Official Gigabyte DS3 Owners Thread

Just got hold of a new E6600 chip to try out. My old one wasn't great and could only manage 3.4-3.5 as one core wasn't good. Hopefully this will be a better OCer. My old one was one of the first batches in the UK.

Results tonight as I test/bench :)

All working okay. Took a photo of a new bios options, which I'll post tomorrow when I have time. It looks like some fail safe backup memory config or similar. Could stop help having to clear bios on a bad overclock maybe?

Has anyone else noticed at 400 + the northbride heatsink is very hot i was a 430 and burnt my finger on it so backed it down to 400
I would recommend a case fan blowing over the motherboard to help keep the NB, ram etc cool :)

Hi there is a 4 pin bit on a connecting cable which i have plugged into the 12 v{?} connector beside the cpu.It all works but fails to boot into xp.
After a clean install or have you swapped the board and using an older install of XP?

Testing with this new 6600.. I get the same sort of results overclocking wise.. hit about 3.4-3.5 and it's unstable. Tried upto 1.5v which should be plenty :( Could be the DS3 I guess

i've read somewhere that the 4mb cache c2d's (like the e6600) clocks better with the intel 975 chipsets which the ds3 is not (its a 965).
I don't see why that would be though? Got any more info at all?

I think this may be to do with the fact that the P965 chipset seems to clock to a higher FSB and so is better for the CPU with lower multi - nothing to do with cache size.
Ah right ok. However I'm not hitting 400 yet others are 400-450 on same board I thought?

Going to try removing the soundcard + firewire card incase they are holding back the FSB.

quick question, in the bios when you change the voltages around, is the "System voltages NOT optimised" flag meant to keep flashing as long as any voltages are manually selected?
Just one of those things. I think they want noobs to do auto, so to not fry it :)

Chaps, going slightly OT (for which I apologise) but has anyone been able to send motherboards of one type back to OCUK, change to a different make/model and been able to pay any difference?

Ive just seen the specs for the Asus P5N-E and thats got two IDE sockets... maybe I didnt do my homework like I said above.. :(

Cheers for any thoughts.
I don't know but could be worth sending them an webnote asking :)

what is the highest safe voltage to be giving the northbridge?
Off the top of my head it goes upto +0.3v? I would say that is fine if you have a fan blowing over the board - memory/chipset/etc.

Im using a pair of 60mm's blowing over the GFX and onto the NB ( Stock heatsink ).
60mm will be quite loud to get a reasonable air movement from them. Could you get a 92 or 120mm fan over it? If you reduce them to 5 or 6v they are silent but still cover a good area.
