*** Official Kodi (née XBMC) Thread ***

Was searching for the right way to name files for your library for scrapers and noticed their wiki page seems to have gone? I tried 2 browsers and nothing

For tv shows I use
root folder , <series name as listed on tvdb>, subfolders Specials, Season 1, and so forth, episodes are labelled s1e1.mkv, s1e2.mkv for season 1 etc, for season 2 s2ex, season 3 s3ex etc, specials are s0ex
you dont necessarily need to create the subfolders but its easier to manage

Is the v3 pi box good enough to run Kodi, would like to take advantage of the built in wifi really ..

Hate cables everywhere

I assume you mean the pi3? Then yes, it'll run Kodi.

I've found wifi to be unreliable for streaming though -- random dropouts -- so I use a couple of powerline adapters.

Is the Pi 3 to stream your own media over your network? If so I'd suggest hard wiring it if possible and putting OpenELEC on it. Its a slimmed down OS purely just to be used for Kodi. The Pi 3 only has 1GB of RAM which isn't a lot compared to rival products and the CPU isn't particularly great. However if you're just using it for Netflix or Prime streaming then it should suffice.

I'm currently running Kodi on my Raspberry Pi 3 with no issues whatsoever - I'm still playing around with it, but I'm actually running Plex through Kodi at the moment. The interface is beautiful, and it's made it super easy. As above though, I highly recommend connecting it by Ethernet to your network for the best possible performance. It tends to give me problems streaming 1080p media from my computer over WiFi (Even though the homeplug is in the same room).

I've just installed the latest Kodi on one of my Fire TVs and I'm having a problem that isn't happening on my other 2 Fire TVs on Kodi 16 or my tablet, phone & PC also loaded with Kodi 16.

Basically I have 3 folders I keep my videos in - Documentary, Films & TV.
I can access all 3 folders and play videos with my other Kodi 16 loaded devices.
On this new Kodi 17 build I can only play videos from my Documentary folder and I get the dreaded 'Failed To Play' in the other folders!

Any ideas what's going on?

Are you using Kodi with a SQL server?

Did it ask for any passwords? Maybe delete (rename maybe so it's still all there if it still doesn't work) the userdata folder on the Kodi 17 install and start from scratch?

I've turned off asking for passwords on my PC.
If I put the TV and Film folder in the K Documentary folder the videos will not play!
If I put the video files into the Documentary folder they will play!
So there is something about the names K TV and K Films that KODI 17 doesn't like.

Fixed.
I copied the working folder called K Documentary, called it TV and moved the video files from my K TV into it - it worked!
I deleted the original folder and renamed the new TV to K TV - it worked.
I did this with the other 3 non working folders.

Obviously the Permissions for the Documentary folder must have been different than the other 3 but I went over every parameter several times side by side!
And like I said they worked on my other devices loaded with Kodi 16.
