*** Official Kodi (née XBMC) Thread ***

Just out of interest, how are people organizing their video libraries?

TV shows aren't much of an issue as they are a standard:

TV Show
- Season *
- Episode *

Movies, however I have in one list so it makes it tricky and cumbersome to view them all (if you dont know what you want to watch for example).

I have got sub sections for Genre/Latest etc which help, but just wanted to see what others are doing to get some ideas.

I was wondering about this also. All it really does is list them alphabetically. I'd like the option of perhaps categorising them so it's a bit easier to sift through them.

How did you add sub-sections for Genre?

It does it automatically when it scrapes the movie unless I am not understanding. In XBMC when you hover on "movies" there are submenus "Recently Added", "Genres" etc.

If you're using a remote then press down when on the main menu with movies or tv shows highlighted. The sub menu will let you browse by genre, actor, director etc.

A quick question whilst I wade through this thread if I may :)

I'm happy with how my movies section works now. I'm using 'Showcase' to display my films and have the film info (Director, genre, plot etc.) showing above the cases. For some reason every film displays the Django Unchained artwork (4 pics in each corner, info in the middle). How can I resolve this? I've tried using the 'Get Artwork' function along with Updating the library again, it just doesn't seem to want to know. Also, it's created 2 extra folders (extrafanart and extrathumbs). Can I hide these?

Thanks for your help guys. Sloooowly getting this set up but it's taking a lot of tweaking! Between that and ripping discs and creating stubs it's taking up more time than I thought! Love it!

Cheers
David

Which skin? Are all your films in one big folder? It's best to have each film in it's own folder with the same name, that helps to stop the artwork getting mixed up but different skins handle artwork in different ways.

Sorry, should have mentioned I'm using the Aeon Nox skin. I have the Universal Movie scraper installed.

My movies are in one big folder. I've just read on page 16 that it's best to have each movie in their own folder, as you've just stated. I'll give this a try. It's worked OK up until now with some layouts but Showcase doesn't seem to be one of them.

Thanks, I'll give this a go tonight. Luckily I only have 10 or so movies on there.

So for example \Videos\Movies\Kill Bill Vol.2\Kill Bill Vol.2 (year).mkv ?

That's how I have mine set up and all my artwork is fine. I also scrape everything in Mefdia Companion before adding to XBMC.

Same - this seems to work well

I've got my submenu's setup (as I've disabled the main link on the homescreen) as:

Movies - Shows all movies in smart playlist, currently ordered by date added
Kids Movies - same as above
Recent
Random - although this doesnt show up - something to do with a random script I gather
Genres
Movie Sets

Thanks. I'll sort them out.

Sorry for what might seem like a dense question, but what is Media Companion? Is this another add-on or a separate program?

Again, I do something similar, I run them through media centre master to get the files renamed (not really necessary, but nice to keep organised) - its a seperate program :)

Just ordered a 2TB hdd. There's gonna be some serious ripping/converting/coffee drinking done tonight :)

It doesnt take long to fill, trust me! Ive got 400 gig left on each of my 2TB drives, one for films and one for series.

Looking at getting a licence for unraid and adding another disk after a matter of months. at least once I am done it will slow right down! 3/4 of the way through my DVD collection.

Well sorted my issues out. For some silly reason the "play theme music in background" option, as far as I can see isn't in aeon nox 4.0 so you have to go to confluence, enable it, and then go back to aeon nox and hey presto it works. For some reason along the way it had turned the volume down to -46dba so audio on .mp4 etc wouldn't work but .mkv would as I assume its just passing through. Also got all the episodes to my shows in 1 nice directory by choosing flatten all always on TV episodes... :) if I could only fix why audio/aspect ratio goes incorrect when my amp switches to another source or off I would be very happy.

Actually... Is there a way to remove the ... At the top of a directory? I know I would have to rely on the back button rather than choosing that to go to previous directory but it would look nicer and the music would start playing straight off.

I can imagine.

I'd like to know the answer to this too, it's purely an aesthetic thing but it does sorta ruin the fluid looks. Even being able to change the icon would be nice.
