*** Official Kodi (née XBMC) Thread ***

Guys I have a bit of an issue with my library, I'm sure it's easily solvable but last night I just didn't have mental capacity to try and figure it out. I'd had a long day :(

I've created a new folder with all of my media in. This is located at C:\Media

I have created two Sources in XBMC (Aeon Nox):

- C:\Media\TV Shows
- C:\Media\Movies

I did this because as and when I get the 2TB drive installed I can just pick up and dump the Media folder over to it, with hopefully little to no hassle.

Each movies is now in it's own folder, for example:

C:\Media\Movies\Kill Bill Vol 1\Kill Bill Vol 1.mkv

So I set the sources up in 'Videos' and set the Universal Movie Scraper for my movies, and the TV Show scraper (can't remember the exact name) for TV Shows.

Movies appear fine and their respective artwork (CD image, title image, case etc.) is downloaded. TV Shows (the few Simpsons episodes I ripped to test) also appear fine.

The problem is when I click to play the movie or TV Show, I'm taking into what seems like another folder which displays the .mkv file (or whatever other format) and two extra folders, 'extrafanart' and 'extrathumbs'.

This has only started happening since I put the movies into their own folders. I'm sure it's just a setting I need to tweak but unsure on what one.

Grateful for someone's help with this. Whilst it's fun setting it all up it can be frustrating sometimes!

Cheers

David

Yeh if I've understood you right, there's is a setting which determines what happens when you click on a movie/tv episode, mine goes to info so I can see the full plot etc, but you can select it to play straight away or another option or two.

@Chump....Are you trying to play the movie or TV show whilst browsing them through the "Video" menu...? If so that will be your problem as you should browse through the "TV Show" menu for TV episodes and through "Movies" for films - from the scrolling banner on the home screen.
I created another playlist called "3D Movies" and then added that as a favourite, which will then list all my 3D movies when I click on that, from the Home Screen.
The "Video" is just for adding sources etc.

FWIW I have 10TB of storage for both movies (3D and 2D) and TV shows. I have it split into three types of folders...
Movies 1, 2 and 3 split over the drives for just movies. No subfolders created for each movie.
3D Movies - as it suggests. No subfolders created nor needed.
TV 1 and TV 2 containing subfolders of the TV shows titles and episodes with names like "tvshow S01 E01".

Thanks for the reply.

I used the 'Videos' menu to add the sources. When I browse using 'Movies' it displays the movies and then takes me into the movie folder when I select one. Very strange.

Actually... Is there a way to remove the ... At the top of a directory? I know I would have to rely on the back button rather than choosing that to go to previous directory but it would look nicer and the music would start playing straight off.
I think this is what you are after?

Under:
Settings>Appearance>FileLists
Deselect:
Show parent folder items

Will give it a try.. :)

On another note... YES another one.. :p what does Kiosk mode in Aeon Nox do?

I believe, and someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but Kiosk mode is a method by which you can set the interface up so that nobody can mess up your files or videos (deleting sources etc).

It's just a restricted version of the same interface.

Actually, on that note, I noticed there were options in the menus for logins and passwords. I'd love to get this set up for individual users. The boys have very different tastes when it comes to movies and if I could tailor their XBMC experiences that would be great.

Need to sort out this library issue first though and get all my films on there!

Do yourself a favour - otherwise it will be a matter of just copying over what is already written on the Wiki, have a read here...

http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=Profiles

also have a read at the Wiki in general to familiarise yourself with what can be done in general with XBMC.
There are some points more specific to certain plugins or skins, but help for those can be found in their respective forums section.

Good luck :)

Thanks, I wasn't going to tackle setting up the profiles just yet, was going to leave that until last! It was just good to know I could set something like that up if need be.

Thanks for the link.

I notice there's and XBMC thread and no mediaportal one.

Is XBMC better?

There's not much between them. I have used them both, and think they are both really good. They share a lot of features. I think the key differences are:

XBMC is better if you
* want a wide range of user-created add-ins (MP has good ones too, but nothing like the range available on XBMC)
* Want total control of the presentation of your media via smart playlists (i.e. set up several different sets of favourite tv shows or movies)
* Need multi-user support, where each user can have their own completely separate library of media, and separate watched status for each show. (This is the deciding factor for me.)
* want to be able to start watching a show on one device, pause or stop it, go into another room, and resume it on another device. (This is an advanced feature, really a hack, and is a bit fiddly to setup.)
* Want to access all your media on android (the app isn't mature yet, there are usability limitations; plex is a bit more mature for this kind of thing, but xbmc is getting there)

MediaPortal is better if you
* Need stable live TV/TV recording. XBMC has support in some builds for a wider range of broadcast tv backends than mediaportal, but it's a very recent feature, and is very immature compared to mediaportal.
* want the default operation to be, when you click on a tv series, it starts playing the first unwatched episode. (No idea why xbmc doesn't do this.)

Starting to wonder whether XBMC is as good as i thought. Watching TV on another input via the Virgin box has higher definition than anything i'm playing from libraries though XBMC, even bluray ISO files.

I'm not seeing the crispness i do from just watching TV.
