**Official Gigabyte Z87X-OC Discussion Thread**

guys "X" bioses are specifically developed for extreme overclocking. I suggest you revert to standard bios or whatever worked best if you are experiencing an issue with your daily rig on one of these (if you choose to use them)

I cannot start troubleshooting possible issues with standard rigs on X bioses or my bios team will not do these types of bioses any more due to extreme OC requirements. X08 was specifically developed in mind for liquid nitrogen cooled memory, cpu and pch for maximum memory frequency OC for Feel The Force competition on HWBOT

The other suggestion i have is not to flash bioses to experiment with them unless they solve a specific problem you may be experiencing. I flash bioses a lot because I test them but on my daily rig I do not touch it at all as it all works as it should. Bios flashes can sometimes go bad and not flash all the blocks properly depending on how you flash bios files and sometimes that causes people not to have 100% functionality either due to bad drive, sectors, flash procedure, type of flashing method used etc.

your pretty much covered if you flash through qflash and with dual bios chips tbh,its not hard to recover a borked flash nowadays

I just asked my boards new owner, the last BIOS I used was X02 as its still on there.

Stulid and Dinos,

Thanks for the help and advice guys - much appreciated. I have reverted to version XO2 and working fine, so I think I will stick with this version for now.

It is safe for air cooling too, it just has more options and less limits.

I used it on air for ages.

Ok thanks, i'm under water at the moment (well not literally, that would be bad :)), will try it tonight see if I can get some good clocks out of it. Fantastic mobo though!

Hi,

I've been having boot loop problems since I bought my Haswell system with the Gigabyte Z87x-OC.

Advised it might be the PSU so I replaced it and still the same problem.

After some more hair pulling I decided to replace the RAM (Corsair CMY16GX3M2A1866C9B) with a pair of 2GB sticks from my old i7 system (TR3X6G1333C9). My system has booted up every time without the boot loop.

I was hoping if someone could help me with a diagnosis.

Is it.
Bad RAM?
Motherboard having problems with newer RAM (XMP etc. Have tried switching this off but the same problem)

PS.
Please note I did use this RAM when I had my old PSU and the problem still existed.

Thanks

As long as its a good PSU and also not one of the AX760i or 860i units from Corsair (these two don't like the board) then it is probably the RAM.

Have you got one of the latest BIOSes on it? (use QFlash within the BIOS to do the flash)

The original was a Corsair 860 - not the 'i' version. Don't think it was a known problem unit but I replaced it with a Seasonic 760w anyway.

I believe I do have the latest bios versions - F6.

My old RAM works perfectly. Should I RMA the ram?

Yes, RMA the RAM.

But just before you do, please try one of the X BIOS (I used X02 and loved it).

You will find the link to Tweaktown where the BIOS is in the first post of this thread:)

Hi guys,

I'm currently on an MPower and thinking about building a test bench which will mean a new mobo. At the moment everything's under water but i have the intention to try my hand with phase in the not to distant future.

Plus points for me with the mpower are the simplistic bios which i find quite useful for easy navigation and isn't overloaded with features that aren't needed at my current level of ability! Build quality seems to be spot on, OC'ing on it is a non issue, forum support might not be the best but any bios bugs are normally dealt with quite quickly.

Probably enough said about MSI considering the nature of this thread! Thought i'd put these points across to see what your thoughts are on the OC in it's own right and maybe compared to the MPmax if any of you have had experience of both.

One question with regards to features which i'm sure the manual will provide the answer to, can you downclock the core on the fly, aka ASUS slow mode?

You can use the ratio± buttons on the board to increase and decrease the CPU ratio on the fly or use the LN2 switch will will force the multiplier too (im not 100% sure here) 8X no matter what the CPU ratio/Turbo ratios are set to in the BIOS.

Yes, RMA the RAM.

Not a RAM issue - swapped with 16GB DDR3 from my server and same issues. Any ideas? Could it be anything else other than motherboard?

hi,im thinking of trying windows 8.1,are the links to the various apps utilities on page 1 compatible with W8.1?
i know some of them wont be,ill manually look for them, but the links that automatically d/l the files you need should be ok for 8.1 i think ?
thanks in advance

No, once it is in a boot loop it does not go into OS until I unplug and then boot up.

The last code displayed on the motherboard is "d6" before it powers off then back on again. It can then power off and then power on much earlier in the process (before it reaches "d6").

And it still works fine with the older RAM?

Hmmm,

Can you disable the dual BIOS (theres a switch for it) and then see if it still does it.
