Official Home Gym Building Thread

Looking awesome, ronski - just fantastic.

Now all you need is to lift properly and stop all this 100000RM stuff. ;) :D

In thoroughly ironic news, my £43 squat rakc arrived today - I will be building it to see how it stacks up this evening.

Thanks mate and loooool

Your new squat looks unbelievable value!

So I was missing a major part in my gym and with the limited head room I wasn't able to find something that i could buy that would fit in the space I had. So I built this:

Still need to make a few adjustments, but i've been using it now for a couple of weeks, and it works fine. Being over 6ft and the garage only being 7ft, means I need to bend my knees to 90 degrees to be able to hang. But obviously head room is pretty important.

Added some Rings for dips etc, but i've also found it useful for doing exercises with bands thrown over the bar.

Total cost was a little more than i expected, at around £70 though would have been more if i'd had needed to buy, screws and a large drill bit. I probably could have used a smaller timber too which would have saved cost.

Hi guys, just joined up as this is the best UK home gym based thread I've come across, I came across it looking for advice on home equipment as I'm just finishing insulating my garden shed and boarding it out to be my gym, then I can get a bench and weights in.

Sheds 16 x 12 but hight is limited, think it was 7ft at the apex but I lost a few inches with the 50mm celotex and 11 board.

So plans are to make half the shed into my gym so 8 x 12, I want to run a pole across the apex (maybe a scaffold bar) so I can hang a heavy bag and my rings to it, these can then be slid to one side when not in use, not sure how I'm going to secure this but may copy the design in the post above or get something welded. Then have my bench etc that I can pull out to work out on. I've trained muay thai for years so a bags a must.

So can someone recommend a bench and squat rack, I don't dead lift or squat due to an old injury but need something for benching, can't fit a full rack in the shed due to hight. I'd like to add a leg attachment if poss.

Plan on getting a set of olympic weights and a 7ft barbell and pick up dumbells over time. I've looked at ironmasters but I'm not a fan of having to adjust my dumbells.

cheers

Dude... Your injury had better be epic as there is a bro on this forum who squats despite having broken his back in the past. ;) :D

In all seriousness, a CF415 and some bench of some description will be fine, as well as some rubber horse mats for the flooring. :)

Cheers mate, gonna order some kit tonight, with my back I was taken out of the gym on a stretcher, I was on my 5th rep 3rd set of deadlift lifting 250kg and something went pop. Had a mri about 5 years later (last year) and I have bulging discs, some touching nerves and my lower joint in ****ed, even doing unweighted squats can squeeze the disc and put me out of action for a week or 2 so I do other things to keep my legs strong like kicking a heavy bag over and over and over :D

cheers

Sorry to hear that, buddy!.

However... bulging discs - with the right therapy - don't necessitate tje end of a lifting career. I would go and see a sports physio. Particularly if it limits you day-to-day. :)

Had months of physio but in the end the doc booked me in for surgery, I got as far a the pre op but was told down time was 3 months with light duties after that, My work involves heavy lifting and there's no way I'd get 3 months off so it not happening anytime soon.

Plan is to focus on making my core stronger to help with the pain.

Anyways, thinking of going with this bench but not sure if the ends feet with fit under the squat rack, they look quite wide, what do you think?

gonna go with the fitness super store mats as they're 1.2m x 1.8m for £60.

was gonna go with the finance but instead applied for a 1k 0% credit card, so will be buying everything when it arrives in the post :)

Hi all

Looking for some advice on gym gear to fit in a 25sqm outhouse in my garden. I'm thinking of the following

1) Power rack & Olympic bar / weights
2) multi-gym
3) cross trainer
4) rowing machine

It'll be used daily by me and prob 3x a week by my gf. Maybe the odd use by friends and family.

I'm thinking of budgeting around £1500 per piece of equipment. Would that get me some good reliable gear? Any recommendations?

Thank you

Mike

1) I will let the other guy here recommend what is available in the UK - if you ever thought you might want to do some Olympic lifting then you might want to invest in bumper plates from the outset

2) Multi-gym - not sure why you need this if you have a power rack and Oly bar - I would recommend a good set of dumbbells and a couple of kettlebells instead

3) cross trainer - I had one for a while and ended up hating it. I recently replaced it for an air assault bike it effectively gives the same low impact overall body work out with the benefits of taking up way less space and the ability to do some serious cardio intervals and tabata on it (The bike cost me around 700 quid)

4) Rowing machine - there is only one option - Concept II model D - (with the PM5 monitor in black would be my current choice - should be around 1000 pounds)
