Technical audio question: now that Frodo is out and the new audio engine is implemented, can XBMC on Windows decode DTSHD-MA and DD TruHD to LPCM on the fly, retaining bit perfect lossless all-channel HD audio?

I've tried to convert my files to LPCM before playing but that relies on having a DTS decoder in software. Plus I'd like to just rip and not do much else converting.....

My receiver only supports LPCM (and lossy codecs) but not HD codecs.

It must do, I have mkv's with the HD sound ripped intact and they playback just fine on my Arcam AVR280 which doesnt support the new HD sound decoding.

Anybody had any playback issues with Frodo? I have a Panasonic 50" plasma and have video set to 24fps in XBMC. I find if I ff or rev an mkv when going back to playback the video stutters and I have to stop and restart the video to cure?

Im using it with a 50" Panny plasma as well with no issues. Have you got it so screen refresh rate is set to match the film you are playing?

If it's DTSHD-MA, then one of the advantages is that the standard DTS 1.5Mbps 'core' part can be played fine on legacy equipment- so it may not be converting these audio tracks to anything. If your MKVs have only a TruHD track then maybe it is doing something, which is good, but again if you are hearing it on your AVR280 it will be standard Dolby Digital only. This was the reason I moved from my AVR350, to get HD audio.

Most people with HD-capable audio receivers don't have my problem :(

Cheers.

Sorry to go off topic but what did you move to from your AVR350. Ive demo'd a number of amps around the 1-1.5k range that support the HD audio and none of them sound better then what I have, some a fair bit worse. It seems these days with all the upscaling gubbins that modern amps have to do (that I dont want or need), its less money to spend on the audio components.

I figured id just have to keep what I have until I can save up and get something like the AVR600.

Thought I'd add some screenshots of my setup, its fairly simple but needs to be to let the wife/kiddies use it :)

I will setup some profiles at a later date when I put it across the house, but right now, can't be bothered :)

As mentioned earlier, running a mysql database on my ReadyNAS meaning I can share across the house without having my main htpc on :)

All in all very happy with how it is working having come from a well established media browser setup. Missing a couple of things (sort by date being one), but otherwise couldnt be happier :)

Please tell me how i get my movie section etc to look like this?

Certain theme and widgets? Very new to xbmc. Thanks.

I moved to 2nd hand stuff: an Audiolab 8000AP, and a Bryston 9B SST. I wanted to move away from receivers and so got the Bryston first.

I suppose the AVR360 or AVR500 are next to look at? Alternatively (my backup plan) is to get an Oppo 95/105 and go multichannel analogue into your AVR350s multich-in.

A question for the Aeon Nox guys. I've found that when watching a movie/tv show and double clicking to come out. It still continues to play the file in the background. Unless i bring up the menu and press stop.

With the confluence skin, exiting the menu also seems to stop the file playing.

Is there a way to turn this off?

Whoops, i just use the XBMC Commander app on my phone. I think its the equivalent of the back button.

Maybe its just the way the skin is designed then. I'm sure the normal skin effectively stops the video when you come out of it.

Just bought myself a Logitech Dinovo Mini. Interested to see how that works :)

Yep mine does the same - I've mapped one of my buttons on my harmony one to switch to fullscreen - that gets back into it. My old Mediabrowser setup didn't do this, but you get used to pausing before doing anything quite quickly.

Finally got round to sorting out the rest of the controls from my harmony one, so I can window/fullscreen xbmc (useful for any resolution problems on wake), launch xbmc directly from windows, shortcuts to my 5 main playlists (movies, kids movies, tv, kids tv, comedy) as well as a home screen shortcut, subtitle toggle, OSD and powermenu. :)
