Cliffs of dover
Thought as much :D if you have a look in the main game folder, there should be a folder called manuals. There is a quick start guide in there, there is a helpful video on YouTube about the info windows in game.

Many thanks, I’ll start there:)

So I’ve had a good go with Blitz last night and it’s very difficult, genuinely makes MSFS2020 feel like an arcade game.

The graphics in IL-2 Dover blitz are a little, shall we say, last, last gen. I’m happy to buy one of the newer titles, can anyone tell me which version of the game has the best graphics?*

ps I know this game isn’t about the graphics but I’m just a DLGW so please humour me...

All games in the Great Battles series share ALL aspects of the game. What you buy are the aircraft/map sets and individual aircraft. There is a sale on at the moment but only for existing owners. Have a look at the aircraft set you are interested in (buy from the store to get discount codes) and choose one. https://il2sturmovik.com/store/battle-of-normandy/ Sales are happening frequently so it might be worth hanging on until Easter. Join the forum to get an idea of what it is like. https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/forum/1-il-2-sturmovik-great-battles/

If your more interested in the European theater pick up bodenplatte, if Russian front Kuban is often mentioned as having the best looking map. Although, if you're expecting it to come close to msfs you'll be disappointed.

As mentioned your paying for a map and 8 to 10 aircraft, you'll be able to use all aircraft from the game as ai, including flying Circus if taking down Fokkers with me262's is your thing.
You'll also have access to all maps online.

If you wait for the next sale you should be able to pick all the box games up for £45ish bar Normandy. Theres discount for registered accounts so you could try creating an account and waiting 24hrs.

But they are only single use codes. So pick what you want and pay all together.

Thank-you. Is Battle of Normandy ‘new’?

I think If I buy that from the devs direct It’s standalone whereas on Steam I would need BOS first?

Thankyou. Is that Steam sale or devs sale?

The codes are for you store bought game account. If you go with steam then you HAVE to buy Stalingrad first and the game codes do not apply. Normandy is early access and have only released 3 aircraft and no map.

Thanks guys. Managed to get a spitfire airborne today on a number of occasions, bouncing down a bumpy airfield at 100+ dialling in opposite rudder to counteract the torque is very different to MSFS!

Have you tried a tail dragger in MSFS? Unless you've dumbed down the realism settings you need to use rudder to counter the torque.

I have and yes you need to dial in some rudder but nothing like a spit!

I haven’t dumbed down the realism settings on MSFS and only fly props but tbh I’ve been disappointed how ‘easy it is’ the planes practically fly themselves.

Probably due to clod/box tail draggers having enough hp to tow a building. :p

The one thing about the spit in box I hate over the one in clod, its constant spinning on landing once you drop the rpm.

MSFS generally speaking has nowhere near strong enough p-factor or torque effects... I love the dynamism of the flight model personally, but so many prop aircraft you can away with almost no rudder input on take off for example. IL2 and DCS do a much better job of modelling that aspect realistically IMO.

That said, a warbird like the spit is very different to most of the aircraft you’ll find in MSFS. The lack of proper differential braking with toe brakes makes life much harder for control at slow speeds too, and for whatever reason the tail wheel wasn’t lockable either. As a result a lot rides on keeping sufficient airflow over the rudder to give directional control.

It’s a tricky beast on the ground and requires a bit of practise... there are some good guides out there though to get started with.

I thought if you linked your accounts you can buy an expansion straight from the developers and it'll appear on your steam version.
