Official Home Gym Building Thread

I was also surprised to get everything in one from what i'd heard about Powerhouse, I also got a "free" upgrade.

I order this 145KG kit for £239 - http://www.powerhouse-fitness.co.uk/bodymax-145kg-olympic-cast-barbell-kit.php

They delivered this one...

It's a 145kg kit but it's sold @ £299 - http://www.powerhouse-fitness.co.uk...bell-kit-with-7-ft-bar-and-spring-collars.php

Can only assume it was a free upgrade for screwing me around with the delivery and lying to me about the courier messages.

Man thats kind of restoring my faith, 2 people recently ordering getting their stuff. I might just take the plunge, gonna re-measure my room!

Actually think their customer service was decent. Was nice the courier actually called me and asked what I wanted him to do with it as I wasn't in.

The only thing that could have been improved was adding delivery details like tracking numbers and letting me know when it was actually going to arrive. Its possible you'd get that if you upgraded the delivery though, I just went for free 5 day..

I paid for 5 days delivery, I got the same crap everyone else has. I had a CS rep confirm they offer no tracking on any larger items, only a consignment number to use when liaising with the courier.

Well i have taken the plunge and ordered it. Having no equipment at all yet i decided to try and get enough to cover a decent workout so i have ordered the red premium strength package, a couple of oly db bars with collars and 4x5kg extra plates, and the dip bars for the cf485. Reckon that should set me up nicely!

Now just to see if it arrives on tuesday as promised :|

Just perusing the website, not that I have the space or money for a home gym atm. Reviews on the CF485 say 18mm and 13mm spanners used though no mention on if they are included or not.

God i am such a tit, never occurred to me to look at reviews i just looked at the specifications. Thanks for the heads up :)

Got my stuff but a few problems with the order that i detailed in a new post in the sports forum talking about wrong bench being delivered. Would appreciate it if people could take a look at the two benches i linked and let me know which one they think is the better bench?

I can either keep the one they sent or i can have the cf430 sent out. Guy on the phone said the reason for the different bench is that its the one that is meant to be supplied with the package, the cf430 was a standin whilst the pm121 was out of stock. Now that its back in is the reason i got it.

Costs more to buy but am sure that doesnt automatically make it a better bench so any opinions from seasoned lifters would be welcomed cheers.

Aside from the dip handles and washer thing from your other thread, are you really ever going to be benching over 160kg (assuming you weigh in at 100kg, of course)?

And if you do plan on benching national/internal type weights, why are you scrimping on your gear?

I'd request the item be exchanged on principle that "it wasn't what I ordered," or accept the item for a further discount for the inconvenience. Charm and politeness goes a long way. :)

Not at all mate i am sure the weight is fine either way for me i just want safety :) The things that are giving me pause are:

1. The cf430 has the leg attachment that although not comparable to a dedicated machine may still be worth having.

2. Warranty on the cf430 is home/light commercial wheras the pm121 only lists light commercial. I dont exactly know what that means without looking it up it was just a red flag to me.

3. The cf430 has rubber feet which as this is on a carpet in my flat i thought might be a bit friendlier than the feet on the pm121 that almost look liek they would bolt down to me :P

I am only asking as i genuinely would not know which is better so will go by the opinions given here :)

I stopped reading here. Why you'd need this when you should be squatting is beyond me. ;) :D

Practically, I'd explain the situation to the suppliers and then suggest you'd be happy to accept the incorrect item at a discounted rate because of reasons 2 and 3. Don't mention #1 because this will chalk you up as a DYEL meatball. ;)

Well to be fair, the bench i was sent costs 40 quid more on their site so i doubt they would offer a discount :P

I am going to squat its why i bought the rack, i didnt know if i would need the attachment as well but apparently not eh :)

Being really picky here but as you are being so helpful, one of the safety bars' rubber layer is scratched to ****, the other looks good as new. Is that what is to be expected once a bar starts hitting it anyway? Else maybe i should be getting that replaced too. Its purely cosmetic and i know that shouldnt matter but as its a lot of money i may aswell have it all sweet in the first place :)

Cheers again man sorry for all the questions, i am the type of guy that worries about every detail unfortunately :>

Of course - you should be worried/concerned because you are a consumer who purchased something new. :)

Regarding the respective not-included/damaged bits, this is a discussion you are to have with Powerhouse or whoever supplied them:

- If the stuff is not pristine (or as near as) then there is grounds for this not being what you purchased, i.e. grounds for money back;
- from a safety standpoint, if something looks like it's been bashed, there is no telling what actually happened to it. As it's a safety bar/whatever, this is somewhat critical in my view (although I squat without safeties because I'm a boss);
- if you're unhappy with what you've received, they can't do anything unless they know about it...

Ultimately, it's your call: I would make it on the grounds of getting money off and badgering until you do. They can collect via courier (it's not what you ordered/damaged) or they can give you the money off that would have been spent on couriers if you go quietly subject to the stuff not being in a very bad state...

That's just my take on it. I don't really do the whole "internet warriorz0rz" thing very well, but that's just my take.

Yeah its only the rubber and i think i am just being a tart really caring about scratches on that. I might try and sit on it or something to make sure it can hold some weight and if it can then wont worry about it.

My g/f just got home and told me to keep the bench they sent, as she thinks it looks nicer lol. I think i will just get the dip bars replaced and maybe try my luck at getting them to throw in a cable attachment or something but wouldnt hold my breath (probably wont try as i am bad at complaining) lol.

Cheers again

This was mentioned a couple of weeks ago, but the only difference between the CF475 and CF485 is just the colour. I asked powerhouse fitness on the phone that exact question when I ordered mine. :p
