Official Home Gym Building Thread

I have the M3 half rack, it’s a solid bit of kit. Dip bars are good too.
The M3 half rack looks like a good option but its inexplicably (to me at least) 250£ more than the 60cm m3 option . Anyway, depending on overall budget it looks like a good option to cut down on overall space used.

It's also the depth not the width... all racks (pretty much) are the same width... in case that's what you were wondering

I am a cheapo so I have the Mirafit M210 half rack and it's a great bit of kit (but I would 100% get the M3 half or full rack if I could)

I'm back training at home, have been for a while. Changed things around a bit.

Hey LiE, sorry for the thread necro but I'm still pinning down options (its a few months before my garage will be cleared anyway so not buying the rack until November probably). I am considering the half rack just to save some space; but I really want a cable system. I've seen yours and it looks ideal but the cable systems on mirafit suggest they're not compatible with the half rack, do you know which you ended up getting?

A more general question to the knowledgeable on here: my concern is after I've built a platform to level the floor (it'll be of board but would need to be ~18mm ply to be strong enough I suspect), I'm going to have less clearance at the top. For chin ups/pull ups it wont be an issue because I can put my head between rafters, but 220cm is the most I've got, and once I've levelled the floor its obviously going to be a bit less. I think I can accommodate the 208cm rack - but should I be more realistic and take the 188cm option?

How do you all go about getting rust of your bars / dumbells?

I've been accumulating rust for a while and kept being lazy about acting on it. I bought a Nylon brush from Rogue after I saw it recommended but the rust is deep and while its taken off some of the surface layer there is much more ingrained rust to go.

If I go for a wire brush am I going to completely knacker things?

I'd look for a chemical rather than physical only approach. Quick google should give you ideas depending on whether you can dip stuff in or not. Once you "soften it up" it should be easier to brush off the remaining bits.

Hi chaps,

First time poster so please go easy. I'm looking to kit out my 3x3m space (could potentially go bigger - 3x3.5/4m if worth it).

I've heard good things about Mirafit stuff. I'm considering this power rack:

And then potentially some dumbbells - again, probably a set with stand.

I've also come across a peloton with a broken screen for 150. Is that a good deal? Are they ok bikes on their own? I have a 40" TV I intend to put in front of the bike. This'll likely be for my wife more than me.

I also like the workout rowing machines give. But this may be a squeeze?

Please...any thoughts? I'm looking to maintain current 100kg/6ft - swapping some tub for some more muscle mass and strengthen up my core. My wife will be looking to maintain weight and tone up.

Interested on thoughts on space too. Theoretically I can go much bigger - are there layouts for various sizes showing what gear is best bang per sq foot?

Edit; also, gym floor - is the Mirafit flooring tiles ok? They're 300 quid cheaper than Duramat (mainly for garages though to be fair).

Mirafit gear is top quallity. Most of my gym is kitted out with it. In terms of gear...

Get the Mirafit M3 rack over the M200. I had the M200, it's no where near as good quallity, the spotter bars are a pita. The back bar can get in the way of benches. It has no west side spacing and far less attachments.

Flooring wise, the mirafit 20mm rubber gym mats are okay, but they aren't price competitive. Call saber flooring and buy his 1x1m 15mm gym flooring. It's great stuff. I'm assuming your putting the mats on bare concrete.

Dumbells, the mirafit round ones are great as are the commercial ones they sell. I've had mine for a few years and all are in great condition. The M3 dumbell rack they do is well worth it to.

Regarding "best bang for buck gear", I reccomend starting with the basics. A rack, a bench, some dumbells, see how you get on, and add stuff that you feel is missing and you will use rather than buying stuff for the sake of it.

Regarding the peleton bike, I would just get the mirafit spin bike or air bike personally. There gear is that good and customer service is top notch.

Edit: Just to expand on the bang for buck question. For max versatility in a limited space I would have a rack, dumbells, cable machine, bench and 1 cardio machine.

Equipment I would Pick below
Mirafit M3 Rack 4 Post
Mirafit 7ft Barbell
Mirafit Olympic Bumper Plates
Bulldog Gear Zero Gap Bench
Mirafit Rubber Dumbells
Mirafit M3 Dumbell Rack
Mirafit M4 Cable Machine or ATX CPS600
Mirafit Air Bike
Saber Gym Flooring

Any questions feel free to ask.

Super helpful thank you. I am looking at this package to get going, which I'll cross-reference against your list there. I presume on the M3 the height/width is just based on your space, and bigger is better?

Not to contradict your suggestion but is this good value?
£300

The M3 package looks solid. If you look on Facebook market and ebay there are m3s for sale too, and mirafit barbells/ bumper plates if you want to save some £££.

I would pass on that M2 package above based on the reasons in my original post.

I sized my m3 package by the height of my space. Depth wise I went for 90cm, as 60 felt to shallow for me, but it is workable.
