*** Official Kinect Thread ***

Got mine yesterday.
didnt buiy any games with mine in case I didnt like it and I really regtret that now.
The free game that comes with is a a bit rubbish if I am honest.
Have played the demos that come with it though, the dance game knackered me very quickly and I am reasonably fit it was proper fun, and you got a real sense of satisfaction when you nailed the dance moves (I cannot dance to save my life heh heh) I just wish I had found the demos earlier than I did as everyone who was "testing" kinect with me didnt get to have a go on it :(.
The sport game demo is really short and I cant quite make up my mind wether or not this is just a gimmick as it isnt "technically" a game so much as a fitness trainer. It could be a more fun way to fitness train though perhaps.
The driving game did not impress me AT ALL however my best mate had a go and liked it. Whilst it wasnt exactly difficult to control it just never felt like you were fully in control of the car like you would be on a more serious driving game, I suppose this is just the wrong type of driving game for me I dont know, I just didnt click with this at all.

I have heard a Rumor that Kinect will be Dropped to £79.99 after xmas. Anyone else heard this..?

I Think it's selling to well to justify that much of a price drop. Maybe for next Christmas as the tech gets cheaper :D

I also purchased one yesterday and I'm much more of a "core" gamer, I was fairly surprised at how well it worked (as long as you have space) in all scenarios.I had my parents visiting so I had a good test of what the kinect was capable of :p I left the game and my sister jumps in an 2 seconds later she is playing just fine, then my dad jumps in and same again he can play fine.

Very easy to pick up and play but also very time consuming in menus/warnings/moving furniture and things which kind of defeats the point of the kinect at will probably put a lot of people off. Personally it doesn't bother me too much especially if you have a group of people playing as you usually just chat over the warning screens and I've never been afraid of setting up crazy gaming gear (racing wheels, drum kits and alike).

I'm not a huge fan of the games so much at the moment the same as any launch games for something of this nature, Kinect just needs a killer app :p I do believe the tech works though so lets just hope a game develop can truly harness it. I'm hoping for Police 24-7 if anyone remember that arcade cabinet? That would be awesome :D

Had a good laugh with the track and field events yesterday, particularly the running involved ones. Merely bringing my arms up in celebration before winning was enough to give me the giggles, easily pleased :)

I'm impressed with the Boxing and Table Tennis as well. Not overly fussed about Kinect Adventures at this point, would deffinitely recommend picking up another launch title if you're buying.

I follow just about all gaming forums/sites, and there are no such rumours, and this one is so ludicrous that you just have to assume it's some jaded delusional kinect hater being really silly, because the only reason you'd expect an almost immediate halving in price is if something was a complete Bomba..

And lo-and behold wheren't you telling us how you've experienced kinect and think the technology is the crappest thing every inflicted on mankind in the pre-order thread? and here you are with a 'rumour' that would imply kinect bombing to depths never seen since 20,000 leagues under the sea? Co-incidence*?

:)

* - A bit of ribbing may be implied in the above btw... :D

Hey, I'd love it if it had started out at £75.. I'd imagine they'd sell a boatload more, but I have a feeling they'll pretty much sell what they have made by Christmas, with ease, and unforunately, they seem to be following approximate legitimate market pricing, if you look at high street prices (where 'casual' people tend to spend their money)
Wii = £160 (Only 1 Wii Mote, no decent Fitness peripheral)
Wii + Wii Fit = £225 (Only 1 Wii mote)
PS3 + Move = £289 (Only get 1 wand, no Navi, no Games)
360 + Kinect = £250/£300 (Seemingly all you ever need to spend (LOL))

That's a little lower then I thought it would be..

$56 doesn't cover the R&D/Assembly/Packaging/Shipping/Marketing/Support costs, but they still have to be making a healthy profit on it..

I'm sure some people will see $56 and £129.99 and instantly think M$, but you need to look at games, they cost $1-$2 to make a DVD/Case, and they charge us £40+ (RRP)...

Also have to factor the cost of actually developing, designing and marketting the device into the final selling price.

Pretty sure I read somewhere that the marketting budget for Kinect is something like $500million? Or am I imagining things?

Hi all,

Thinking about pick one up before Xmas for the family. Just wanted some advice on the space requirements.

Our front room is arranged so that in a rectagluar room the Tv is mounted on the wall with the shortest distance to the other. Had a quick measure yesterday and looks like from the TV wall we are looking at around 6-7 foot until you hit the sofa which is against the other wall. I've read you need about 6 foot?? and also people saying you can raise it up high and look down??

Given my 40" sammy is around head height tilted down slightly do you think I could mount it above the Tv looking down into the room (about a foot lower than the ceiling?)

You need room side to side as well. I've got loads of depth from TV to sofa, but it's a corner sofa so not much side to side :( Just enough though, but 2 player is probably out of the question without sliding the side bit of sofa out of the way

When calibrating (can't remember if in a game or dash) you can choose to stand closer to the tv but says it's better to stand further back - it's split into 2 zones.

ok so I can trade a bit of quality for the space I have I guess - plenty of room side to side just depth issue at home. didnt want to get it home and find it just doesnt work at all with the space we have

another quickie - does the kinect come with anything bar a stand to sit on?

It's just a small flat base that's part of the sensor, you can buy a 'wall mount' for it, about £20 I believe..

Space wise, for 2 players you really need 8ft+ from the sensor to get right to the back of the play space in theory, 6-7ft you can probably get in the front half of the 'best' section in Adventures, but if you needed to move back for some reason, you'd probably run out of room.

I've now mounted mine on a shelf up/behind the TV (It's in a corner), and it seems to work better in my space then when I had it lower down (2ft) in front of the TV..

You deffinitely need a lot of room for it, for some games like bowling and maybe boxing just space in front, maybe 6-8ft I would say. But for other games, like the rafting in Adventures, or football you probably need a good 4-6ft width as well.

I thought i'd have plenty of room, as our front room is shaped pretty good for this type of thing, and I even felt a little restricted. 2 player is a deffinite no go at this stage.

I would upload my track and field video as it's hilarious, but way to much man boob... so have some Foot Ball instead!

I may be wrong, but from that video it looks like you have the Kinect sensor in front of you and your TV to one side- does that have any impact on how you play at all?
