****OFFICIAL I7 980x HEX CORE OVERCLOCKING THREAD****

What is it??

It is using refrigeration to generate sub-zero temperatures for CPU cooling. In simple terms a cascade consists of a high stage and a low stage cooler (phase change). The high stage chills the low stage and the low stage chills the CPU.

Just about to upgrade.......

Been on the phone to James just to check any fine detail. I have to stick my old chip in to upgrade the BIOS on the UD7.

Corsair Obsidian 800D
980X + Megahalems Rev B Push/Pull
UD7
Crucial C300 256GB + Intel X25 160GB

Got mine running stable at 4.35GHz with HT on, with the Gigabyte UD7 mobo. Asus P6T Deluxe would do about 4.3GHz stable.

Can go higher with HT off (4.5GHz) but not worth the HT tradeoff imo.

Also just got two 128GB Crucial RealSSD's in RAID0  (anyone wonna buy my Intel 160GB X-25M G2's?)

Will post benches if anyone wants.

You lucky lucky people!:D:D

I can`t wait till I get mine which should be a couple of months more.

I have the money to get my new complete setup right now but i`m still waiting for some of the hardware
components that i`m interested in to come out for my new build before finally making the plunge.

Prime stable.

Intel say the safe max is 1.55V, I dread to think how much heat that would kick out though, probably need LN2. :p

It is not for this CPU and appears to be for Bloomfield (45-nm) processors. Where did you get that from?

This comes from the latest Intel® Core™ i7-900 Desktop Processor Extreme Edition Series on 32-nm Process Datasheet, Volume 1:

Overclocking:

The nominal operating DC power range for the processor is 0.80~1.375 volts.

The Absolute Maximum and Minimum Ratings are:

The absolute maximum (destructive) processor core voltage is 1.40 volts, so you have been warned.

I will be tweaking further so watch this space.

Thanks for letting me know, but i dont run it at that voltage 24/7, it was just to see how high i could go and remain stable.

For my 24/7 setting i'm using 1.4v @ 4.26GHz
