*** Official Kodi (née XBMC) Thread ***

Whoops, i just use the XBMC Commander app on my phone. I think its the equivalent of the back button.

Maybe its just the way the skin is designed then. I'm sure the normal skin effectively stops the video when you come out of it.

Just bought myself a Logitech Dinovo Mini. Interested to see how that works :)

Ohh please post how it works out for you, I'm also tempted to get one in the future.

Daft question time, just started messing about with xmbc on my laptop with a view of building a htpc at some point. Trying to use advanced launcher but it can't detect the C: partition when i try to find a program. Does it currently not work with Frodo?

Edit: scrap that played a bit more n sorted it

It seems alright so far, think its a fault with the dinovo but the down arrow doesn't work great. If you're interested in trying one i've somehow bought 2 and would be happy to loan you one to try out :)

Need to work on mapping keys now, many buttons seem to do the same by default. Also i found a time my htpc went to sleep and it lost connection to the Dinovo. Unplugged the usb receiver and plugging it back in sorted that though.

Think it'll be great for general windows use though.

What is the correct file structure for music?

Mine is

iTunes Music - Artist name - Album name

But in XBMC isn't pretty like this photo above.

musicun.jpg

Music is more dependant on the ID3 tags than the file/folder structure so can throw up some odd issues.

I've got my music organised in an artist > Album structure, but luckily had already sorted out the tags for Google Music, so it wasn't an issue - I used mediamonkey and musicbrainz picard for that :)

That background is the Live CD background that picks up random album covers - there is a DVD version as well :)

It would but tbh running a windows 7 64 on a single core cpu in this day and age is not really worth it

Build it then see what have you got to lose if you already have the parts.

Yeah will give it a try. if its not that good got a spare sniper 2 board.
will get a cheap 1155 dual core cpu. ;)

Just a quick question about the sources.xml file in the first post.

Do I add the pathversion as:

smb://192.168.xxx.xxx/movies

or

smb://zom-server/movies

Does it make any difference if I use the IP or hostname?

Just want to get everything sorted before I attempt to set up my server tomorrow.

I've used hostname, but I'm only running Windows so far, which likes DNS names - Android doesn't seem to like local DNS names - so that will be a consideration - if you're looking for adding Android devices, you might want to use IP addresses.

I'm just using windows and atv2 (ios).

Do I still have to places the same sources xml in each machine? Just read this on the XBMC Wiki and it's confused me even more:

" If you want to update the library from any of the XBMC devices then they must all have the same sources set. See the Sources section of Part 6 for one method of keeping them in sync."

I'll only be updating the library on my main htpc as it's the fastest. If I do that does it mean that the others will then show the changes I've made?

I'd copy them across anyway - it won't hurt.

But, even if you don't, then the library changes will be reflected, as it's only looking at the SQL database.

Question on stand up.

How to people sort this? I dont really want it in my movie folder, and theTVDB wont scrape them, wondering how I should go about this.

Ive set my server up after months of messing about, copying over 2tb of data is taking soem time!

Well xbmc picks them up as movies, so when I added the source they were set as movies. As I wanted movies/kids movies separate anyway it was much the same process - I made a smart playlist to only include files that started with the path /TV/Comedy - then linked to that from my homescreen after disabling the main movie library link :)

Not perfect, but does the job :) - I also had to separate out the dvd's from within subfolders because of the scraper i.e. not as I had it /Bill Bailey/part troll etc. instead /Bill Bailey - Part troll/ etc.

Interesting StooM, i was wondering the best way to split out 3D movies in XBMC and this might be it.

Out of interest how does your main Movies folder then work? Does it still include the standup or is there a way to exclude it from there since its referenced elsewhere?

The main movie folder has everything (movies/kids/comedy) in it - as does the latest added shortcuts etc.

As I disabled the main movie shortcut though, it doesn't get used - I had to use one of the custom links in the homescreen editor for Aeon Nox to make it after disabling the standard movie link)..

If you also specify the smart playlist to sort by date added, you will be able to sort by that when linking to it - I like to have my movies showing by latest first.

I guess the way to do it for 3d would be to put them all in a different folder (i.e. Movies/3d/[movie title]) then do a playlist where the path starts Movies/3d/

Which version of XBMC do you guys run on your HTPC? I have built a new 1 and I am thinking of putting ubuntu on it and running XBMC on that. The HTPC will only be used for XBMC for now. I am not against Windows but the Windows updates are putting me off it a little bit.

I have the SQL database set up already on a HP N40L and have XBMC commander on my iPhone and iPad in readiness. Looking forward to getting it all running this weekend.

I like my HTPC to work as a PC - so I've got Windows 8 on it. This means I can run stuff like Steam for games.

And I'm running Frodo, mainly because of the automated synchronisation of fanart.
