****** Official IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad ******

just incase people are still worried about the CLOD business, ive found this on their forum:

They've also basically dropped the Clod engine entirely and are basing this on Rise of Flight, they're even telling people to download Rise of Flight if they're worried about being able to run the game. From my experience with RoF this can only be a good thing. Can't quite justify spending that much on it yet and the theatre isn't the most interesting to me, but I'll definitely pick it up when the price comes down at full release.

Just thought I'd update this for those interested.

This weeks early access session they 'switched on' the weapons for us to play with and added rudimentary AI.

I have to say it is excellent, the weapons feel like they are realistic and damage is similar to what you see on WW2 gun camera footage.

I have included a good video for you to check it out, this wasn't made by me though

Mmmm not a fan of the big red icons over the planes, hopefully they can be switched off if so desired(might leave you at a disadvantage i suppose)? How soon do the icons pop, is it similar to clod? Will there be a HC arena? Otherwise very much my dream game! Will defo be investing in this one.

nope you can switch all the object markers off for realism, I would imagine from the limited amount of Rise of Flight online that i've played that you'll get your HC arena, there is only realistic gunnery in game, no simplified version

Thanks for sharing the video Boycey. How is the performance on this compared to ROF? The Channel Battle always struggles performance wise for me (i7 2600K & Gainward 680 Phantom 4GB @ 1080p).

Appreciate it's early days but this is an enhanced engine I believe.

right well bearing in mind i've only played with 2 x ai in battle and ground units it seems fine, performance seems exactly the same to me as ROF so far. I haven't played the channel map on ROF but theres no water in BOS if that makes a difference. My specs are lower than yours too so I would imagine you'd be ok

Its early alpha now right? When can you play, i'm looking at that client and getting tempted but its an awful big spend. 75 odd quid. You can only fly now and then or can you fly offline?

so far there's only 2 aircraft, and just a few basic flight missions, no muultiplayer, most aircraft features are disabled for testing.

Also the early access is only open for two days per week at the moment, and not at all for standard members so if you buy it now you'll be waiting until sometime in the next month or so to play.

Basically if you buy it now you are paying £75 to take off and fly around a bit. If you're not happy with that i'd wait until its a bit more finished

Big flaming balls of tracer are certainly not realistic. The planes are wobbling all over the place with this update, and with the effects it all seems very arcade currently.Hopefully being alpha they will fix it, but I don't think it will be a patch on CloD with the TF4 patch.

Definitely not. Quite a few mentions of the issues at the BoS forum now.
Hopefully as its alpha the problems will be sorted, as long as the devs can see past the full on fanboiism 'best sim evah' that they get on their forum. Its only what, 35% complete, and the effects are placeholders apparently, so I'm not sure why people are getting so excited.

Very nice, cant wait for this - but will until the price drops and there is 24 hour play. Im not too worried about the flight modelling at the moment, from the vids it did sound all a bit ROF, with lots of flutter in any turns. I expect that to be continued to be worked on. Cant wait to be taking down 109s!

Looks very nice, I think I'll hold on for the full release as I have never ventured into this genre and see what it's like.

Ultra realism sounds fun, can see me coming out of the sun glint humming the battle of britan theme for days...

I have to say I have much more hope for DCS WWII.

While BoS is a beta I can't help but get the feeling my need for a hardcore SIM will not be met by BOS... We will see.

I can't agree with that at all, if you want button clicking goodness then it will satisfy that, but when it comes to having a fluid campaign, and well priced aircraft addons they fall down every time. The only reason I stopped playing A10 is because there was no sense of completion at all.

As you say, we will see, but comparing the quality of ED and the RoF teams i'm with RoF every time
