** Official ** January 2010 Transfer Thread- Rumours & Speculation in here

This.

We need someone in the Van Nistelrooy vein when he was at OT. I also think we need a really good attacking midfielder, and to offload some of the dead/dying wood in that position.

Beyond that i'm happy - yeah we lost to Liverpool and Chelsea but I still don't see massive cause for concern, defence is a bit off-form but that will return and we have plenty of cover.

How about moving Rooney back to playmaker / AM role (he would then really control everything which is what he should do and is more than capable of doing anyway) and then buy a top quality No9 to play infront of Berba (after all we are stuck with him for a while lol)

I know World Cup year isnt the time to do the above, but it really would liven up the whole team imo

I really think Lahm could arrive in Jan but we desperately need a senior / experienced goalie - even if most that are definitive quality have either ruled themselves out or signed new contracts recently

Personally think we are asking for trouble if VDS wants to retire this summer coming and we dont get anyone until then

Lots of rumours going around that 16 year old Connor Wickham at Ipswich is being trailed by the top 4. The consensus is that "he's as good as Rooney was at that age, but much bigger". The kid is 6'3" with probably another 5 years of growing...

If he leaves Ipswich for tribunal money, I'll be very disappointed. :(

who-ever gets him I hope he is loaned straight back for a couple of seasons

I was about 6ft4 at that age - Im still about 6ft4 20 years later lol (and I wouldnt say he would grow taller for another 5 years, 2-3 at most , although he could easily bulk up for years after that ;))

Can't confirm where i heard this from but supposedly Liverpool are after Eduardo for 10 mil. Rafa believes he is "the answer to Liverpool’s striking crisis"

He is playing well so far this season, and had a very good last season. But, after all the crap seasons he's had, he really needs to do more than 1 and a bit good seasons to be worth anywhere near that.

Maybe Sufc can buy him? I heard West Ham are in need of money, and we happen to have a chunk of theirs! :p

Cole hasn't had any crap seasons, he was stuck in a crap West Ham team as a lone striker with no support... ever. The difference last year was a fit and able person to play off Cole's great work. Likewise in Behrami and Collinson, a rejuvenated Parker and Noble hitting form last year there was suppost and people passing him the ball in shooting situations. He was the same player, and looked the player now every year since before Chelsea sold him, just been in weak teams that never had anyone to take advantage of his work. The few times Bellamy was fit they worked well together, likewise the few times Ashton was fit they looked great together, the problem being, neither were fit for more than a handful of games a season.

He's a great striker, Zola's simply building a good team around him thats showing what Cole can do. Utd don't need him though, they have a big guy they can knock the ball to who can bring it down, control it and play it through to someone. Utd need a RVN type, not another support striker. Now Liverpool would actually be a good move for him, but they can't afford him. Gerrard isn't fit that often, and theres no reason he can't slip back alongside the DM as he played exactly the same for so many years.

haha, another rumour from the pool forums somehow ends up in print !! however I'd sell Monster Masch in a flash to sign Bojan ;)

That was doing the rounds yesterday but Cesc instead of Masch, I'd expect much more than Toure and Bojan though so it made no sense

I wonder if Chamakh will go somewhere on the cheap in January? Fee agent in the summer, maybe Bordeaux will want to get a bit of money for him.

I'd take Toure and Bojan for Masch, can't see it happening though!

"Reds boss Rafael Benitez is lining up a £15m double raid on West Ham for centre-back Matthew Upson and left-back Herita Ilunga."

I'd take Upson for £8mil or so, don't know what he's thinking with Ilunga though, we seem to be inundated with average left-backs already!

Think they said they won't be selling him in Jan, although that means little

I'm pretty confident he'll end up at Arsenal one way or another. With RvP and Bender being injured it might force Wenger's hand a bit to get him in earlier.

Meh, I'd take him for free and £40k wages, he's not that good though (obviously he'll improve massively under Wenger)

I think he's underrated by a lot of people, he's always looked a handful when I've seen him play on TV. He's something different to what Arsenal already have and as you say, under Wenger's wing he'll always improve.

Manchester United have pulled the plug on their deal to sign Serbia's Adem Ljajic in January's transfer window.

United had agreed a combined £17million deal with Partizan Belgrade for 18-year-old attacking midfielder Ljajic and Zoran Tosic, who came to Old Trafford in the summer.

But Tosic has flopped at United and will be allowed to leave next month, while Sir Alex Ferguson decided Ljajic was not worth such a huge fee and killed the deal.

With Antonio Valencia impressing on the right for United and Gabriel Obertan able to operate on both flanks, Fergie decided he did not need more cover in the same position.

The money saved from the potential deal will free up funds for Fergie to buy a striker to complement Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen.

Wolfsburg's Edin Dzeko, rated recently by Fergie as the most in-form striker in Europe, is top of Fergie's wanted list.

The CAF is killing itself over this possible news, having said that it's probably bull

That's got to be bullcrap? I thought we'd already signed him and he was out on loan

Tosic has flopped?? In what way? He didn't get a hat trick in the 9 minutes Fergie gave him yesterday?

Tosic has hardly played, how Fergie can judge him without seeing him play in the first team? I'd have thought Fergie would have given him a chance.

iirc, we signed Ljajic < and loaned him out for two seasons? Part of the deal.

Dzeko is a good player :D
