**Official Gigabyte Z87X-OC Discussion Thread**

Look at the ends of the pins, they are shaped, some are square and some have angles.

This prevents you from plugging them in wrong.

I haven't got my board yet (buying next week) but have been wondering, do you connect both the 8-pin and 4-pin or just the 8-pin?

I use the 24pin and 8pin, but you can use the 24pin and 4pin or even have them all filled, the 4pin is there to provide extra power when overclocking but its not needed. Many huge overclocks have been done with just the 24pin and 8pin.

Thanks, I'll use 24-pin and 8-pin, doubt I'll need the extra power :).

Just tried refitting them in my new 750D case, went in first time. I must have not had them quite lined up because it was such a squeeze to get to them in my old case as the heatsink was blocking my path. thanks for the help. Now running 24pin and 8pin

Heads up guys, new GIGABYTE Z87X-OC X08 bios. I havent had a chance to test yet but figured there would be a few in the need for this weekend bench for HWBOT Feel The Force Competition.

The bios has a couple of useful modes you should try using, one is called "Extreme Speed" (self explanatory) and the other which was existent before is memory "Fast Boot" mode. Fast boot mode when enabled essentially does not change any timings you set or train memory. Makes it easier to bench RAM subzero once you have the right timings!

Hi Stulid,

Have loaded the x08, but cant see the extreme speed option lol
None so blind as those that cannot see, where is it please?

Also trying to fine tune my overclock and reduce temps and voltages for a given clock. Currently at 4.7Ghz at 1.32V and Vring of 1.940v. which is best to try and reduce until it falls over, vring or vcore or both?

Mark

Ive never used occt, keep CPU-Z open and run the AIDA stability test (not full screen so you can still see CPU-Z) and trust that instead.

Hey

I have a question about z87x-oc.
If I run my rig on air only, are those fans on motherboard going to spin or do they work with watercooling only?
Is this mobo good for air cooling?
And why I want to air cool it: I had a small leak in my rig yesterday but scared the hell out of me as it was on one of cpu block fittings. Nothing was damaged, lucky me, but I decided to go back to air.
Bought a corsair 540 case and Prolimatech Megahalems heatsink so hope its going to work well - still looking at this mothwrboard tho, so appreciate if anyone can answer mt questions.

Cheers

The Z87X-OC has no fans on the board, think you referring to the OC Force?

Ah yes sorry.
Thought its the same board.
So my question was about OC Force :-)

And I checked the other board as well.
Is it actually worth paying 200£ more for Force version?
