Official Gigabyte DS3 Owners Thread

Using F7 BIOS

Cant see a reason why I would want to use any higher when people seem to have issues all the time.

I have 4x512MB Geil 6400ULL, running at a nice 3.4Ghz on stock volts... Ah, no, Im at 1.35 sorry... I was messing about again last night. It does 3.0 on stock just fine.

What else?

Nothing I have not already said.

On stock volts, RAM @ +0.3, FSB @ 430, it primes for 2weeks and 4 days 24/7 stable... Would have gone higher, but I have just changed the settings, and so far, its been priming since just after 11 last night.

If you have issues then why not try the F7 BIOS?

what bios version are folks finding best for clocking? im at 2.9 on f10 and no matter what i do things seem unstable above that.

specd e6300, ds3, 2gig g.skill pk 6400, vcore is 1.4 any higher and my temps rocket.

suggestions?
F7 was definitely best for me. F10 hasn't been bad though.

as a matter of interest what are the E4300 users getting in regards to temps at idle and load? I think mind are a tad high, even with a Scythe Infinity!

Im idling at 40 through TAT and then with one CPU on full workload im getting 65-70

TAT reports 32c idle and 55-60 under full worload. This is at 3.2 (355x9) and 1.4 vcore with an arctic cooling freezer 7 pro.

Maybe you need to reseat the scythe, or get better air cooling through your case?

i'm on F7 as well btw. Don't really see any reason to upgrade if peeps are having loas of problems either.

Even at stock volts and 1.8GHz im getting 40-44 idle but 52-54 on load with TAT, surely that cant be right?

Stock voltage is 1.2v isnt it?

The importance of a good case, not just the HSF, cannot be stressed enough!

Perfect Example:

ATI x700 in a Fuji case, kept failing, bringing up atrefacts etc and eventually I was asked to change it. I chucked the card into one of my cases, and so far, after several weeks, its been running just fine.

Right for some reason the DS3 seems to think stock voltages are 1.3v so ive lowered them to 1.2v and im idling at 38-42 and load is 46-50 which is a tad better. Thats at 2.1GHz still at 1.2v

I've got a lanboy with a front and rear 120mm plus the Scythe 120mm fan. Might put an 80mm in the side or something to see if that makes a difference.

Yep, I suppose cases are important. I've got an antec 900. It put the temps in my old system down by 10-15c across all the components. Like I said, at stock, the cpu was being pasively cooled.

After much hassle, I gave up and RMA'd my x-fi ;) But now I have another problem. I've been using speedfan to control the fan on my Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 pro, and for some reason it wont control it anymore. Have tried changing bios settings from legacy pwm to intel QST, but still nothing. Am I doing something wrong?

Hi guys, i am awaiting the delivery of my new PC(well the parts that make up a pc :) )

Here is the specs

DS3
C2 E6400
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit CAS 4-4-4-12
Scythe Ninja cooler
8800gts 320mb

I am going to try and build it myself for the first time.
Im pretty stupid though and most of these terms are going over my head
My question is, when i am building the PC do i need anything for the DS3 like a BIOS update(dont know what that is but it seems to get mentioned a lot)
Or can i just fit everything up install windows and then its done?
Would i have to change settings for my memory or other things in the mother board settings screen?

P.s. i do plan to overclock a wee bit after a week or so of the PC running stable so would i need extra things to do that?

No, its very much like LEGO.

My son for example was 5 years old when he build his first PC ( AMD K6 ) and after I checked it out, I was happy, he was happy and it started up first time!!!

Its very much easier these days as you dont have to set the Multi/FSB/VOLTS anymore, you just throw it together.

BIOS update? - No, it only needs a BIOS update if some things dont work as they should... At stock it should be ok.

There was an issue where the DS3 was not really compatible with the Conroe CPUs but thats all sorted now... It should go in just fine.

The RAM really likes 2.1v and the Board will default to 1.8v so hopefully it will let you into the BIOS ( Pressing DEL when you start it up, or just after you switch it on ) and then you need to add +0.3v to the RAM volts.

Apart from that mate, it should all go in and start up just fine!

Thanks for the advice mate.
(takes note down ,put motherboard to 2.1v and add +0.3v to the RAM volts)

Any other general advice you would give for a "noob" assembling this system?

If you have the PSU installed leave the it plugged in but not turned on at the mains. That way the case is earthed. So if you handle any parts whilst touching the case you won't short anything out. Unless you have a anti static wrist band already.

I can't really talk as i never do anything of the sort and Im kneeling on the carpet :D

Thanks man. It should arrive this afternoon some time :)

I have been reading over as much stuff as i can about building a pc, particuarly www.mysuperpc.com and this page about the first boot up
http://www.mysuperpc.com/build/pc_first_boot.shtml

It says up untill that point i should have installed everything except the DVD RW and the hard drive. then on the first boot i should go into the BIOS and tell it to
"Load Fail-Safe Defaults", then power off and go install DVD RW and hard drive.

Could you tell me if that is the right thing for me to do. it seems that guide is a couple of years old and for a different set of components so i was thinking maybe it would not be the same for me ?

Thanks guys , i got it built and am installing windows on it as we speak :)
Thanks for your help, i also made a thread in general hardware that was to do with building and not just the DS3 since i never wanted to clutter this thread with my mindless babble. :D

However i do have a question now about the DS3 bios
I normally use a logitech usb mouse and i seen a setting in the bios that read " enable usb mouse" something or other, so would i have to enable these settings in order to use a standard usb mouse ?

No, its more for DOS mode really.

Once in Windows, the USB keyboard and Mouse wil work regardless, but its to enable LEGACY support... Kind of making the things work even without any drivers.
