Playback stuttering.

Now I have my NAS etc setup I've just switched to a MySQL database setup.

Videos playing through VLC on my main pc or my Galaxy S2 with XBMC streaming over wifi will play fine.

Through XBMC on the main PC its a completely different matter. Jerky playback of 1-2fps at the most. Read speeds from NAS to PC of 60mbp/s over Gibabit ethernet.

So why is XBMC on my PC so terrible?

Problem solved. Decided as I was half way through the last post to delete the appdata/roaming/xbmc folder, deleted that opened XBMC to recreate the folder structure, closed it and copied my advancedsettings.xml over and no more stuttering? Must have been something from the old setup causing problems

I am looking at trying to set this up in my house can anyone advise,
at the moment I have a htpc (unused hiding behind my telly) I'm going to put xbmc on it shortly.
I currently have it installed on my home office pc for tunes and the odd tv episode
all my files are currently on a nas but I was wondering if i set up the htpc whether it would be better to have a big hdd in that for all the files and then share them over the network? happy to leave the nas, just worried about running out of room...
I would also like to set up some smaller devices around the house for audio only, have looked a bit at the raspberry pi's but although they are cheap(ish) i wonder if there are any other devices that could do it better? having seen that there is an android version now, maybe it would be better in the long run to find an android device?
I'm looking to control everything from my tablet/phone so have yaste already installed which seems pretty good, the only other thing I would love is if there was a way to watch flash sports streams as they are a nightmare on the tablet with bloody popups!

I'm new this this but from the sounds of things, this looks ideal for having all my TV shows/Movies easily accessible on the TV. Is there a link/guide to how to get started? I saw your post Raymond running Quartz skin and it looks lovely. I don't have a PC so I guess I'll be connecting an external UBS HDD to the Rasberry Pi?

Volume buttons on OSX devices once again control OSX volume, rather than XBMC volume
Player optimization on the Raspberry Pi, including more efficient playback, better subtitle support, and many crash fixes
iOS 6 support on the AppleTV 2.
XBMC does not crash when listed on the AppleTV top shelf
Added support for additional Xbox 360 controller types

Only just started using XBMC. Wow, loving it! Currently using the Aeon Nox skin; any other great looking ones to try out?

I think I know the answer to this question.. I want my TV shows to play the next video automatically, but don't want my films to have the same behaviour, is there is a tweak that I can apply to my settings that will prevent movies from doing this? Or do I need to put all my movies into their own seperate folder?

Currently I've got my TV shows all laid out nicely into their own sorted folders. My Movies are all in one big folder.

Movie 1 (1995)
Movie 2 (2002)
etc

I'm guessing the work around is to give each movie it's own folder; but I'd rather not do that as it will look messy

For TV shows, you should have an option in the context menu (C by default) for play from here:

You can either do this at the show, season or episode level :)

As for movies, I'm not sure how the scraper would handle having them all in the one folder as I have them separated in their own, but I do recall some options regarding folders etc in the scraper somewhere (its been a while)

There's Ace which has just been released, seems fairly quick plus feature rich - I'll be giving it a try over the next few days when I get a chance.
