Official Home Gym Building Thread

After the last couple of weeks working out in the gym we had some new equipment delivered and a final re-layout of the gear to make the most use of the space.

A local company built me a custom rack to store kettlebells/medicine balls/slam balls on (I am a big kettlebell fan). You can also see we put some pins up to store the bands

Next thing was to do some thing with the bars and I also got some Powerblock U90s (with stages I and II to 90lbs) - sadly Ironmasters are not readily available in Dubai and they are way better than the bowflex selectechs. You can also see the Libert Bars and parallets that the same local guy made for me

Finally here is the relaid out gym - gives some good space in front of the power rack for deadlifts or barbell complexes or body weight exercises. Even enough space if someone (the wife) wants to do Yoga or the like:

Overall really happy and its getting regularly used - in fact I have a stream of mates wanting to come over to work out!

Last thing to do is to put a mirror and some posters.

Noob question: it's ok to put the j hooks on the front bars right? If I wanted to squat with my back to the pulley? Just asking because in all the videos I've seen of the CF475, they have the j hooks on the back 2 bars.

Thinking I'll put buying a leg press on hold until I get my back sorted and see if I can squat again. I went to a commercial gym today to use their leg press, leg extension and leg curl. The leg press caused me a bit of back pain at the start, but then I pressed my lower back more into it and it was fine.
Played around a bit with their pulldown machine. I was shocked at how smooth it is. I have the one with the cf475 and it's not smooth at all. It makes a huge noise, which I don't really mind, but the extra friction is annoying

I have bought a prefabricated concrete garage ;) So I can lift in my own privacy.

It's 16ft x 8ft in 2ft sections but I'm hoping to erect it as 10ft x 14ft but I need to put a good base down over a soil floor (Back garden is just lawn grass/soil)

Anyway I fear a concrete base might not be the way to go without spending a fortune on concrete. (The idea is to keep cost low)

Does anyone have a good idea for a base? It's going to have to be strong enough to support the prefab but also take some hammer from deads and such.

Offically a home gym guy now as I just ordered a few bits, have tried various gyms around Rugby and it's near impossible to get on squat racks consistently anywhere.

So i'm clearing the garage out tomorrow in preparation for the following:

Bodymax CF375 Power Rack
Bodymax 145kg Olympic Cast Barbell Kit - has 1.25kg all the way through to 20kg weights.
Bodymax CF328 Weight Bench

Going to be used exclusively for stronglifts 5x5 for the foreseeable future.

Paid a chunk of about £200 straight up and the rest on 0% APR over 12 months. Also the monthly payments almost exactly equate what i've been paying for monthly gym fee's.

Ordered last Friday, showed as despatched Tuesday but no damn tracking info on the site. Ticket opened.

£600 of equipment, you'd think they'd let you know tracking information straight away.

How is it? I'm looking at a home gym option and this would cover all bases for me.

Currently looking at a similar package, CF475.

http://www.powerhouse-fitness.co.uk/premium-strength-package.php

any recommendations on flooring that will fit this on?

come to think of it... need to figure out if I can get this into the Man Cave.. height wise!

All being well it should be with me tomorrow night...YIPPEE!!!

Will update when it's up and running.

I think the reason I went for the CF375 over the 475 was simply the £100 price difference and also can't really see myself hitting the 180KG max capacity on the 375.

If I do hit that point it would be a long enough time it'd probably be time for an upgrade anyway ;)

Do the racks come in a flat pack so to speak? I live in a second floor flat and would need to get it up a couple flights of stairs and sharp corners lol
