Temp 54/51 idle
Vcore 1.3687V
Didn't past orthos-stoped after 2s :(
My Corsair Dominator 6400 C4D at 2.1V
FSB overvoltage 0.2V
Can't find stress.txt file to see hardware failure.

This is loopy

e6400 at stock voltage (1.232v) running at 3.2ghz (400 fsb) 36C at idle. Haven't stressed at this speed did 3hrs at 2.7ghz with 2 copies of sp2004.
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 running at default timings 1:1 split.

Will stress tomorrow. Pretty sure I can go further though. Not bad for a novice :D

Well, what's the maximum on the board? Why would the manufacturers build in a setting that was unsafe?

Yes, you could damage the processor, or the RAM, but you can't damage the motherboard though. Think about it. You must be able to use all the available options on the motherboard or they couldn't give you a warranty.

They can by-pass that warranty though?

I know with both my x800GTO2 cards, there is an overclocking util ( as have many cards these days ) and also instructions on how to flash them to 850!!!

However, there is also a note saying that overclocking and flashing will invalidate the warranty.

I dont see why it would be any different with a motherboard in this respect, however, yes, you are quite correct in that though! - I mean, if it can go to 2v then surely it must be safe...

Or at least safe enough for them to honour the warranty surely?

Off the top of my head it goes upto +0.3v? I would say that is fine if you have a fan blowing over the board - memory/chipset/etc.
 
What you have to remember about NB voltages is that in the enthusiast area, in order to make a mobo popular it needs voltages that will cater for people using uprated or active cooling on the NB and possibly the mosfets and SB or even watercooling on the NB

How many people here use water on the NB? Probably quite a few

So yes, it is a safe voltage, but no, not necassarily with stock cooling.

I would recommend some sort of blower even on stock volts as at high fsb's the nb cooler is hot enough to burn flesh.

Trust me :rolleyes: I wonder how hot the NB cooler is at 466 fsb? Ouch! :mad:

I'm running at +.2 with a honking big fan over the nb btw
 
Aint that the truth!

Im using a pair of 60mm's blowing over the GFX and onto the NB ( Stock heatsink ).

Its a tad whinny, and I may quieten it down a little but since its hardly noticeable, I might not bother. I only know its there cos the system is otherwise silent.

60mm will be quite loud to get a reasonable air movement from them. Could you get a 92 or 120mm fan over it? If you reduce them to 5 or 6v they are silent but still cover a good area.
 
yer i used a zalman f1 70cfm 120mm with a zalman bracket ghetto modded onto the side of the case works well its no longer burning hot which is was on at stock.

it will indeed burn flesh :P

Yeah, I know, but as I said, while it was temporary at first, the noise isnt as much as youd think, and so I have just never got round to doing anything better, because even though you can hear it, its still very quiet enough to not notice.

Im definitely going to change it, but Im in no rush.

The HeatSink is stone cold now because of it, the graphics card is also stone cold too when previously, that was also leaning towards the temperatures of the sun, so its realyl giving me ultimate cooling right now with very minimal noise.

Actually on a side-note about the Gigabyte DS3-P

You must all have noticed this, but I ahve not seen anyone yet mention it...

They make a big deal about having solid state capacitors, allowing for extreme overclocking blah blah, and yet they put one of the most useless piles of junk to keep the NB so bloody well hot!?!??!??!

What the hell were they thinking of when they chose that?

I mean... If the HS gets that hot, just how hot is the Chip itself???

I think with the price that the DS3 is... Ok, its gone down a bit since I bought both of mine, but still... Surely a good HS/Fan isnt that much to ask is it?

Its not really good enough for stock, never mind a tweak or two.

i'm running +.1 at the moment, and at 450fsb and i can happily keep my fingers on the nb as its not hot at all :)

and i can keep them there for as long as i like

NB even at stock volts is to hot to hold the finger for longer then 10seconds. I fitted NB with small fan( around 40mm) from my old Sapphire 9600XT.
I have Arctic freezer7PRO so there is no room for bigger than 40mm fan. But with +0.2V and 460MHz during 3D Mark05 on NB the heatsink was only a little bit warm.
Is there any soft to monitor NB temperature?
 
Sorry to butt in here guys, but I have a quick question as I have a DS3 on it's way to me as I type.

I have 1 SATA HDD (Not SATAII) which socket do I plug it into, the yellow or purple one? and will it be detected ok, or do I have to install a driver for it first? considering I will not be using RAID.

My CD/RW is IDE, will there be a problem with the mobo detecting that, as the driver disc supplied with the mobo is in cd form.
