*** Official Kodi (née XBMC) Thread ***

Finally decided to do a fresh install of the new XBMC & Aeon Nox last night. Thank god they added a get artwork button on the left menu instead of having to go through every single movie and file to get the logos etc back. I really wasn't looking forward to it until i saw that.

PVR still sucks on it unfortunately.

I tried to get Frodo up and running on my N40L just to run as a server and manage the library but it won't start due to what looks like a dx9 error as the gui won't launch. Do you have a more advanced gfx card in your server or just the standard on board?

How are you accessing the server? Direct on the console, via VNC/TeamViewer, or via RDP?

It'll only run if you're not in RDP mode.

What OS? Have you gone into the display properties and set the hardware acceleration to Max? (On my WHS box, it was set quite low)

Anyone standardizing on Frodo ?

My windows machine are all now on the Frodo stable branch but the linux server is still on master @ a couple of commits ahead.

I feel like I should drop to stable but this will mean rolling back some libraries with the potential of breakage.

I've got all of mine on Frodo release currently - I upgraded them all from RC3 just minutes after the installer .exe was available on the download page.

Next on my agenda is to take a look at Live TV, our Virgin package is coming up for renewal soon, and we just don't use the V+ box as much as we did, so I'll throw my TV tuner into the server and use that to record stuff that is usually recorded on the Virgin box - usually the reality shows like Strictly, X-Factor, I'm A Celeb that the missus watches.

Yep I've still got to get my usb dvb-t stick on my to-do list too.

******* thing doesn't like linux the last time I tried it. The aim of the game is to stream the TV from an android device :D It's possible as someone has shown it working on the lackluster Raspberry

Will downgrade to stable and switch between it and xbmc-master with a mirrored database... If anyone wants my build script for xbmc here it is

Code:
root@media:~/bin# cat build.xbmc
#!/bin/sh

# Don't forget to edit vi /usr/share/xsessions/XBMC.desktop

date
cd /disks/disk1/_scratch/xbmc/xbmc
make clean 2>&1 > /dev/null
make distclean 2>&1 > /dev/null
git reset --hard 2>&1 > /dev/null
git clean -xfd 2>&1 > /dev/null
git pull
make clean
make distclean
#PATH=$HOME/distcc:$PATH

./bootstrap ; date; ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/xbmc-git ; date; make -j2
make install
date
exit

#./bootstrap
#./configure --prefix=/usr/local/xbmc-git
#./configure --prefix=/usr/local/xbmc-git --enable-vdpau --disable-pulse --disable-crystalhd --disable-avahi --disable-afpclient

#make distclean
#git reset --hard
#git clean -xfd
#git pull
#./configure --prefix=/usr --enable-vdpau --disable-pulse --disable-crystalhd --disable-debug --disable-avahi --disable-airplay --disable-airtunes --disable-afpclient

I ran XBMC on my n40l over RDP with no issues. It doesn't have any extra hardware for graphics. Was connected to it using my laptop over wireless. Running Windows Server 2012 standard if that helps.

Is anyone running Aeon Nox 4 skin and using cdart? I've scanned all my music but can't get it to display when playing music. The spinning cd art shows fine but no the extra fanart. This worked fine on my Eden build so I must be missing an option somewhere that I haven't switched on.

I am having a few movies that doesn't show up in XBMC library, updated it endless times, removed the path to the folder and re-added again, still no luck. Anyone got any clues?

The names is correct, it is in a folder like the rest of the movie structure but a handful just refuse to show up! :(

i plan to setup a htpc at my parents for them to view films from my server.

i have two pieces of hardware i am debating on giving them.
  1. ras pi
  2. zotac ion nettop

the plan is to use xmbc or openelec.

my question is all the films are hosted on my server(freenas) at my house and i know xmbc supports smb,nfs , but they have a separate network, how do i get them to access my shares and stream the content.

does xmbc also support ftp:// streaming or will i have to setup a vpn for them to access my content.

I had this a few days ago with a few tv eps and I swear I was nearly pulling my hair out. Files that don't scrape correctly (for whatever reason) should show in FILE MODE. Anyway, I found a solution that worked for me and hopefully it'll work for you:

What I did was go to VIDEOS >> FILES >> MOVIES (or whatever sub category your movies are in)

Can you see the movie there? If so, go to info and refresh it and hopefully it'll now show.

That's how I got it working anyway.

I love you ! got all of them showing now except 50/50...may be it is that / symbol or something but it's not playing ball but the rest is fine :)

This is a fairly simple guide for new users on how to name files correctly.

Firstly make sure your Folders are organised correctly.
Each folder has a separate show, and then each season has a separate season subfolder.

TV Shows > Family Guy >
Season 1
Season 2
Season 3
Season 4

The Simpsons >
Season 1
Season 2
Season 3
Season 4

Download http://www.therenamer.com/TheRenamer. It has two options available, one for films and the other for TV Shows. Then make sure it's picking information from TheTVDB.

All you need to do is drag and drop the folder to the program and it'll automatically name it.

If for some reason it's incorrect then go to TheTVDB site and search for the program you want.

A good example is the old Batman cartoon from the 90s. Just naming it Batman is incorrect, search the site for just Batman and you'll see what I mean.

On TheRenamer you can make it manually rename the show in question by using theTVDB code.
For the 90s Batman cartoon this is the link:
http://www.thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=76168&lid=7

The bold section is the code relevant to the show, so just type that in the manual box (on the bottom left from memory) and it should work.

Finally if you're shows are so poorly named that the numbering won’t work then change the files to this

S0x.Exx

Once you've done that drag it to TheRenamer let it do its job.

Hopefully this will make sense for everyone and more importantly help

Is there anything you can do to improve network performance? My content is stored on my PC upstairs - wireless connection is OK (2 bars but anything from 700k/sec - 2Mb/sec when downloading on the internet). Videos play fine down stairs (Raspberry Pi plugged into the router through Ethernet) but after a while they all start buffering.

Sack off wireless and get some homeplugs.

Am on homeplugs at the moment, don't go cheap though as I am on a new pair as the old ones have died. I have the solwise 500mbps passthrough so I can plug other things into the sockets. My 1080p movies do not buffer. Although am using Serviio on my n40L server and my LG home theatre in the bedroom.
