Reference design GTX 560 Ti had a much better heatsink than this for a £180 card, it was like a smaller MSI cyclone cooler.

I can't take anyone that recommends the rubbish reference design seriously, that thing is absolutely not staying under 70 degrees in heaven when overclocked.

Jesus Christ, chill the **** out on your reference card rants, we get it.
 
1229 is my original boost without any OC with temp below 70C .
1215 when 70 C -79C , and 1205 when 79 C or more.
When fan speed sat at 60% max temp I am getting is 68 C.

That's really good then, just keep the fan on 60% which is silent on mine.

At 60% fan speed I was still getting 71 degrees, and reduced from 1215 to 1202 at stock settings which nearly made want to have the card swapped to a gigabyte, but I managed to fix it :)
 
That's rather hilarious actually, GPU overvoltage on 'Nvidia reference thermal design' :D. Very funny joke.

I just read the headline originally.
I wouldn't be surprised if they did release a card with actual voltage control, which is why I blindly said they were without actually reading the article.
 
Even non reference cards can suffer from the now confirmed stutter issue though, so its not stuttering due to throttling from what im reading. Perhaps nvidia have rushed their drivers too, like AMD did with their crossfire drivers.

Surely voltage on the 680/670 cards can be pencil modded?

What is annoying me in my card is that I can hear whistling at low fans speed.
My PC is very quiet so maybe that why, no idea.I was wondering about Gigabyte or Asus DCII- but I'm not sure is it worth to change as no fans are audible and complete silence.

What boost Gigabyte has then out of the box?
 
Gigabyte has an 1189 boost out of the box, KFA2 normally 1215, and the Asus non top is reference speed 1087.

The gigabyte will easily OC to at least 1250 Mhz too though. As long as you can keep the card well below 69 degrees at 1200+ Mhz, that's all that matters.
 
1268Mhz at 59 degrees with my fans on 50% and I get the driver not responding error, I go to keep it around 1250Mhz and knock up my memory frequency and as soon as I touch that my core drops to 1189Mhz :\

I initially though boost clock was a cool feature but now I'm getting frustrated with it, I could tell it to draw a circle and it would draw a triangle. What I tell the card to do and what the card does is a totally different thing.

Oh and this is whilst MSI Afterburner is reporting only 75% - 80% TDP :| I don't understand, give me a 7970 now lol.

Edit 2: seriously what the hell is with this card, it is completing ignoring any clock changes and is sticking solid to its 1189Mhz boost clock, I have noticed it will drop from 1189Mhz to 1175Mhz as soon as it hits 70 degrees. Going to throw this card out the window soon, 66 degrees and it refuses to go above 1189Mhz.

KFA2 EX OC, starting to give up on this card big time. It's a great card if you don't touch it and yeh it is working as intended... but I don't like things that have a mind of their own. It just completely ignores what I ask it to do. I'm frustrated that it seems to throttle itself at low temperatures, it is plain retarded.

A little bit shocked by Gibbos statement on the card reviews where he said the ones with 680 PCBs can get up to 1400Mhz... haven't seen anything remotely close to that by anyone at the moment.

With my settings on my watercooled gtx 680:

+200 core and +150 memory
Temps never breached 42c and idles at 28-29c
Voltage also adjusted to 1175mv

It's the chip not the PCB that dictates the OC. Cooling helps a lot too, but mainly whether you get a good chip.

If my Galaxy Oc version hit's 1250, I'll be happy because I wont run it maxed out anyway.

Galaxy/KFA are the same brand right?

I just don't understand the reason why this boost clock means whatever settings I want it at my card just completely ignores anyway. I'm use to the card simply following my orders all the time (AMD) and this is just a whole new world where the card refuses.

I can get my card up to 1250 if I put the fan on 75% other it will throttle itself as soon as it touches 70 degrees, which to me is just plain stupid.

NVIDIA limited the voltage range to max 1.21 V by hardware, having MSB VID6 and VID7 tied to 1 and 0 by hardware (direct connect to power and ground by trace). So if you want VID more than 1.21 V, then need to cut VID6 connection to VCC and manually connect to GND. Because VID7 is already tied to GND, I just shorted those two pins together with piece of thin wire.

670 probably similar.
 
The more I read about this gpu boast and power saving features the more I'm starting to hate this card, I've started noticing a bit of stuttering in my games and I swear it's because it's polling the card all the time and changing clocks, I don't mind boost but I don't want it underclocking my card to save power.

Boxing my card up, DSR'ing it, my 570 ran fine, was a lot quieter, no stuttering, and it's core clock stayed locked at even 90c.
 
The statement on 1400 Mhz overclock was silly, the most that people are managing is around 1350 on the Gigabyte Widforce.

The KFA2 seems to cap out at around 1250 Mhz, even though it has a great PCB the chips they have don't seem to be as good as the ones that Gigabyte got for some odd reason.

If I try and set mine to 1300 Mhz, I get a screen full of artifacts and a quick driver crash. Up to 1280 Mhz is artifact free, but driver crashes after a while. 1260 is the most I can get with a lower memory overclock (1260 / 7100), or 1250 / 7300. My ram chips are really good at least, I'll have to buy some more Akasa thermal paste and stick some aluminium ramsinks that I have onto them.
 
Same card as you

I have no experience with nvidia cards since my 8800GTS 512mb. I'm coming from AMD too.
I'm starting to dislike the boost function, and I don't have my card yet.
If temperature decides how fast your card goes, this summer will suck.
Water cooling is the way to go I guess.

My friend's galaxy boost to 1310 mostly and sometimes 1330
