Official Home Gym Building Thread

Yep. Self assembly which can be a bit of a pain either:
a) on your own
b) with low ceiling

Ah good, might be a pain but not the impossibility of getting a full rack up my narrow flights of stairs lol.

I see that there is a showroom in Nottingham, gonna go take a look and size things up at the weekend :)

So excited...15:30 today and my gear should be here. Courier said it's a straight kerbside pallet delivery but luckily it's going to an outside garage so shouldn't be too bad to get setup.

Measured the Man Cave ceiling to roof last night..

2.5 meters

CF475 comes in at 2.2 meters high.. think I'll struggle to fit it in there?

I'm obviously aware that 2.2 meters is smaller than 2.5, but just wondering if its too much of a tight squeeze.

Only if you plan to use the chin up bar (your head might get a bit close to the ceiling). I've just built one of these in a summer house with much less clearance than that and it went together fine. Needs to be built by 2 people though.

Awesome! Thanks for that. Will get ordering tonight then.

Looks nice by the way! Quite like the red :p

Only downside is getting rid of the Air Hockey table :(

EDIT: Much difference between the CF475 and CF485 packages?

That looks like the 485 i would be getting as part of the red strength package i was looking at tonight. I spoke to powerhouse and they need proof of my id as my billing address is not at this flat yet so i have to email proof off tomorrow and finish payment.

Before i do, could anyone advise me on whether that kind of setup is actually practical in a normal 'bedroom' in a second floor flat? Its a carpeted bog standard room, ceiling is high enough but just worried about setting it up on a carpeted non concrete floor?

Also this curbside pallet delivery, does it mean literally curbside or just to your door? As i am in a gated block of flats off of a main road, i cant have them dropping a pallet on the main street like that i would need it at least putting in the carpark :|

I was quoted £855 odd for the CF485 with pulley attachment, 145kg barbell set, 2 dumbbell bars wtih collars and an extra 4 5k plates, a heavy duty bench and the dip extension for the rack. Have i missed anything important to get a good home workout? I have not added any kind of floor mats to the order? Price look good or should i be looking to get more for the money?

Thanks all, pretty excited to not have to spend an hour mincing about at the gym waiting on benches :|

It is literally kerbside, got mine from Powerhouse last week. Delivery guy was kind enough to pallet truck it to back gate but he told me they're not supposed to go any further than kerb.

Also check up on the delivery problems people have had online with Powerhouse. Mine was eventually ok but was provided no tracking or courier info and had to chase it up.

Hmmm no way I can have it left on a main road :/ assume its going to take a few tryouts to carry it all in and that's about another 50m b before I get to my flat n then two flights up lol.

Might have to look elsewhere, nightmare as was c confirming it today but guess better now than after shelling out 855.

Ordered my Red Strength Package last week, had a dispatch note but nothing to track it or anything like that.

didn't know it was kerbside delivery, not that it matters much! Just concerned about it being safe there... Suppose nobody is exactly going to "Run off" with it :p

Right i keep seeing people in this thread mention ironmaster dumbbells. They are seriously expensive and i have always been wary of adjustable dumbells for pullovers etc.

As my space is severely limited and i am kind of worried about dealing with powerhouse fitness i was thinking about maybe ordering ironmaster weight+bench set for now and then when i move look to buy a rack etc.

Any opinions? Its a massive change losing a powerrack and barbell etc, will i still be able to get a 'decent' workout using just dumbbells and bench and are they safe for things like pullovers?

Thanks :)

Well.... the courier arrived this afternoon while iwas at work... thankfully he called me and told m he was outside my house..

Just told him to leave it all on the drive. thankfully I was on lunch so was able to nip back and put it in the house. that was effort though :p

Back at work now so have to wait until tonight to put it together :(

Just carry the light stuff in first :D

Only one I had a problem with was the actual cage itself

Wasn't strong enough to pick it up and walk with it! Managed to get it to the front door, but couldn't lift it again into the house, so just took everything out one by one and its now sitting on the kitchen table :D Missus will be chuffed when she gets back!

Got it all complete in the one delivery then mate?

Yeah everything came in the one delivery! from what I've heard that is a feat in itself! :p

Managed to get the Rack and the Lat/Low Row sorted last night in between watching the soccer-kick-ball. Took me ages though, Couldn't find my ratchet set :(

Just got the bench to go tonight and all done :)

Just get a mate to watch the package while you carry parts of it back your flat.
I wouldn't bother with the ironmaster dumbbells. The change time on them is about the same a pair of olympic dumbbells and those are much cheaper and you can use the plates for other equipment, unlike the ironmasters.

You won't be able to get a decent workout since you can't squat safely without a rack

Can you still bench inside the cf475/485 when they pully attachment is attached? Can the bench go far enough back?

Yeah you can... not tried it yet but there's loads of room in there. (485)

The pully attachment actually goes on the outside of the cage. so doesn't take any internal room up

I was also surprised to get everything in one from what i'd heard about Powerhouse, I also got a "free" upgrade.

I order this 145KG kit for £239 - http://www.powerhouse-fitness.co.uk/bodymax-145kg-olympic-cast-barbell-kit.php

They delivered this one...

It's a 145kg kit but it's sold @ £299 - http://www.powerhouse-fitness.co.uk...bell-kit-with-7-ft-bar-and-spring-collars.php

Can only assume it was a free upgrade for screwing me around with the delivery and lying to me about the courier messages.
