourself without realising or you got very, very unlucky

Ive dropped an email to Tuniq to see what they say..

But yeah.. Im pretty sure Im doing nothing wrong.. the 'Tower was mounted firm but wasnt crushing the board.. Everything was totally sweet for a few hours and then it kicked the bucket! Its like my PC had done all the hard part (had to build OEM XP MCE 2k5 from scratch), I had installed all the drivers, updated the DS3 bios via internet upgrade using @BIOS to V10, rebooted load of times, had no errors, all devices in Device Manager were working.. I was just surfing happily after the build and it went south!!

Cooling couldnt have been a factor as it was idling around 40c when running Intel TAT.. I have no idea whats going on!

Sounds very strange mate.....put it this way, it is irritating, but you're not going to lose any £££

I'm very sorry to hear that.

Very odd symptoms - the screen going blurry etc. I don't suppose you have any spares you could try to test it with?

I think the first thing you need to do is to establish your position with OcUK. They have sold you two motherboards that have failed. In each case you have basically used up a one-time part from another component they sold you. I would ask them (extremely politely) to exchange the Tuniq for another one as it wasn't your fault the first one was wrecked and they surely can't expect you to shell out £34 every time you buy a dud motherboard from them.

If they won't do this, then I certainly wouldn't buy another Tuniq Tower as you will soon have been able to buy a water-cooling system for the amount you are spending.

Then, when you get the new parts home set the computer up on a table. Put the motherboard on the box it came in, with the antistatic bag between the motherboard and the box. Then run the bare system for a few hours until you are happy with it. Don't overclock it, just install windows and let it run for a few hours - overnight is good. Once you are happy the system is OK, then put it in the case.

It is highly unlikely you are damaging the motherboard by something you are doing, but it is possible, so make sure you read up about anti-static and grounding yourself before you start.

Good luck!

Surely he's already lost £34 for a new Tuniq Tower?

Im hopeing that I can sell the spare 'Tower on a very well known internet auction site ;) to any potential AMD buyers, and maybe everyone if I can get the backplates seperately from Tuniq.

I hope that its just a very bad batch of DS3s that OCUK have had in.. Im very down about this motherboard saga as Ive spent a lot of dosh on my new rig and did my homework first by using handy threads like this one to plan what hardware to use.

Its really frustrating because for the time it did work it was probably the best mobo Ive ever used!!

Chaps, going slightly OT (for which I apologise) but has anyone been able to send motherboards of one type back to OCUK, change to a different make/model and been able to pay any difference?

Ive just seen the specs for the Asus P5N-E and thats got two IDE sockets... maybe I didnt do my homework like I said above.. :(

Cheers for any thoughts.

i took the back plate off, then managed to clean all of the sticky stuff off of the motherboard. and then replace te motherboard :D

still using the back plate via some good old fashioned ghetto modding, 2 sheets of anti static plastic and some padding :D

means the entire back plate is shielded from the motherboard too.

go me :D

Do you know what SidewinderINC, funny you should mention shielding the motherboard.. Ive just read that some DS3s have actually shorted out because of the 'Tower's backplate.. Im wondering if that's what happened with mine...

yup, thats why ive done it and i'm also going to do it between the backplate and the case! because i couldnt get my rig to boot when it was in my case so i ordered a new one from OCUK on wednesday evening so it should be here today... but no confirmation email at all :(
