This is a fairly simple guide for new users on how to name files correctly.
Firstly make sure your Folders are organised correctly.
Each folder has a separate show, and then each season has a separate season subfolder.
TV Shows > Family Guy >
Season 1
Season 2
Season 3
Season 4
The Simpsons >
Season 1
Season 2
Season 3
Season 4
Download http://www.therenamer.com/TheRenamer. It has two options available, one for films and the other for TV Shows. Then make sure it's picking information from TheTVDB.
All you need to do is drag and drop the folder to the program and it'll automatically name it.
If for some reason it's incorrect then go to TheTVDB site and search for the program you want.
A good example is the old Batman cartoon from the 90s. Just naming it Batman is incorrect, search the site for just Batman and you'll see what I mean.
On TheRenamer you can make it manually rename the show in question by using theTVDB code.
For the 90s Batman cartoon this is the link:
http://www.thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=76168&lid=7
The bold section is the code relevant to the show, so just type that in the manual box (on the bottom left from memory) and it should work.
Finally if you're shows are so poorly named that the numbering won’t work then change the files to this
S0x.Exx
Once you've done that drag it to TheRenamer let it do its job.
Hopefully this will make sense for everyone and more importantly help
While this is a must when setting up XBMC etc, it's worth to note that not all files... whether it be a movie or tv episode are recognised by XBMC.
Files that don't scrape correctly (for whatever reason) should show in FILE MODE. Anyway, I found a solution that worked for me and Raymond Lin (a few posts back) and hopefully it'll work for you:
when a file doesn't show, go to VIDEOS >> FILES >> MOVIES (or whatever sub category your movies are in)
Can you see the movie/tv ep etc there? If so, go to file info by hitting I when on the file and refresh it and hopefully it'll now show.
That's how I got it working anyway.
